As opportunities grow and markets
expand, the need for qualified and
capable people in the management
cadre keeps growing. If someone is
looking at a rewarding corporate career,
an MBA degree from a top B-School is
the ticket.
WHY MBA?
GET AHEAD. GET AN MBA.
n Faster growth and a rewarding
career path
n High-paying jobs and an upper-hand in international jobs
n A new world of opportunities for students from streams with limited options and/or salaries
n ‘Start-up’ booster for aspiring entrepreneurs looking for credibility
· For Faster growth: Executives often realize, after working for a
couple of years, that an MBA degree is a must-have for faster
growth. Chances of those with an MBA bypassing others are very
very high.
· High-Paying jobs: Those fresh out of college also get access to
high-paying jobs, an increased level of job security and a jump start
to their career path. Many get placed internationally too.
· World of opportunities: For students hailing from academic
backgrounds that don't guarantee good job prospects or salaries, an
MBA degree could make all the difference by opening up a world of
opportunities.
· 'Start-up' Booster: Aspiring entrepreneurs find that credibility,
financial backing, networking and ideation come easier with an
MBA, which can also serve as a launch pad for their ideas as well as
a fall-back option.
Management exams - What do they test? The selection process generally consists of two stages:
1) · Written Examination of about 2-3 hours duration
· Multiple Choice and Fill-in-the-Blank Questions with negative
marking
· Areas tested - Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Logical
Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, General
Knowledge (GK is tested in exams like XAT, SNAP, IIFT, TISSNET,
CMAT etc. CAT doesn't test GK)
2) Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal
Interview (PI).
Most B-Schools shortlist applicants after the written test. Selected
candidates will then face the Group Discussion/Written Ability Test and
Personal Interview Rounds. Some B-Schools also use other tools like
Group Tasks, Case Studies, Extempore and Group Interviews to assess
knowledge, communication skills and managerial skills, and to check
confidence levels and attitude of the applicants.
B-Schools may use the scores of more than one entrance test to shortlist
candidates. Some of the major entrance tests are:
· Common Admission Test (CAT): This is conducted by the IIMs.
Prominent B-Schools that accept the CAT score include the 20 IIMs,
FMS - Delhi, MDI - Gurgaon, SP Jain - Mumbai, National Institute of
Industrial Engineering (NITIE) - Mumbai, Schools of Management
(SoMs) at IIT - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kharagpur, Kanpur and
Roorkee, MICA, IMT - Ghaziabad, etc.
· Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT): Conducted by XLRI. The XAT score is
accepted by XLRI-Jamshedpur, Xavier Institute of Management
(XIMB) - Bhuvaneswar, Goa Institute of Management (GIM), SP Jain, etc.
· Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP): Conducted and
accepted by the Symbiosis Group of Institutes including Symbiosis
Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Symbiosis Centre of
Management & Human Resources Development (SCMHRD),
Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), Symbiosis
Institute of Telecom Management (SITM), Symbiosis Institute of
Management Studies (SIMS), etc.
· NMAT by GMAC: Conducted by GMAC and scores accepted by
NMIMS Mumbai / Hyderabad / Bangalore, XIMB, IBS, etc.
· Common Management Admission Test (CMAT): Conducted by
All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
· Management Aptitude Test (MAT): Conducted by All-India
Management Association (AIMA). A large number of B-Schools
across the country accept this test score.
· Some B-Schools conduct their own tests, viz. IIFT Entrance Test for
Indian Institute of Foreign Trade - New Delhi, Kolkata, Kakinada;
TISSNET for Tata Institute of Social Sciences; MICAT for MICA and
IBSAT for ICFAI Group of Business Schools, etc.
Admission into around 140
management institutes, including the
IIMs, is based on the Common
Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the
IIMs. This makes CAT the Holy Grail for
every MBA aspirant.

Facing the CAT: FAQsQ. What are the eligibility criteria for CAT?
A. Following was the criteria released for CAT 2018:
· Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA
[45% in case of candidates belonging to SC, ST, PWD categories]
· Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor's Degree/
equivalent qualification examination and those who completed
degree requirements and are awaiting results could also apply.
Q. What criteria should you seek to find a trusted and effective CAT
training institute?
A. We encourage you to dig deep into the claims of the organisations
that you are considering. Newspapers are full of tall, often
misleading claims and inflated admission numbers achieved. We
advise students to ask questions, find out the details and really know
an institution's reputation.
Q. You say that 2525 T.I.M.E. students have made it through CAT
2017 and they secured 10,948 final selections to 17 IIMs for
which the results are publicly available. What does this mean?
A. A large number of students get final selections into more than one
IIM. If you count the number of final selections secured by T.I.M.E.
students in the 17 IIMs in 2017, it adds up to 10,948. However, this
number was achieved by 2525 students!
