CHINA AS HOST COUNTRY

• Demonstration effect: the construction of ecological civilization in China could be a role model of sustainable development globally, similar role as China played in the frontier of climate change

• Experience sharing: bringing up experience and lesson learnt, foster new development idea and governance pattern

COP12Secretariat of CBD invited China to

consider the possibility of hosting

COP 15 in 2020

Plan of application was prepared by

MEP, circulated to relevant Ministries

for comments and then approved by

the State Council

COP13 announced COP15 will take place

in China in 2020

May 2016, China announces bid for

COP15 at the first meeting of the

Subsidiary Body on Implementation

(SBI 1) in Montreal, Canada

Since 1993 China has became a member of CBD. COP 15

of 2020 will be the 1st time for China to host the CBD COP
