2 The Chamber ConneCTion

After a hot and dry then wet and humid summer, welcome to what we hope will be a pleasant and productive autumn season with two of our biggest events of the year. October 14 brings us Applefest, and I don’t need to say much more since we all know about the excitement, the crowds, and the fundraising opportunities it affords our local groups. Sponsorships are still available, so contact the Caboose about getting in on that action. Speaking of the Caboose, the new coat of paint and freshened graphics are done, so take a look if you haven’t already done so. And on November 17 we will have our 79th

Annual Meeting event, “The Magic of Warwick.” This year’s event at Hickory Hill Golf Course will feature great food, awards presentations and a special performance by internationally famed magician Rocco Silano. We thank you for all your continuing support of the Chamber and its activities, and hope to see you as we enjoy autumn in New York and in this magical place—the Warwick Valley.

From Chamber President John RedmanPresident, Union Square Group LTD

Five Cent Bag LawSustainable Warwick is looking

forward to addressing the members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce about the referendum for the new bag law which will be on the November ballot. Extremely successful in reducing plastic waste in all localities where it has instituted the fee on checkout bags, it is the easiest model of bag law to follow for both merchants and consumers. It will put Warwick on the team that is beginning to address the serious problem of plastic pollution the world is facing. Please remember to turn the ballot over in November and vote YES for the town’s “five cent fee on checkout bag” law.

From the Caboose

We are now into what many people call their favorite time of year. Certainly a busy season with all that we have coming up, and with the enhanced influx of tourists anxious to partake of our region’s bounties!

Applefest this year, our 30th, is on October 14th. The committee works ten months to plan for our signature one day event. Last year’s crowd exceeded 40,000 people!

Our Chamber’s Annual Awards Dinner on November 17th will be our 79th. The theme and title this year is “The Magic of Warwick” and will be held at the Hickory Hill Golf Course. Hope you can make it!

Looking back to September, we celebrated our 24th Annual Taste of Warwick at the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery on the 17th. Despite the rain and thanks to our wonderful restaurants and liquid providers, all of our 300 guests had a lovely evening.

Please keep us in mind when you plan your advertising. You might think of us as an extension of your ad department…and it is free as part of your membership! Your website should always be up to date and be sure to connect with us on Facebook. We are here to help you, and love it when you ask.

Thank you as always for your membership, your friendship and your support.

1. Exfoliate, 1-2 times a week! Exfoliating brightens skin, removes dead skin cells, helps unclog pores and allows betterabsorption of products. Careful not to overdo it. Exfoliating frequently can lead to redness, irritation, tightened skin, drypatches and a burning sensation.2. Hydrate your skin, cleanse, tone, moisturize! In that order. Once in the morning and once in the evening.3. Get a facial! Schedule a facial appointment to get a boost in your skin care routine. Marta O’Connor Skin Care Studiocan determine what your skin needs to get you on the right maintenance path.

Big Turnout and Lots of Energy Denote the Chamber’s 24th Taste of Warwick The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce once again hosted the Taste of Warwick celebrating this area’s many restaurants,

wineries and breweries. Promoting the sense of community that makes the Warwick Valley and its surrounding locals special, 2018 was the twenty-fourth consecutive year of this successful event. During an elegant, candlelit evening under the stars, guests sampled gourmet foods and wines while listening to live music by Longchamp and Manzo. Guests were treated to samplings created by our regional chefs that take advantage of local produce to create and promote their specialties. As is traditional, the event was held at Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery on Little York Road off Route 1A.

Although the weather did not cooperate with us this year, we are happy to say that we had a record turnout in guests and the energy under the tent was tangible! We cannot aptly express how appreciative we are to those who were able to participate in this year’s event. We would like to thank our many restaurants, wineries and breweries for presenting such a magnificent evening.

Changing The Irrevocable Estate Planby Valerie K. Zammitti, JD, mba, LLm, Tuckfelt & Zammitti

(Attorney Advertising) Do you have an irrevocable trust as a part of your estate plan? If so, there are options to change certain provisions despite the mistaken belief that such a trust cannot be altered. You can amend or decant your trust using the laws available in New York, typically without Court involvement.

The following common trust provisions you may want to review:• Lifetime creditor protection for your beneficiaries rather than outright distributions

at certain ages • Tax treatment of trust income to ensure tax liabilities incurred at lowest rates possible • Governing State law and Trustee of the trust should match your overall goals and wishes