Do not get confused between 'calls' and 'selections'. 'Calls' is a term
used to indicate short-lists for the GD / PI round. What really matters
is the 'final selection' into the IIMs.
Q. What is the pattern of CAT?
A. · CAT pattern is not fixed and may change from year to year.
· A broad outline of the pattern is announced in July-Aug. Additional
details may be made available in due course by the CAT authorities.
· For CAT 2018, the notification announced three sections of 60
minutes each - Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension (Section 1),
Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation (Section 2), Quantitative
Ability (Section 3).
· The number of questions in each section was not disclosed.
· In case of multiple choice questions, the candidates were awarded 3
marks for a right answer, and penalized with 1 mark for a wrong
attempt. In case of non-multiple choice questions, the candidates
were awarded 3 marks for a right answer and there was no penalty
for wrong attempts.
· With the pattern and content of the exam liable to change, it is very
important for the students to use the latest material for their
preparation.
Q. What kind of salary can I expect on graduating from a top
B-School?
· Salaries on campus depends on the academic performance (during
MBA) and the candidate's profile. The average salary figures of top-
rung schools like IIM-A / IIM-B / IIM-C / IIM-L / XLRI / FMS / SP Jain,
etc. can be in the range ̀ 20 to ̀ 25 lakhs per annum.
Even at around 80%ile (40,000 to 50,000 rank) one could get into an
institute that would fetch a job offering of ̀ 9 to ̀ 10 lakhs per annum.
· The most important thing to remember is that an MBA from a decent
B-School would invariably spike your earning potential. All you need
to do is gain admission into the right B-School.
Q. What is the weightage given to the factors within a candidate's
control i.e., CAT, GD, WAT & PI ?
A. Most IIMs have at least 70% weightage assigned to the above
parameters. Academics are not always as critical. Similarly, not
possessing work experience should not be a cause of worry as a
good chunk of students at the top most B-Schools are freshers.
WHY? HOW? WHERE?
WHEN?
FrequentlyAsked
Questions
n Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree or those
appearing for final year of Bachelor’s degree
n Salary: An MBA from a top B-School
could earn you 20-25 LPA.
Q. Is it really better to first get a few years of work experience and
then prepare for CAT?
A. Sample a scenario: Ram is an engineering student in the final year of
college who has been selected by a leading IT firm in the country. He
is really confused if he should attempt the CAT now or get two years
of experience first and then attempt it. Now consider the following:
· Assuming the fee of the college he would get into two years later
does not go up, he is effectively choosing between making `8.4
lakhs in 2 years and then doing an MBA or doing an MBA first,
making `25.2 lakhs in two years. Clearly he would have earned
`16.8 lakhs more if he went for an MBA first.
· The fee for the B-School has been assumed to remain the same. It,
however, is likely to go up with every passing year.
· For a job promotions, his work experience as an MBA would be more
relevant and valuable.
· If he wrote the CAT as a fresher and things did not go his way, he can
always attempt it a second time.
· With a job, it would be difficult for him to start his preparation for an
entrance test, as his job wouldn't leave him with much time. If he has
prepared earlier, he can definitely find time to brush up his concepts
but not otherwise.
· If we look at the weightage given to work experience in the IIMs, it's
not more than 10% for most of the IIMs. So, it's not as much of a
difference as it is hyped to be.
· Even during the placements at a B-School, the added incentive for
every year of work-experience is not much in monetary terms.
Q. Is it necessary to choose MBA Specialization at the time of
application itself?
A. No, in most cases it is not required. Most management institutes
offer General Management courses. In this kind of a course, a
student learns the basics of all functional areas, viz. Marketing,
Finance, Human Resources, Systems and Operations during the first
year. In the second year there is an option of choosing subjects
depending on one's area of interest.
#Q. What is the difference between MBA and PGPM/PGDM ?
A. When an institute is an autonomous body (meaning it is not affiliated
to any university) and conducts management courses, then such an
Institute cannot offer an MBA degree. Instead, it awards a Post-
Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) or a Post-Graduate
Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA). Only universities
(foreign or Indian) can grant MBA degrees. The IIMs, XLRI, etc. offer
only a diploma.
However, students are advised to bear in mind that the value of the
management course pursued by them does not depend on whether
it is a 'Degree' or a 'Diploma', rather it depends on the reputation and
standing of the institute that is offering the Degree or Diploma.
*The cabinet has approved a bill which will empower the IIMs to award
degrees instead of diplomas. The bill is yet to get approval of Parliament.
We provide the latest content and study material best suited to prepare for the varying pattern of CAT.

Student TestimonialsSome of our CAT 2017 champions speak for us!
