Term 2 Week 10 4 th July 2019 Caddies Creek PubliC sChool Dear Parents, There will be a lot of maintenance going on at Caddies over the school holidays. Six classrooms have been identified as requiring painting (1S, 1M, 1W, 2O, 4M and 4R) and, as I mentioned last week, work will begin on the long-awaited refurbishment of the boys’ demountable toilets. The work on the toilets will probably go into Term Three, so for the first week or so our little gentlemen will need to use the toilets near the hall or Kindergarten rooms. And if it’s needed in class time, please emphasise to your son to give the teacher a little bit more notice because they will have further to travel! I mentioned last term that from time to time we have practices for emergency situations so that should an actual emergency occur, the students and adults would know what to do in a (semi) calm manner. In Term One we had a lock-down, where students and teachers stayed in their classrooms. Early next term will be a practice for an evacuation, where students and staff assemble in areas outside their classrooms. So if you do hear different bells on our return, you’ll know what it’s about. We have had some very exciting results in the soccer state-wide knockout competitions. It was a double header last Monday with both the boys’ and girls’ teams playing. The boys went down by the narrowest of margins to Clemton Park Public School. At the end of extra time both teams had three goals apiece, but Clemton Park went through as they had more corner kicks. The boys were shattered, but they worked so hard and I was immensely proud of their “never say die” attitude. The girls played Henry Fulton Public School and after being locked at nil-all at half time, the Caddies girls sneaked one past the keeper in the second session and won 1-0. Awesome work girls! They have now qualified for the semi-finals in this area and will play Marton Public School on Monday 29 th July. As I have said before, we are quite selective about the charities which we support, because there are so many around. To support them all would be impossible, as much as we would like to. Coming up is one that is close to our hearts – Beanies for Brain Cancer. On Thursday, 1 st August we encourage students and adults to wear a beanie to school with a gold coin donation. More information later in the Chronicle. Everyone in beanies a bald man’s paradise! I mentioned Mr Roberts’ coaching prowess last week. His Sydney West Open Rugby League team made it to the grand final and were unfortunately beaten 14-10 by the Hunter in, by all accounts, a closely contested and highly skilful game. Congratulations Mr Roberts! And so we come to the end of Term Two, which has been another massive term. We are officially half way through the year. Where did that time go? Term Three will be just as busy, but hopefully just as satisfying. If you are have any time off during the school holidays, I hope it is restful and warm! Students resume Tuesday, 23 rd July. Dear Parents,

There will be a lot of maintenance going on at Caddies over the school holidays. Six classrooms have been identified as requiring painting (1S, 1M, 1W, 2O, 4M and 4R) and, as I mentioned last week, work will begin on the long-awaited refurbishment of the boys’ demountable toilets. Senior Constable John Bollard

Last Thursday, Constable Bollard visited Years 3-6 to speak to us about Cyber safety. He informed us about the dangers of being online and how to avoid being affected by Cyberbullying. Constable Bollard provided us with valuable information on how to use the internet safely so that it can be used in a positive way. He gave us true stories as scenarios to clearly explain the events which could occur if we don’t use the internet safely. If we all follow these simple rules, the internet can be very helpful.

Debating Last Thursday the Year 6 Debating team were the affirmative in the debate ‘We should stop selling bottled water’. Caddies Creek had a fabulous win against Rouse Hill Public School. Congratulations to the Year 6 team.

The Year 5 Team have their final debate, with the topic ‘A tax on foods high in sugar and fat is helpful’. Caddies Creek are the negative in this debate and will be debating against Beaumont Hills next term. Good luck to the Year 5 team.

Beanies for Brain Cancer! This year our Beanie day for Brain Cancer will take place on Thursday 1st of August. All you have to do is wear a beanie and bring in a gold coin donation.

Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children, and adults aged under 40 in Australia, yet alarmingly very little is known about brain cancer, its causes or how it is treated! Approximately 1200 Australians die of Brain Cancer each year.

Brain cancer receives less than 5% of all Federal Government Cancer research funding. Thanks to you, since 2014 the Beanie for Brain Cancer campaign has raised over $10M.

This is a very special charity for me personally as in August 2016 my family lost my husband David aged 41, to an undiagnosed Brain Tumour. It was very sudden and he had been symptom free. Our family as we knew it was changed forever. David had a love of football and was a lifelong fan of the Parramatta Eels so this Charity is a perfect one to support.

This is our third Beanie Day, I am so proud of all the donations that Caddies Creek have already raised, let’s see if we can beat last year’s donation.

P&C News Uniform Pool: Thank you to all who donated to the second-hand uniform pool. We are so pleased to be able to offer this service to the school community. It was great to see so many people coming to buy a bargain and in turn supporting the P&C. Friday afternoon’s sale resulted in a profit of $864.10 all of which will be invested in resources for the school.

Don’t leave it to the last minute! Tables went on sale last week and we are blown away with the response we have had already. Make sure you get in before they sell out.

Get your thinking caps on!!! The P&C Trivia night is on Saturday 3rd August 2019 and that’s only 4 weeks away! A separate note was sent home last week with details about the night including how you can book and pay for your seats / tables. If you missed out on receiving one there are extra forms in the front office.

Please note this is an Adults Only event with no one under 18 years of age allowed to attend so please book in someone to watch the kids. It’s bring your own drinks and nibbles, alcohol is permitted.

We have had a great response from our wonderful community by way of donations.

Do you have or do you know anyone that would be willing to donate a service or products to our Trivia Night Silent Auction, Not only would you be supporting the P&C, but we in turn will be recognizing local businesses that provide donations and are happy to publicize

your business too. It can be a great way to get your name out there to the local community. If you would like to make a donation or have any questions about the Trivia Night, please email [email protected] Thank you!

Thank you to our Caddies parents and our broader community for all your ongoing help and support this term. We are quietly preparing for a fun filled term 3. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for announcements. You can search for our page CCPSPCEvents or use this link www.facebook.com/CCPSPCEvents

Enjoy the break!
