From the Principal

So long, farewell auf wiedersehen, adieu

Adieu, adieu, to you and you and you.

Well not yet!

This time next year I will be doing all of the “last” things and the farewell events, and the tears will flow.

Some of you have asked why I am leaving and what I am going to do. Well, I believe that it’s time for me to step down to part time; to do some leadership mentoring; to train young teachers at University; to spend more time involved in mission and ministry; and to give someone else the chance to lead Charlton and our extended community.

But until then, it’s full steam ahead, Charlton.

We are currently looking at providing some new opportunities for our students.

1. We are in discussions about a Years 7 and 8 Gifted and Talented class. Mr Hannam is keen to provide some new ways of thinking and learning to some of our smart young people who score high on our Gifted and Talented Scale.

2. We are looking at ways of providing some practical courses in Automotive, Construction, Electrical, Sports Coaching/Sport and Recreation, Entertainment Industry and

possibly Childcare. These commence for Year 11 next year as well as for Year 10 in the future and will involve partnerships with other Christian schools in our area.

3. Years 9/10 will be commencing a special Program next year which will help to prepare students for life outside of school. They will be learning practical skills such as car maintenance and basic homemaking as well as hiking. Building resilience is one of the aims of this program.

All of these, together with our accent on achieving personal best and helping students to set attainment goals, will ensure they are well prepared for the future.

Charlton Christian College wants to keep moving forward with whoever is in leadership. We have a wonderful team who work together closely for the greater good of you and your children. We offer a holistic education with real purpose in a peaceful and settled community.

I’m very excited about the future.

Sue

PS - Domestic Violence is not OK. I talked to Middle School this week about my experience with abuse in my marriage. Please ensure that you or anyone you know who experiences any kind of abuse, stands courageously to say no and to put a stop to it!

PRAYER POINTS • Praise God for the great time our Year 11/12 students

and Senior Staff had at Senior Camp this week.

• Pray for the Board and for Sue as they plan for the future leadership transition.

• Continue to pray for staff and families who are doing it tough or are not well at the moment.

• Continue to pray for new enrolments.

DO YOU HAVE A PRAYER REQUEST?Would you like someone to pray for you, your family or a friend? Would you like someone to stand with you in faith to believe for a breakthrough?

Email our chaplain, Matt Stackhouse: [email protected] or phone (02) 4959 9111.

I write these things to you who believe on the name of the Son of God so that you may know you have eternal life.

Verse for the Week: 1 John 5:13

FROM THE CHAPLAIN

Interesting! ‘You may KNOW that you have eternal life.’ To that some say ‘outrageous, how presumptuous’. But the Bible says we can know if we have eternal life. How can this be? We can only know this if our salvation rests in Jesus and what He has done on the cross, and not in our own performance.

If it depends on me, then on a good day I’m saved and on a bad day, I don’t really know. But if it depends on what Jesus has done for me, then I can know. How do we know we really believe? Is it responding to an altar call? Praying a prayer? Going to church? Is it performing certain rituals? No, it is about faith and trust in Jesus, and evidence of that is a changed life. God makes a change in people who follow Him. Remember that Jesus knows those who are His – YOU can be sure of eternal life. Start by doing as the New Testament says, ‘examine yourself to see if you are in the faith’. Examine your life, your beliefs, what is important to you, what fruit God is producing in your life and make things right where you know you need to.

YEAR 5/6 EXCURSION TO SYDNEYTuesday 3rd November, 2015

Last week, Year 5/6 went to the Sydney Maritime Museum and the Big Dig archaeological site at the Rocks.

When we arrived we were greeted by two ladies from the Maritime Museum and they explained to us what we were going to do. We spent some time at the Shackleton Exhibition and then we did some archaeological digging and learnt about the convict houses at the Rocks.

The James Craig:

Once we had separated into two groups, we were able to actually go on board the James Craig. At first we went downstairs. As we went down, the first thing we spotted were some elevated tables where the sailors ate and talked.

It was a really good day and I will remember it for a long time.

Year 10 Completion DinnerToronto Yacht Club - Thursday 29th October

Are you or members of your family on a restricted diet?

Year 11 and 12 students had an amazing time at Senior Camp these past few days. Watch this space for camp pics in the next newsletter and keep an eye out on our Charlton Facebook Page over the weekend for a sneak peak.

All students who had completed Year 10 at Charlton this year, were invited to attend a completion dinner provided by the College.

It was a wonderful time of celebrating all that has been achieved. We now welcome these students into Year 11 and 12 and look forward to seeing all they become.

Watch this space... Many of us struggle with diet restrictions these days, such as coeliac disease or lactose intolerance.

If that’s you or someone you know, check out pages two and three of this magazine for some great info and ideas!

It’s Christmas Hamper time!Once again the College PA are partnering with local charities to provide a little extra Christmas cheer to local families in need. We are collecting non- perishable goods to put together to make up Christmas hampers. All donations will be gratefully received but to get things started I have included a few ideas.

Please send items in to the classroom or office. These hampers are always so gratefully received by local families and it’s a wonderful way for Charlton to share our blessings with the wider community. Many thanks, in anticipation of your generosity.

2016 Tuition Fees including Sibling Discounts

Our stocks of Charlton Sportswear have been reduced during the year as some students have not returned them back to the College after wearing them for sporting events and gala days. Could you kindly have a look in your child’s bedroom or school bag in case there is any sports gear with the Charlton logo on them (i.e. red Charlton swimming rash shirts, Charlton netball dresses, Charlton soccer shirts etc).

We may have to implement a ‘bond’ in the future to ensure that our sports gear is returned after each event. As you would understand there is a cost to continually replace these.

Thanks.

Mr Warren and Mr Lalor, Sports Coordinators

CAMERON PARK BUS ROUTE - REVISED TIMES FOR 2016

CONGRATULATIONSYear 11 student, Dylan Stipack - One of Oceania’s best!

Year 11 student Dylan Stipack recently competed at the Oceania Freestyle Championships. The event was staged under lights at Queensbridge Square Amphitheatre in Melbourne with Qualification rounds followed by the Head to Head battles.

The freestyle scene is definitely growing in Australia with a lot of young teenage freestylers from around the country participating in competitions such as this. Dylan entered with an Australian #2 ranking under his belt, but faced fierce competition from New Zealand and other Australian entrants.

Dylan qualified 2nd amongst the 14 entrants, and in the Head to Head Battles backed up his Runner Up spot at the Australian Titles with a 3rd place losing only after a controversial extra round.

Dylan will continue to train and advance and hopes to one day be crowned title holder!!

Well done Dylan!!

STAYING ACTIVE IN THE HEATWhen it’s hot outside it can be tempting to become a couch potato in order to stay cool. Here are some tips for staying active when the weather warms up:

Plan outdoor activities in the cooler parts of the day such as early morning or late afternoon. Wear light-weight clothing in light colours. Have water available at all times. Play in the shady areas out of direct sunlight. Include indoor activities such as twister or dancing to music.