Shweta Arora
Final Selections: IIM-A, C, L, I, K, Rai, Ran, Roh, T,
Ka, Ud, Sam
T.I.M.E. faculty were very helpful & were always on
their toes to assist us. All my doubts & concerns were
resolved by the faculty at T.I.M.E.. The classroom
course was beneficial. T.I.M.E. ensured that the level
of difficulty was kept a notch higher. The GDPI mocks were the most
helpful at the time of interview preparation. The AIMCATs and SAMCATs
coupled with the sectional tests provided the simulation to improve the
CAT score. Concept clarity ensured in the classroom, offered frequent
chances to get better at attempting the final paper. The student
counselling sessions were pretty helpful.
Sidharth S
Final Selections: IIM-A, B, I, K, Rai, Ran, Roh, T, Ka,
Ud, Sam
At T.I.M.E., I was exposed to indepth knowledge
sessions and tips on handling interviews. I am
thankful to T.I.M.E. for the several rounds of mock
interviews that made me believe in myself. I am not a
confident speaker but T.I.M.E. made me turn my weaknesses into
strengths. The different variations in questions helped me gain
confidence to such an extent that I could easily tackle the high pressure
IIM-A & IIM-B interviews.
Sibi M
Final Selections: IIM-A, B, C, L, I, Ka, Ud
The best thing about T.I.M.E. is the AIMCAT series. It
helped me to track where I stand in terms of
competition. Varying difficulty of AIMCATs gave me
confidence to manage any kind of mocks. The expert
mocks taken after every AIMCAT, helped me to chart
my CAT strategy. There was also in-depth mock analysis which fixed my
flaws in each and every dimension. T.I.M.E. provided me with good
knowledge sessions for my interview preparation which was very
useful. There were Mock discussions after every 3 mocks and
workshops were also conducted. Regular Webinars for interview
preparation, Numerous Mock Interviews with different faculties gave me
the exposure, and the confidence to tackle and drive the interview under
my control.
Madhur Gupta
Final Selections: IIM-A, B, C, L
The best part of my preparation for CAT was definitely
my coaching at T.I.M.E. The faculty were very helpful
& provided me with the best possible guidance and
constant support. The classes were a real value
addition and provided me with a perfect competitive
environment needed to prepare for this exam. T.I.M.E. undoubtedly
played a vital role in my performance in CAT. The workshops conducted
were truly exhaustive & were also excellent sources to revise old
concepts & build on what you had already learned. The modules and
online sectional tests were more than enough and covered every concept
in detail. AIMCATs are the best Mock test series in the nation. The
difficulty level of the mocks was often higher than that of the real test, and
this gave me the confidence to crack the exam.
Ankit Chaturvedi
Final Selections: IIM-B, L, I, K, Rai, Ran, Roh, T, Ka,
Ud, Sir, Sam
T.I.M.E. is one of the best coaching institutes for
B-School preparation. I would rate the overall
experience as 5 out of 5. All the faculty and the centre
staff were very supportive. Classroom sessions are
very well planned and executed. Great material in terms of the content.
The GDPI was helpful in building my confidence. AIMCATs, Sectional
Tests, Mock Tests, topic based workshops and most importantly the
personal guidance given by faculty members helped me in cracking the
CAT written test. The Student home page and tests uploaded in the
homepage benefitted me a lot. I want to thank T.I.M.E. for providing me
the guidance, help and support.
Arpit Chauhan
Final Selections: IIM-A,C,I, K
T.I.M.E. has been my constant throughout my CAT
journey. Both teaching and administrative staff here
are really helpful, which made the learning experience
here really amazing. T.I.M.E. provides you with a
comprehensive preparation module. Easy backup
classes and doubt sessions are one of the best things about T.I.M.E.. The
Mock tests helps one to maintain speed and accuracy simultaneously.
T.I.M.E. has been helpful throughout my CAT journey by providing me
with the necessary support and guidance. The AIMCATs provided are
without any doubt very helpful. On preparing for the AIMCATs you gain
the necessary confidence to crack the actual CAT exam. The analysis
provided for AIMCATs is more comprehensive than any other test series.
Aradhana Gogoi
Final Selections: IIM-C, L, I, Rai, Ran, Roh, T, Ka,
Ud, Sir, Sam
T.I.M.E. has been instrumental in helping me convert
the call of my dream B-School. The individual
attention given to each student is unmatched. The
T.I.M.E. test series and the in-depth analysis of the
results helped me ace the CAT.
Shubhangi Jain
Final Selections: IIM-C, L, Rai, Ran, Roh, Ka, Ud,
Sam
Joining T.I.M.E. was the best decision I made. The
material, the teaching techniques, the doubt sessions
& the workshops all of them helped me a lot. The test
series, the teaching faculty were helpful. Classes were
really helpful, they helped me with my basic concepts. AIMCATs & the
sectional tests with the abundant material available helped me further to
clear those concepts and solve more difficult questions. The AIMCATs
and sectional tests helped me immensely as I was able to evaluate my
performance and be prepared for the exam.
