HS Drumlines East Rochester Drumline

East Rochester Drumline

The East Rochester Drumline exists to provide an exciting and educational experience in music to those students who are percussion majors, those who are new to percussion, and those who are new to instrumental music. Oh, and to rock.

Drumline is a major part of Percussion Ensemble, a full-time, full-credit course at East Rochester High School that was split four years ago from the high school band. In addition to working as the Drumline, we study a number of other areas in the field of percussion including concert percussion, mallets, drumset, and ethnic drumming styles. Selected students learn concert band percussion parts and rehearse and perform with the Wind Ensemble. The Drumline currently marches 5 snares, 2 quints, 6 basses, and 3 cymbals, with 7 students in the auxiliary.

For the first time, the ERHS Drumline is competing in the New York State Percussion Circuit, a division of Winter Guard International. Our show is based on the music of System of a Down, AND features battery-intensive arrangements of Toxicity, Question, and Hypnotize. We are proud to have hosted the East Rochester Percussion Showcase on March 10, and to be featured in a March 4Rochester Democrat and Chronicle article on the Hilton show.

Victor Blue Devils Percussion Ensemble

Victor Blue Devils Percussion Ensemble They will be performing the music from Cirque du Soleil Quidam. Quidam is a nameless passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past. It could be anyone or anybody. Could be someone coming, going, living in our anonymous society. A member of the crowd, one of the silent majorities. The one who cries out, sings, and dreams within us all. This is the “Quidam” that Cirque de Soleil is celebrating. Music design is by Kirk Gay and Ted Mascari Visual design is by Mark Rider The group is also instructed by Janelle Cama, Harrison Gordner, and Joe Taylor The ensemble is under the direction of Ted Mascari The Victor indoor percussion ensemble would like to thank the band parents and booster organization for all of their support. Ladies and gentlemen, The Victor Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

OCC Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble

The OCC Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble is the defending New York State Percussion Circuit: College Division Champion! The Onondaga Community College Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble is a group of area all-stars. It provides the Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble experience to students whose high school or college does not offer such an ensemble. Students 15 years of age and older with a background in percussion are invited to audition. This year’s show is titled: “Four: A New Hope!” 4 (four) is a number, numeral, and glyph. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5 Four is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. This is also true in several other languages. Four is the smallest composite number that is equal to the sum of its prime factors. As a consequence of this, it is the smallest Smith number. In American football, 4 is today most commonly identified with the jersey number of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. OnceFavre retires, the Packers are expected to retire Favre's jersey. This will cause 4 to be the first number to be retired by all the major professional sports franchises in a single U.S. state (Wisconsin) as the Milwaukee Brewers have retired the number for Paul Molitor and the Milwaukee Bucks have retired it in honor of Sidney Moncrief.

Lee Caron

Lee Caron Over the past four years, Lee Caron has gained recognition as a traditional rudimental snare drum specialist. Hailing from Fairfield, Connecticut, Lee was exposed to fife and drum corps at a very early age. At age 9, he began rudimental drum lessons with Jay Toumeyand performed with local fife and drums corps. This grew into an impressionable interest in all aspects of percussion and led to several years of training in percussion in Bridgeport, Connecticut with Jim Royle.

Page 11: Central New York Day of Percussion April 21, 2007 Storer ...myhome.sunyocc.edu/~bridger/eventsarchive/programs/cnydop07.pdf · Central New York Day of Percussion April 21, 2007 Storer

Upon studying at the Hartt School of Music and the Boston Conservatory, Lee was able to work alongside percussionists such as Benjamin Toth, Alexander Lepak, David Samuels, Glen Valez, Patrick Hollenbeck, Nancy Zeltsman, and Sal Rabbio. He also studied privately with Neil Grover and Duncan Patton. During this time he became a member of the Connecticut Patriots Fife and Drum Corps from Plainville, Connecticut and was under the tutelage of Paul Cormier, placing first in numerous rudimental snare drum contests throughout the North East. Once collegiate training in percussion had ended, he won a position in the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps 3rd US INF (escort to the President) in Washington D.C. His travels take him regularly to Basel, Switzerland where he performs in the festival of "Fasnacht" and studies Swiss rudimental drumming with Albert Bachmann, a prot-g of Alfonse Grieder who was a student of the famous Fritz Burger. In addition to his rudimental drumming, Lee performs with orchestras and in music theatre productions around Boston, Massachusetts, where he now resides and works as a free-lance percussionist, educator, and as a member of the Middlesex County Volunteers Fife and Drum Corps. In August of 2007, Mr. Caron will be performing in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Edinburgh, Scotland with the Middlesex County Volunteers, which will be the first American fife and drum corps to ever perform at this prestigious event.
