Volunteers’ morning tea
It was lovely to see so many school helpers at our thank you morning
tea today. School staff and students are so appreciative of the time you
give to our school. Your generous gifts of time and service contribute to
the quality of schooling we can provide and role model the importance
of community service.
It is with interest that I read that volunteering at your local school
under the auspices of the local P & C now qualifies as Centrelink hours.
Previously, volunteering at your child’s school did not count for this
purpose and was a deterrent to helping. If this has been a barrier for
you, I would encourage you to seek more information from our P & C
executive and perhaps consider helping in 2013. School staff will be
happy to increase our baking efforts to ensure that the 2013 Helpers
Morning Tea is huge!
High school orientation day
Yesterday, most of our Year 6 students attended Kincumber High
School’s Orientation Day and had a great time. There was some
confusion about the start of day arrangements and just a few children
presented at school rather than meet at the high school as advised.
I am sorry that this arrangement was somewhat unclear, especially for
those parents for whom it was their first child to attend high school. To
ensure that it is clear for 2013, I have posted information about High
School Orientation Day on our website under School Years/Year 6/
Transition. This information will also be provided next year before the
day.
Transition day
To take advantage of the fact that most of our year 6 students were at
Kincumber High School yesterday, our Kinder to Year 5 students and
new enrolments had a chance to experience their 2013 classes.
Children went to their proposed new class with their 2013 classmates.
Teachers and 2013 class groups worked together for the morning
session and get a taste of the change they will experience when school
starts for them next year. For many students and parents, this is a
great way to avoid the vacation anxiety. This year we found that school
teachers and children could begin learning from the first day of school
as they were very prepared.
Teachers will adjust class groupings where necessary this week and finalise organistion. Unless a large number of students enrol or leave at
the beginning of next year, there should be no variations to the set
classes we have formed.

