Horizon Aviation is Open for Business!Horizon Aviation is a newly formed avionics installation, repair and troubleshooting facility based at KCCB aimed at providing both Cable Airport tenants and transient customers top notch avionics service.

The owner of Horizon Aviation is Caleb Greene. Caleb has always had a passion for aviation which began early on as a child. He is an Army Veteran of 6 years and of those 6 years, he has traveled the globe as an AH-64 Apache helicopter mechanic with two tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. He has also spent parts of his military career in other countries such as Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, and Italy.

Caleb has been involved with General Aviation maintenance and avionics since 2014. He has received certifications from the Aircraft Electronics Association which include Advanced Avionics Installations, ADS-B implementation, RVSM training, Pitot-Static and Advanced Transponder Training.

The goal of Horizon Aviation is to bring to Cable Airport a one stop, full service avionics sales and installation facility. He is currently working on a Part 145 Repair Station certification to become a dealer of avionics manufacturers such as Garmin, L-3, Appareo, Aspen, uAvionix… etc and to perform biennial Pitot-Static and Transponder certifications.

Please feel free to drop by and pay Horizon Aviation a visit in hangar 204. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

2019 Cable Air Show to Remain on HiatusThe 2018 Cable Air Show was canceled due to scheduled construction which hasn't taken place. Then we lost Maniac Mike Stewart who chaired the Cable Air Show committee and we lost Maniac-Mikes Cafe. And if that wasn't enough, the landowner to the south of the Airport canceled the lease agreement that allowed us to use that property for overflow parking.Needless to say, there is too much going on around the Airport that would allow us to be effective hosts to the community come January 2019; therefore, the 2019 Cable Air Show will not happen. Cable will wait to see the progress on the Cafe and the apron project before making any determination on whether or not to proceed with a show in 2020... Cable Airport's 75th anniversary.

Elk River Aviation... the End of an EraOn September 27, 2018, Elk River Aviation, which was owned by Kent Wilson who passed away in 2017, gave up its last space at CCB. A tenant for over 25 years, Elk River occupied almost 18,000 square feet of enclosed space and 33,000 square feet of apron space. This made Mr. Wilson CCB's largest customer in terms of space occupied and rent paid.Over the last few months, Elk River employees cleared out the numerous spaces they occupied consolidating items from some of the buildings into what is known as the "paint shop". And when they were finished consolidating, they began to liquidate items including aircraft. Stories quickly emerged that aircraft in pieces were selling for a few hundred dollars. Slowly but surely the items disappeared. What will become of the space? Airport staff will be meeting to discuss any outstanding maintenance issues on the buildings and potential uses for the space. As always, a use that serves general aviation will be a top priority.

Do you have stories and photos that you would like to share with the Cable community via the the Cable Gram and the Cable website? Or do you have an idea for a story? If so, contact Annette at [email protected] and tell us what you have. We are always looking for fun items to share with our family here at Cable Airport!

We would like to hear from you...

You may or may have not noticed individuals in florescent safety vests periodically wandering around the apron south of the runway over the past few weeks. Cable Airport engineers have been hard at working finalizing he requirements necessary to obtain permits from the City. These permits must be in place before the Airport can put the project out to bid.The good news is the FAA knows our project is about ready to begin which has elevated our project among the many projects the FAA considers each year. Airport staff will be meeting with the FAA on October 16th and our goal is to be ready to proceed with our project. Should the Federal budget be passed in its normal time frame, Cable expects to get the green light to put the project out to bid with dirt moving by the end of 2018.

Rehabilitation of Apron Project Status

Vehicle Storage and ParkingDemand for vehicle storage, particularly recreational vehicles (RVs), is very high in this region. And since the Airport has customers renting vehicle storage and parking, word of mouth spread that storage space is available at Cable Airport. Add to that the fact that there is quite a bit of open space on the Airport grounds, it seemed natural that the Airport would want to maximize revenue and get as many vehicle storage customers as we can. Unfortunately, what started has a convenience for a few tenants blossomed into a full-time job answering calls for RV parking/storage. In fact, it is estimated calls for RV parking outnumbered the calls for hangar space (for aircraft) by 3 to 1. It reached a point where Cable staff and family members had to address the issue. It was concluded that Cable is an airport first and foremost and that Dewey wanted to be an airport not an RV storage facility; therefore, Cable no longer offers vehicle storage to non-tenants. Vehicle storage for tenants will only be made available if there is space in a designated area.In an effort to clean up Airport property, tenants that are parking their RVs in an area on the Airport that is not in the areas marked in red below, will be asked to move to a designated spot as they become available. Additionally, the owners of vehicles that are not currently licensed and insured will be asked to remove those vehicles from the Airport grounds.
