C&D Waste Scenario
Construction industry in India is growing at twice the world
average. Total construction market in India (PWC Estimates) for
FY 14 was over Rs. 900,000 crores. This creates sizable C&D
waste.
It is estimated on a conservative basis that over 25-30 million tons
of C&D waste is generated annually that clogs rivers, blocks
traffic and occupies dumping space
Size graded aggregates, manufactured sand and cast products are
the outputs which have great potential to replace natural
materials and address shortage of building materials
The first plant at Delhi (Burari) has shown that there is huge
potential of recycling and value addition

Heterogeneous Nature of C&D waste
Generally C&D waste is mixture of many components hence makes its recycling more complex

C&D Waste Management : Scientific Sustainability
Processed over 17 lakh tons of C&D waste since its inception in 2009, which would
otherwise have been dumped illegally in the river Yamuna and other environmentally
sensitive areas
Saving of about 11 hectares of land
costing app. 256 crores(as per circle rates)
A unique large scale C&D recycling facility in the
Country, compliant with MSW, 2000 Rules
Engineered to process mixed Indian C&D waste
Reduces usage of natural resources and enhances
conservation
Reduces sand mining from river banks
Washing water recycled, only 10-15% makeup water
Reduces burden on the landfill sites, saving precious
urban land
Reduces air pollution
Able to recycle/recover about 95% of incoming waste
A replicable Public Private Partnership model

The 10 KM long road is being built as per specificationsand supervision of CRRI.
Size of C&D aggregates proposed to be used in this PilotRoad project is -150mm to +26.5mm. About 6 lakh tonsof processed C&D will be used in making of the PilotRoad.
Est. Revenue FY 16 Rs 80 million, Margin 50%
Advisory : Usage of Recycled Products
Regulatory Challenges
Lack of National Standards and regulations
Draft SWM Rules 2015 have incorporated detailed management of C&D
waste (expected to be notified soon)
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is working on fast track mode but final
Standards yet to be notified
Market development is very important
