Using pouvoir & vouloir

• These 2 verbs are used when you want to say that you can or want to do something.

• Because of this, another verb usually follows pouvoir and vouloir.

• Since you can’t have 2 verbs conjugated next to each other, the first verb is conjugated and the second is in the infinitive.

• Ex. Je peux nager. I can swim. Je veux nager. I want to swim.

Negation with pouvoir & vouloir

• As always, the ne….pas format is used.

• Place the ne before the verb and the pas after the verb.

• With these 2 verbs, the ne…pas goes around pouvoir and vouloir and not the infinitive verb.
