CRANK THE ENGINE UNTIL THE 00 OR TDC MARK ON THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY IS ALIGNED WITH THE TIMING POINTER.
STEP 65
.r.1...t-=~~:t..-1'---:I ~_~= ~ NO. 1 CYLINDER MUST BE ON TDC. AN INDICATION OF ACHIEVING TDC IS THE LOOSENESS OF THE NO. 1 INTAKE AND EXHAUST PUSH RODS (ROCKER ARMS SHOULD ROCK BACK AND FORTH). IF THE ROCKER ARMS ARE NOT LOOSE. THEN THE NO. 1 CYLINDER IS NOT AT TDC. REPEAT STEP 64 UNTIL NO. 1 CYLINDER IS AT TDC.

~~~,~J USING A FEELER GAUGE. ADJUST THE NO. 1 INTAKE VALVE TAPPET CLEARANCE AT .015" BY ADJUSTING THE ROCKER ARM ADJUSTING NUT.
PLACE A DIAL INDICATOR ON THE NO. 1 INTAKE VALVE RETAINER AND SET THE DIAL INDICATOR AT 0 0 •
CRANK ENGINE ONE REVOLUTION PLUS 70 ATDC. THE DIAL INDICATOR (STEP 67) SHOULD GIVE A READING OF .053". IF A READING OF .053" IS NOT OBTAINED THEN THE COMPLETE VALVE TRAIN ASSEMBLY MUST BE CHECKED.
THIS PROCEDURE (STEPS 64 THRU 68) CAN BE USED TO ALSO CHECK THE PROPER ASSEMBLY OF CAM TO CRANKSHAFT GEAR TEETH WITHOUT REMOVING THE FRONT GEAR COVER.

STEP 14
Shaft Seal Installation
STEP 17
Lubricate exposed surface of shaft and new seal with refrigerant oil. Set seal on shaft with carbon ring retainer shoulder outward.
STEP 15
IMPORTANT: Use extreme care not to touch the ground sealing face of the carbon ring. Body salts and acids will pit the ground surface.
STEP 16
Place carbon ring in seal shoulder with ground face outward.
Place "0" ring in seal plate groove and lubricate plate and "0" ring with refrigerant oil.
STEP 18
Place seal plate on positioning tool (ND-1 0547), align bolt holes in plate and compressor, press assembly straight in until seal 'plate is seated against compressor face. Install all bolts finger-tight and remove positioning tool.
