Prayer read before each home game...Tradition at Cardinal Newman since Sept. 11th, 2001 is to offer a prayer before every football game ~ always remembering the freedom we have to pray and never taking for granted all the blessings we have in our lives. Tonight, we remember those serving in our armed forces, protecting our freedoms, particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Let us have a moment of silence and reflection.LoRD, Thank you for all who make this game possible...parents, teachers, coaches, officials and benefactors, who support the athletic programs of these two schools and give these young men the opportunity to play. Bless the players. Keep them safe and free of injury. May they play with spirit and to the best of their abilities. Guide them to play with sportsmanship and fair play. May these young men always be thankful for the gifts, with which they have been blessed. May both these teams have memorable seasons, measured not only in their win/loss records, but more importantly in the experience of working together and caring for each other. in the words of the Blessed John Henry, Cardinal Newman, God Shall call on me, and i will hear the Lord. A M E N

A full school year has been experienced; what an

experience! The unexpected transition to co-education became an opportunity to grow, to include others in need, and to find greater focus on our mission as a Catholic school. We went forward with the idea of not leaving anyone out who wanted to be here, and to

preserve educational options that had worked. We spent a great deal of time preparing for something new, yet also for the normal school processes and orderly growth. As the year began, the students and faculty showed patience and made efforts of adjustment; they worked through new situations and circumstances. i could not thank them enough, though i did often. our school reflected the new and the old; we felt the growth and shared our hopes for more. Now that we are finished, we find we have come far.We also found balance throughout the year, a greater sense of inclusion, a marked lessening of separation and division. Sharing is truly caring; we had countless examples of this as the students sensed more than before the school as a reflection of their efforts and willingness to work together.

We found that some perceptions that the two schools had of each other were proven untrue now that we were one school. We readied ourselves for more changes in the coming year with the announcement of Roseland District making a charter school deal with the Ursuline order. Starting with 7th graders next year, we will have a new school next door; one that we have moved to work with by administrative conversations and establishing CBSL projects there next year. We prepare for new neighbors, which we will love as neighbors, as we are called to do by the Gospel. This will make for another new opportunity in the coming school year, a part of the continuing transition of our site and the property next door.We accomplish as much as we can in a limited time; this idea reminds me to remain patient as we work through plans and processes with the County on expanding our Master Plan and gaining permission for new buildings and uses. While this is not easy, we are keeping our focus now on what we can do and need to do, something which does not always work out in the order preferred. From this year though, i take heart that we will get there through this year, as we continue a transition that will take several years to complete. We prepare for these challenges and look forward to the growth. Thank you for being part of this exciting time.

Welcome to the 2012-2013 year of Cardinal Newman Athletics. i am fortunate enough to have been associated with Cardinal Newman since 1965. The principles and philosophies of unity, class, pride, and fun, are what i learned, and what i strive to uphold and pass on. Everyone at Cardinal Newman - players, coaches, faculty, and parents, contribute to the success of our athletic program. By participating in athletics, i am confident that our students will gain far more than simply learning their sport. our students will learn life lessons of teamwork, sacrifice, and unselfishness through their commitment to playing a sport. As a Catholic school, it is the responsibility of all departments, athletics included, to educate our students in the wholeness of mind, body, and spirit through the teachings of the Church.
