Heavenly Father, we bow our heads and thank You for Your

love. Accept thanks for the peace that yields this day and

the shared faith that makes its continuance likely. Make us

strong to do Your work, willing to heed and hear Your will,

and write in our hearts these words: Use power to help

people. For we are given power not to advance our own

purpose, not to make a great show in the world, not a name,

There is but one just use of power, and it is to serve people.

Help us remember, Lord. Amen

Nov. 17, St. Elizabeth of Hungary:1207-1231: She w as born at

Pressburg or Saros-Patak, Hungary. When four years old was brought to the

court of Landgrave Herman I of Thuringia at Wartburg Castle, near Eisenach, as

the betrothed of his son Ludwig. She was married at the age of 14, had four

children, and they were an ideal married couple. She became known for her great

charity, built a hospital at the foot of their castle. They were married six years

when Ludwig went on crusade and died of the plague at Otantto. She was

heartbroken, and to add to her troubles she was accused of mismanaging his

estate because of her great charity; she was forced to leave Wartburg, probably

forced out by her brother-in-law. She made provisions for her children and in

1228 became a Franciscan tertiary. She devoted herself to caring for the sick, the

aged, and the poor at the hospice there. She led a life of exceptional poverty and

humility and was allowed back to the castle four years before her death by the

usurper, who also recognized her son’s succession to the title of landgrave. She

died at Marburg, not yet 24, and soon miracles were reported at her tomb.

Thanksgiving Proclamation

“It is right that we should be

grateful for the plenty amidst

which we live; the productivity of

our farms, the outpour of our

factories, the skill of our artisans

and the ingenuity of our

inventors. But in the midst of our

Thanksgiving, let us not be un-

mindful of the plight of those in

many parts of the world to whom

hunger is no stranger and the

plight of those millions more

who live without the blessings of

liberty and freedom, with some,

we are able to share our material

abundance. To all we can offer

the sustenance of hope that we

shall not fail in our unceasing

efforts to make this a peaceful

and prosperous world for all

mankind.

John F. Kennedy

see form and return this weekend. Or write your own reflection and return it to

Mass this weekend.

I have many things to be thankful for, God. And

sometimes I remember them and other times, I forget.

When something large or small goes wrong, it fills

my mind and I forget those things for which–

when I remember– I am thankful.

Help me to remember the good things. God.

To name them, to savor them, to be thankful to you.
