40YEARS LATER:REMEMBRANCE OF THE COUP DTAT

Memory is a collective action performed in the present. Through our current practices, located in

specific social and political contexts, we endow diverse significance and affections to our past. The

versions of the past that struggle into becoming the truth of what occurred are multiple, and

establish remembrance as a conflicted field.

The purpose of this dossier is to gather and meditate around the plurality of voices that after 40

years of the Coup dtat in Chile, from different social positions, have reconstructed our recent past,

analyzed it and debated around it.

We invite to write about such processes that are directly or indirectly related to the Coup dtat, the

dictatorship and the transition to democracy. We also seek to develop a debate around the concepts

used in the course of understanding, not only of our dictatorial past, but also of other societies that

    have lived violent political conflicts.
