DESCRIPTION

The Coastal Management Plan (POL) is a regional planning tool created within the framework of Law on Territorial Management in Cantabria. Its main objective is to ensure the effective overall protection of the coastal area in the Regional Community. The POL establishes physical protection criterion for the coastal areas and, specifically, for the coastal countryside, as well as global criterion for managing uses and activities in the area. The POL is designed as a territorial planning tool that establishes the general criterion for protecting the coastal environment, which orients town growth strategies, the implantation of infrastructures, understanding protection and management as two complementary activities in the same strategy of sustainable development. In the same manner, conservation actions are proposed and, where applicable, restoration of the coastal area, in accordance with a zonation of the zoning environment.
