TASKIT/PLTS Test ExecutiveSoftware

TASKIT/PLTS is an advanced,application-specific test executive thatautomates every aspect of positionlocation test execution, data collection, results reporting and results analysis.Test suites are defined in terms of theparameters required in a particular test, instead of instrument-specific settings, making it simple to correlate parametervalues to industry standard testconditions. TASKIT/PLTS automaticallytranslates the parameters in the teststandards to the appropriate instrumentconfigurations.

TASKIT/PLTS automaticallyconfigures all of the system elementsand coordinates the test executionrequired to evaluate the positionlocation performance of a mobiledevice. TASKIT/PLTS collects and

archives all relevant test conditions andresults in an industry-standardMicrosoft Access database. Integratedreport generation makes it easy toextract and display key performancemetrics from the archived data.

The TASKIT/PLTS test executiveprovides a structured means toautomatically execute a series of testprocedures. Test suites are a collectionof individual tests, each designed toevaluate a particular aspect of themobile device’s performance. One ormore related test suites are organizedinto a test session. Any combinationof tests, test suites and test sessionscan be saved and recalled, allowingtest campaigns to be quickly set up andexecuted.

CDMA Network Topology TASKIT/PLTS automatically converts BTSand mobile device location parametersinto a graphical display, allowing the

impact of CDMA network geometry onAFLT and hybrid positioningperformance to be characterized.

5PLTS Position Location Test System

The flexibility of PLTSenables a very wide rangeof field test scenarios tobe created, reducing theneed for expensive fieldtrials.

The impairments option combined withspecific test suites gives PLTS field test-like functionality. PLTS emulatesrepresentative field conditions wherepropagation impairments, such asvarying levels of GPS and CDMA signalblockage, multipath interference andDoppler spreading, may be present.Rural, suburban, urban and highwayenvironments, as well as indoor vs.outdoor operation, can present verydifferent operating conditions tolocation-capable mobile devices.

Spirent’s PLTS enables a largenumber of test parameters to becontrolled. Multiple tests can beautomatically conducted over a verywide range of times, locations andCDMA/GPS environments. Thecontrolled test environment ensures

Field Scenario Test Suites

Standard and Commercial TestSuites

TASKIT/PLTS is a cohesive solution fortesting a mobile device to key industrystandards. With this software, pre-defined test suites can be quicklyloaded and executed at the touch of abutton. Test suites for the MinimumPerformance Tests developed by 3GPP2(IS-916) are included with TASKIT/PLTS.IS-916 is intended to ensure that amobile device’s location can bedetermined in any CDMA wirelesssystem that is compliant with the IS-801-1 Position Determination Servicestandard. The statistical confidencedetermination method in the

With pre-definedtest suites,TASKIT/PLTSprovides a simple,efficient approach toensuringcompliance withindustry standards.

specification is automatically appliedby TASKIT/PLTS to determine pass/failcriteria.

Utilizing TASKIT/PLTS test suiteseliminates the need to comb throughtest standards and attempt to map thetest conditions to instrument settings.Industry standard tests are regularlyupdated and Spirent provides thecorresponding software updates. Pre-defined tests can be easily modifiedthrough TASKIT/PLTS’s graphical userinterface to create an unlimited numberof custom test conditions.

With the focus of service providersexpanding into commercial location-based services, it is critical tocharacterize the end-user experienceof those applications. Since the IS-916Minimum Performance Tests have onlybeen designed for Control Plane (IS-801-1) transport mechanisms, PLTSoffers User Plane implementations ofthese tests as part of its User Planeoption. With these test suites, keycharacteristics that affect end-userexperience, such as accuracy and time-to-fix (TTF), can be analyzed.

that results are accurate andrepeatable, greatly facilitating diagnosisof performance issues and reducingthe need for expensive field trials tovalidate mobile device performance.

Lab-based testing is not yetaccepted as a substitute for the fieldtest methodology described in theFCC’s OET Bulletin No. 71. However, the test methodology described in theBulletin can be simulated by PLTS. Thestatistical analysis (required accuracyand reliability requirements for E911Phase II mobile-based solutions: 50meters for 67 percent of calls, 150meters for 95 percent of calls) may becarried out automatically by PLTS onthe results. Using this analysis,TASKIT/PLTS can also apply pass/failcriteria.

User Plane Network Emulation With the emergence of commerciallocation-based services (LBS), userplane technologies are rapidly beingdeployed to support these nextgeneration services. Instead of controlplane implementations, where location-sensitive information is transferred

between the mobile device and thenetwork using standard CDMAsignaling, user plane implementationsemploy a TCP/IP connection betweenthe MS and the location server (PDE).

The User Plane option provides asoftware enhancement to the PLTSsystem, providing a platform foranalyzing the performance andbehavior of mobile devices designedfor interoperability with theQUALCOMM® User Plane Architecture. This option adds test support for a widerange of LBS applications to PLTS,together with an integrated MobilePositioning Center (MPC) emulator thatsupports non-trusted LBS applicationsrequiring MPC authentication. With theUser Plane option, the performanceanalysis capabilities of the system areextended with a set of test suites basedon the control plane TIA-916 MinimumPerformance specification. Coupledwith optional EV-DO support, acomprehensive platform is provided foranalyzing 1xRTT and 1xEV-DOcommercial LBS devices.

The GSS5060 with SimLOCATEsoftware allows full controloverthe GPS environment, including real-time interactivecontrol of satellite power levels.

The MPC emulator allowsthorough performance analysisof commercial location services.
