Roundtable Discussion on “Health and Environment”

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) in partnership with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) organized a Roundtable

Discussion on “Health and Environment” on the 24th of October 2019 at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI).

The resource persons at the Roundtable included Dr. Faheem Tahir, National Institute of Health; Dr. Ejaz Ahmad

Khan, Health Services Academy; Dr. Anjum Rasheed, Centre for Climate Research & Development; and Dr. Jabir

Syed, Meteorology Department, CUI. the Roundtable was moderated by Dr. Imran Syed, Head CPS.

CPS-Hanns-Seidel Foundation arranged series of Roundtable Discussion.

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) in partnership with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) arranged series of

Roundtable Discussion at COMSATS University Islamabad.

The aim of the Roundtables was to examine intersecting issues that require a multifaceted approach to taking

problems of higher Education, health and environment, Women Development and Management of Natural Resources.

CPS Researcher participated in Panel Discussion

Dr. Kulsoom Sumra, Assistant professor, Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad participated as

one of the panelists on Policy Dialogue Series on: Anti-Corruption Landscape in Pakistan. The Panel Discussion was

held on December 3, 2019 at Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi.

CPS Researcher conducted training session on Public Policy Process.

Dr. Kulsoom Sumra, Assistant professor, Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad conducted

Training Sessions on Public Policy Process and capacity building at Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal head office Islamabad on

November 15 and 19, 2019.

CPS Researcher conducted a workshop for Administrative Officers of CUI.

Mr. Umar Sheraz, Senior Research Officer, Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad conducted a

workshop on “Anticipating Change” for administrative officers of COMSATS University Islamabad in the basement of

Cubator 1ne, Park Road Chak Shahzad Islamabad. The Workshop was held Nov. 12, 2019.

Roundtable discussion on "Management of Natural Resources after the

18th Constitutional Amendment"

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) held a Roundtable discussion on "Management of Natural Resources after the

18th Constitutional Amendment" at COMSATS University Islamabad on December 12, 2019. The Roundtable was

moderated by Dr. Imran Syed, Head CPS, and the participants included Mr. Mahboob Elahi, former Director Gen-

eral, Ministry of Climate Change; Syed Mahmood Nasir , Former Inspector General of Forests, Ministry of Climate

Change; Dr Manzoor Ahmad Malik, Director (Hydrology); Mr. Zia Ul Islam, National Programme Manager, National

Ozone Unit, Ministry of Climate Change; Ms. Itrat Zahara, Ministry of Inter-Provisional Coordination and Dr. Anjum

Rashid, Assistant Professor, CCRD, COMSATS University Islamabad.

Roundtable Discussion on "Women Development"

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) organized a Roundtable Discussion on "Women Development" on 28 Novem-

ber 2019 at COMSATS University Islamabad. The expert participants at the discussion included Ms. Shahla Tabas-

sum, Assistant Professor/Incharge, Gender Studies, Fatima Jinnah Women University; Ms. Sarwat Sughra, Technical

Advisor on Gender, FATA Development Programme, Ms. Sadaf Dar, Programme Officer, Gender & Develop-

ment, Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN) and Dr. Imran Syed, Head, CPS. The Discussion was made possi-

ble with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), Pakistan Office, Islamabad.

CPS Researcher attended Consultation Session on Business and Human Rights.

Mr. Umar Sheraz, Senior Research Officer, Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad attended the

Consultation Session on Business and Human Rights in Pakistan held on November 6, 2019. The session was

conducted by Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the

Research Society of International Law (RSIL) and the aim of the session was develop a National Action Plan (NAP) on

Business and Human Rights (BHR) in Pakistan. His ideas on disability, patient safety, workplace safety and health were

highly appreciated.

CPS Researcher Conducted a session on the Sarkar Game at NUML University.

Mr. Umar Sheraz, Senior Research Officer, Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad conducted a

session on the Sarkar Game with National University of Modern Language students on November 22, 2019. Sarkar

Game is a tool for students for critiquing the social construct of using Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar’s theory of social change.

CPS Researcher Conducted a storytelling session at Islamabad Literary Festival.

Mr. Umar Sheraz, Senior Research Officer, Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad conducted a

storytelling session at Islamabad Literary Festival 2019 on October 23rd, 2019. This was part of a panel discussion on

“Children Literature in an international perspective”

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) aims at bridging the gap between academia, research

and the public policy making processes. To achieve its goals the Centre’s team is a blend of

academicians, scholarly researchers and policy practitioners who have had extensive experi-

ence in public policy formulation and implementations process at senior levels.

Through its collaboration and partnership with well-known policy centers and think tanks

around the world, the Centre also examines Pakistan’s policy alternatives on the basis of

best international practices in various fields.

Apart from the small number of team members at CPS, the Centre is also able to access

over 500 PhD scholars working as faculty across the campuses of COMSATS in the country.
