    First Call for Papers

    Dear Colleagues,

It is my honor to invite you to the International Magnetics Conference, INTERMAG 2012,which will be held in Vancouver from May 7th to May 11th, 2012.

INTERMAG is the premier conference on all aspects of applied magnetism, and allmembers of the international scientific communities interested in new developments inmagnetism and associated technologies are invited to attend and submit their latest findingsto INTERMAG 2012. The conference will provide a range of oral and poster presentations, invited talks and symposia, a tutorial session, and exhibits reviewing the latestdevelopments in magnetism. Selected papers from the conference will be published in theIEEE Transactions on Magnetics.

We would like to cordially invite you to attend the conference, actively participate in itstechnical sessions, and contribute to the continued success of this conference series. Up-todate information on all aspects of the conference can be found on the conference webpageathttp://intermagconference.com/2012/.

Vancouver, the site of this years conference, is well known for its majestic natural beauty,as it is nestled between the Coast Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It is frequently ranked

as one of the "best cities to live in" and is certainly a beautiful destination to visit. TheConvention Center is located right in Downtown Vancouver, and the four hotels in whichblocks of sleeping rooms at special Intermag rates are available are located within a shortwalking distance from the Convention Center. The Downtown area holds many of the city'sattractions and is home to beautiful architecture, fine dining and world class shopping. Forthe many things to see and to do in and around Vancouver, please visit the official webpageof the tourism office,www.tourismvancouver.com.

On behalf of the Management Committee of Intermag 2012, I look forward to seeing youin Vancouver and to an exciting and enjoyable conference.

    Sincerely,

    Digest Submission

Digest submission will open on November 14, 2011.The deadline for digest submission is January 8, 2012.

This deadline will be strictly observed. All digests mustbe submitted via the link provided on the conferencewebpage at http://intermagconference.com/2012/.Digests sent via e-mail or regular mail will not beprocessed or acknowledged. Digests should be in theform of a two (2) page summary. More details about theformat are posted on the conference submission web siteat:http://intermagconference.com/2012/. Authors will beinformed of the status of their submission via email inearly February 2012.

    Presentation

Contributed papers accepted for the Conference will bepresented either orally or by poster. Authors arerequested to indicate their preference for giving an oralor poster presentation on the electronic submission form. The Program Committee will make the final decision onthe assignment of papers to sessions and the presentationformat for each session. In the e-mail notice ofacceptance, authors will be notified of the type ofsession for their presentation. They will also receive aURL providing detailed guidelines and instructions foreffective presentation.

Oral presentations will be in the conventional format ofa 12-minute talk by the registered author using an LCDprojector, followed by a 3-minute discussion period.NOTE: ONLY LCD projectors will be provided.Authors are expected to bring their presentation on theirown laptop computers along with a backup copy on aUSB drive in case of laptop failure. All oral talks will bepresented in this manner - NO OTHERPRESENTATION FORMAT IS AVAILABLE.

Poster presentations will consist of well-prepared visualmaterials about the work posted on a designated board, with the author available to present details and answer

questions during the selected poster sessions. Simplyposting a hard copy of the paper is inappropriate andwill be marked as a NO SHOW. The dimensions of theposter boards are 6 feet (1.8 m) wide and 4 feet (1.2 m)high.

    Registration

Online advance registration will be available fromJanuary 9, 2012 until April 9, 2012 athttp://intermagconference.com/2012/. Registration feeswill not include any meals/meal service.

    Publication

If your digest is accepted for presentation at Intermagyou may contribute a paper for publication in the specia

Intermag issue of IEEE Transactions on Magnetics. Thmaximum paper length is FOUR (4) journal pages focontributed papers and SEVEN (7) journal pages foinvited papers. Note that the number of pages allowehas been increased compared with Intermag Conferenceof the past. The deadline for manuscript submission iMarch 2, 2012. Post-deadline manuscripts will not baccepted or forwarded for review. The review standardwill mirror those used for regular articles to be publishein IEEE Transactions on Magnetics. Note thaparticipation in the conference does not guarantee that paper will be accepted for publication. Additionally, a

least one of the paper co-authors must present theipaper at the conference in order for it to be considerefor publication. Because of the time constraints, therwill be no second round of reviews for papers that arrejected at the initial stage. All the papers will have twpeer reviews, and the final decision on the publication othe manuscripts will be made by the Intermag editors.

    Student Travel

The IEEE Magnetic Society will award travel grants oup to $1,000 each to a limited number of students in thareas of basic and applied magnetism. These grants ar

intended to partially offset travel costs for theiparticipation in the INTERMAG 2012. Financial supporis only for current graduate students. Postdoctorafellows, undergraduates or non-students are not eligible

The students advisor must be a member of the IEEEMagnetics Society. Preference will be given to thosapplicants who are student members of the MagneticSociety, nearing completion of their graduate studies anpresenting conference papers. Students who havpreviously received travel support from the MagneticSociety for any other conference are not eligible. Th

application web site will open soon after thannouncement of accepted abstracts. Application formand instructions for all travel grants will be posteonline at http://intermagconference.com/2012/ unde

Students Travel, after the announcement of digesacceptance in early February, 2012.

The deadline for submitting applications and letters oendorsement is February 24, 2012. Incomplete or latapplications and endorsement letters will not bconsidered. Applicants will be notified of thcommittees decision in April, 2012.

    Students Best Presentation Awards

A competition will be held during the conference for theIEEE Magnetics Society Student Best Presentation

Award, which recognizes and encourages excellence ingraduate studies of magnetism. Full- time graduatestudents who will be the presenting author of eitherposter or oral contributions may apply. Note thatsupplementary information is required to describe themotivation for the research, significance of the researchresults and the applicant's contribution to the work beingpresented. A brief letter of support from the student'sadvisor is also required, and should be submitted alongwith the digest. Up to five (5) finalists will be selectedbased on accepted digests and the supplementaryinformation. Only the finalists will receive notification

from the selection committee. The winner will beselected at the conference by the Student BestPresentation Award subcommittee, and announced soonafter the close of the conference. The award consists of afellowship of $1500 and certificate for the winner, and a$250 fellowship and certificate for the remainingfinalists.

    Exhibits

Exhibits of related services, equipment, materials, software, technical journals and books will be held as apart of the 2012 INTERMAG Conference. Individuals

and organizations interested in purchasing booth spaceshould contact the Exhibits Coordinator, Wendy Walkerat [email protected]. The Exhibitor Prospectuswill be available on the web site in November 2011.

    Visa

All applications for Canadian visas are approved by theCitizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) bureau. Weadvise all scientists traveling to Canada to check theirvisa requirements and apply for a visa as early aspossible. For more detailed information see the CIC

webpage http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp. Itis advised that you check with your local Canadianconsulate or embassy as soon as possible to find outwhat the earliest date is that you can apply for a visa andto schedule an appointment. For special assistance, e.g., invitation letters, pleasecontact the conference manager, Diane Melton [email protected] .
