Carl Aveni is a partner of the Litigation Department of Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP. He joined the firm in 2006, after 10 years practicing at large law firms in Philadelphia and Columbus. Carl concentrates his practice on complex commercial disputes and business torts, including trade secret litigation, fiduciary litigation, shareholder disputes and professional liability.   • the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA). In 2019, he was appointed as a member of the Rickenbacker Woods Foundation Board of Trustees. Carl also co-chairs CPM’s Ethics Committee and serves on the Associate Committee, having previously served on the Strategic Planning Committee.

    COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Carl is a member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, where he is Chair of the Investment Committee. For six years, he was the Den Leader of Den 4, Cub Scout Pack 74, Simon Kenton Council. He previously served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Columbus Speech & Hearing Center, a non-profi t United Way agency, providing audiology, speech and language therapy throughout central Ohio. Carl also is a recurring Judge of the Moot Negotiation Competition, Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University and the “We the People: The Citizen and Constitution” Elementary School Showcase for the Center for Law-Related Services at the Ohio Supreme Court.

    EDUCATION

    Carl received his J.D., cum laude in 1996 from the Boston University School of Law, where he also served as an Editor of the Boston University Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from The American University, School of International Service, in 1991.

    In 2004, Carl was a co-Founder of Caring Paws, an organization that provided more than 4,000 new and gently used stuff ed animals to children displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

    SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND PUBLICATIONSCarl served as the Course Designer and Lead Presenter for the Probate Litigation Seminar, Ohio State Bar Association in 2016, 2015, 2012, 2011, and 2010. Carl’s work has been published by highly regarded litigation publications including, Litigation News, Probate Law Journal, Defense Counsel Journal, and the IADC Committee Newsletter.