Class Item 2A - Highlights and Memories of 2012
Some of our favourite memories are of when we went on
excursions, like the Sydney excursion and when we learned about dinosaurs. Before the dinosaurs we did the swimming
carnival and the athletics carnival. Jack, Lucas and Mark
Some of my favourite memories of this year are of when we
went on the overnight excursion. I loved learning about ‘Our Fleeting Past’ and also learning about dinosaurs. I loved being
in 2A but I can’t wait to be in 3W. Sammy
This year I ran in the cross-country and made it to the regionals. I also ran 40km. Rowan
This year’s highlight to me was the Rumbalara excursion and
the overnight excursion. Ethan
We loved going on the excursion for two days and learning about history, doing sport with the whole stage, having an
awesome teacher called Mrs Armstrong and being with all our
friends. Kate and Natalia
Some of our favourite memories are : playing with Lucas, Mark and each other; Stage 2 sport; the sleepover excursion to
Naamaroo, Lane Cove; the athletics carnival; the excursion to Rumbalara. Daniel and Kyte
Some highlights for me are the overnight excursion, the
athletics carnival, cross-country and going to Girrakool National Park. I also liked doing a diorama with my friends.
During my time in Stage 2, I have made some amazing new friends. My favourite thing about Stage 2 was having
Mrs Armstrong. Anya
The sleepover trip was awesome and the food was amazing.
The Rumbalara trip was fun and we got to taste native grapes and native poppers. Dinosaur literacy is so much fun and
exciting and gets you creative! Mrs Armstrong was a great teacher. It was fun making more friends. Amy and Katie
My favourite highlight of the year was the overnight sleepover
in Sydney because we got to sleep with our friends. I also liked the dinosaur theme in Term 4. I am looking forward to the end
of year excursion to the movies. Ellie
Our favourite memories of the year were when we went with our friends on the overnight excursion, the Year 3s getting to
start primary sport and Year 4s making new friends with Year 3s. Mikayla, Holly and Allie
This year I have enjoyed doing new sports, making new friends and going on the Sydney excursion. I am looking forward to
the end of year excursion. I have also enjoyed having Mrs Armstrong as a teacher. Sarah
We loved: dinosaur literacy activities, Rumbalara, cartooning
and the overnight sleepover! We also have had a great year with Mrs Armstrong. We have been learning about dinosaurs
this term, so all the teachers in Stage 2 organised us to do dinosaur literacy. Jordana and Juliet
The highlights of our year were: having Mrs Armstrong as our
teacher and making awesome new friends. We also liked going on the overnight excursion and learning about dinosaurs. We
are looking forward to the talent quest and our end of year
movie excursion. This year rocked! Tyla, Megan and Laura
It was fun going on an overnight excursion, sharing jokes with friends and making some new ones. Also, having Mrs
Armstrong as a teacher. Hayden, Jye and Riley
Ella’s favourite thing this year was the two-day excursion. We all loved it. Caitlin’s favourite thing was sport. Our class did
primary and class sport with 2C. We love ‘Over the River’. Layla’s favourite thing was having Mrs Armstrong as the
teacher. We all liked her. Ella, Caitlin and Layla
From the principal continued;
Presentation Evening I am looking forward to next Monday night’s presentation evening and celebrating the excellent achievements of our
school, its teachers and students. The school leaders have been working hard on my speech – the third year that students have
done this! It is very interesting to see what perspective the children have of our successes and how they use this to develop a speech.
Congratulations to everyone who is receiving a class or major
award next Monday evening. The signwriter has been engaged to write names of major award winners on the honour board on Tuesday after they have been announced at Presentation
Evening.
Playground and hall upgrade
Our long awaited playground markings were completed on the
asphalt today. Lex from Art by LJ painted multiple handball
courts, a cricket pitch and a variety of colourful and active
playground games like hopscotch on the playground area next to
the gas tank. We were lucky to have received a grant that helped
to pay for the painting and the playground looks stunning!
Thanks Mr Smith for organising this.
Thank you also to the P & C who contributed $4000 to our Fun
Run fundraising to enable the first stage of our hall sound system upgrade to be completed yesterday. Many thanks to Donna Judd
who had oversight of the whole project, including obtaining quotes, presenting at P & C meetings and using her stage management expertise to guide our spending.
With a successful Fun Run next year, we may be able to
complete the lighting upgrade component of the project in time for our school performance early in term 3.
Hope you had a great week at our great school!

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE - ERINA FAIR
Kincumber Public School is once again supporting the ‘Community Christmas Tree’ event.
Students from KL/W and 3K have made and decorated a
Christmas Tree that is now on display at Erina Fair.
Let’s help support our tree and raise funds for the Cancer Council of New South Wales. Voting is by a gold coin
donation and you can find our tree located between Rebel Sport and K Mart.
Thank you Lisa Wicks
STUDENT BANKING
Thank you Wendy Shadbolt (Ethan 1T) for being our
“Banking Mum” this year. Each Friday Wendy takes the student banking to the Westpac Bank at Kincumber and
then brings the bankbooks back to school.
Without Wendy’s help we would not be able to provide this service to KPS students. If you would like your child to
bank next year please call in at the Westpac Kincumber branch to apply. (Please note - you need to take a birth
certificate with you).

KINCUMBER PUBLIC SCHOOL
REVERSE CHRISTMAS TREE
The Christmas tree is up in the foyer and looking fantastic! This year, as in past years, we are asking Kincumber Public School families to donate an unperishable grocery item or gift
to less fortunate families on the Central Coast.
Kincumber families have always been very generous with donations to help people who would not otherwise be able to, to have a special Christmas. Please make sure any grocery
items have not passed their “use-by” date and that they are something that you would like on your Christmas table.
Thank you in anticipation of a magnificent response. K-2 children may wish to bring their gift/grocery item to school on
Wednesday 12 December (their Christmas assembly day) and give it direct to a “very special person in red” who will be
visiting the classrooms that afternoon.
