CAREER CONNECTIONS CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY CAREER ACADEMIES WHAT IS THE CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY CAREER ACADEMY? Career Connections is an emerging dynamic partnership between Indian Hills Community Col- lege and area high schools. High school juniors and seniors are able to earn college credit by enrolling in courses taught in their community or on an Indian Hills campus. Career Connections features career-focused college credit courses offered at no charge to the student. Students will take Career Connections courses either in the morning or afternoon and will attend their high school classes during the opposite time block. The Construction Technology CareerAcademies offer Oskaloosa and Ottumwa students training and practical experience in basic building skills such as blueprint reading, framing, drywall installation and finishing, basic stair building, cabinet installation, trim and interior finish, window and door installa- tion, insulation systems and building materials. Students learn to use the most up-to-date building techniques including energy efficiency, insulated foundations, modular plumbing, estimating and framing. In most cases, students will be able to earn As- sociate of Applied Science degrees in Construction Technology at Indian Hills with only one more year of study after their high school graduation. WHAT ARE THE PROGRAM’S BENEFITS? Career Connections offers many benefits. * Students get a head start in their college education preparing for a rewarding career in a high demand field. * Students receive hands-on instruction. * Students may earn both high school and col- lege credit at the same time. * All courses are offered at no cost to students. offered at Oskaloosa and Ottumwa High Schools ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES (1) Explore the Career Connections programs at our website, www.indianhills.edu/highschool.
