Legislative Visits
Your facility is probably all spruced up for the Holidays! What a great time to show it
off!!!
NOW would be a great time to invite your State Senator and Representative and local
officials to your facility, especially if you have newly elected representatives. Invite them
over to meet with you, your residents, families and staff. Tell them what you do. Show
them whom you care for. Explain to them the difficulties you have to overcome to
deliver the care your residents expect and deserve. YOU are the experts! Offer your
assistance to them for the upcoming legislative session. YOU can do this!
Need help? Matt ([email protected]) and Rick ([email protected]) are here to
assist.
Thanks.

HealthCare Heroes Awards Luncheon
Matt and Rick were invited to attend the HealthCare Heroes Awards Luncheon Tuesday
as guests of the Connecticut Culture Change Coalition (CTCCC) Steering Committee.
CTCCC was a Finalist in one of the Award categories, and although they didn't win their
category, they were certainly worthy of the recognition.

DHHS OIG
From our friends at the Office of the Inspector General, Department of Health and
Human Services:
Exclusions
LEIE Database Updated with November 2014 Exclusions and Reinstatements
http://go.usa.gov/VYsP
The updated List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) database file
reflects all OIG exclusion and reinstatement actions up to, and including, those
taken in Novvember 2014. This updated LEIE is a complete database file
containing all exclusions now in effect. Individuals and entities reinstated to
Federal health care programs are not included in this file.
Please note that LEIE files that do not contain the National Provider Identifier
(NPI), Waiver, and Waiver States fields are no longer available.
OIG archives only monthly supplement files for the previous 12 months. Older
material is no longer available on the website or via phone call to Exclusions
staff, although the Downloadable LEIE gives users the latest information on
excluded individuals or entities.
OIG has added NPIs to LEIE records starting in 2008. Please note that not every
individual or entity that is excluded has an NPI to add. Therefore, many records
will not include information in the NPI field.

AHCA/NCAL - ICD-10 Webinars
From our friends at the American Health Care Association (AHCA/NCAL):
Please join us on Dec. 5, 2014, 2:00PM, ET, for the first webinar in a 2-part
series entitled, ICD-10 Team Preparation: Are you Ready?, with HCPro expert,
Diane L. Brown, BA, CPRA, where you will learn:
• Diagnosis Coding Basics
• Scope of ICD-10 Implementation
• Managing ICD-10 Transition Issues
The overall purpose of this webinar is to assist SNFs in understanding the ICD-
10 basics, as well as some of the specifics of coding in the LTC environment.
Although the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has provided
numerous training sessions to hospitals and physicians over the last several
years; it has not provided any specific ICD-10 training to SNF organizations and
staff. Now is the time for SNFs to prepare for the ICD-10 system; and it involves
planning, calculating the scope of work, determining timing and the learning
“curve,” and securing an adequate budget to accomplish the task. Recognizing
the consequences of and improving the choices SNFs make as we approach the
ICD-10 transition is the focus of this webinar. Some SNFs may have already
begun the preparation process; but some still have some work to do to meet the
new transition deadline of Oct. 1, 2015. This webinar will prove invaluable to
those of you looking for concrete ICD-10 direction and instruction now.
REGISTER NOW at http://webinars.ahcancal.org/session.php?id=14943.
Further, mark your calendar now for Dec. 11, 2014, at 2:00PM, ET, when we’ve
scheduled the second webinar in this series, Is Your ICD-10 Coding Accurate?
Diane Brown will again be leading this discussion; but this time the discussion
will focus on:
• ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines
• Using the Index and Tables
• Selecting Proper Code from the Index
REGISTER NOW at http://webinars.ahcancal.org/session.php?id=14944.
Prior to each webinar, we encourage you to go on AHCA’s website at
http://www.ahcapublications.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=8296
and purchase ICD-10 Essentials for Long-Term Care: Your Guide to Preparation
and Implementation, by Karen L. Fabrizion, RHIA, CPRA. This manual will help
greatly as you listen and participate in the upcoming AHCA webinars.

AHCA/NCAL - Independent Owners Webinar
From our friends at the American Health Care Association (AHCA/NCAL):
Good day IO Council members,
I would like to make you aware of a webinar coming up specifically for
Independent Owners. Below please find the dates, descriptions and registration
information. I hope you will make plans to attend as well as share this
information with the IOs in your state and your state executives.
SNF Re-hospitalization Program – Independent Owners Preparing for
Implementation
December 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM EST (90 minutes)
http://webinars.ahcancal.org/session.php?id=14836
The Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 (H.R. 4302; Pub.L. 113–93)
included several important provisions for the skilled nursing center industry. Of
key importance is a re-hospitalization program. The Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid (CMS) will withhold two percent of Medicare fee-for-services payments
to skilled nursing centers. In turn, skilled nursing centers will be able to receive
these withheld funds by meeting CMS and industry agreed to facility-specific re-
hospitalization rates.
Learning Objectives:
1. Basics of the SNF Re-Hospitalization Program
2. Ideas for Preparation Including Use of Long Term Care Trend Tracker
3. Information on How Some Members Are Preparing for Implementation
Please let me know what questions you have. I am happy to be helpful.
Sincerely,
