Chapter 1: Introduction 7

Chapter 1: Introduction

This document provides instructions on how to successfully deploy CA SDM 12.9 and CA Service Catalog 12.9 with Oracle RAC.

This section contains the following topics:

Prerequisites Deploy CA SDM and CA Service Catalog with Oracle RAC Install CA SDM MDB Using the Command Line Utility Configure CA SDM with Oracle RAC Configure CA Service Catalog with Oracle RAC Verifying the Oracle RAC Status CA SDM and CA Service Catalog Known Issues with Oracle RAC

Prerequisites

Ensure to verify and complete the following installation prerequisites:

■ Download Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.3.0 or above) (Oracle Grid infrastructure and database) software from Oracle Downloads. Complete the Oracle RAC Installation Prerequisites. For more information, see Oracle Documentation.

■ The Single Client Access Name (SCAN) should be defined in the DNS or GNS and round-robin between one of the three IP addresses, which are on the same subnet as the public and virtual IP addresses.

■ The virtual machines can be limited to 2GB of swap but will result in a prerequisite install check failure. To avoid this, define 3+ GB of swap.

■ This installation requires 64-bit version of Windows Server and Oracle 11g Release 2 and Create the Oracle database (SID) using ASM.

Install CA SDM MDB Using the Command Line Utility

Chapter 1: Introduction 9

Install CA SDM MDB Using the Command Line Utility

Install the CA SDM MDB on a virtual machine or any available systems.

Note: Install JRE 1.5 or above on a system where CA SDM MDB will be installed.

Follow these steps:

1. Download CA Service Desk Manager (SDM) from CA Support Download Center.

2. Open the command prompt and navigate to the following directory:

<downloaded_location>\casd.nt\MDB\ORACLE

Here <downloaded_location> is the CA SDM downloaded DVD1 location.

3. Now run the setup mdb using the following syntax:

setupmdb -DBVENDOR=oracle -JRE_DIR=<JRE_PATH> -DBHOST

<SCAN_HOST_NAME> -DBNAME=<ORACLE_SID> -DBUSER=SYS -

DBPASSWORD=<SYS_Password> -

ORA_TBLSPACE_PATH=<Shared_Drive_PATH> -

MDB_ADMIN_PSWD=<mdb_admin_password> -DBDRIVER=Service_Desk -

WORKSPACE=Service_Desk

For Example:

setupmdb -DBVENDOR=oracle -

JRE_DIR=C:\Eclipse\CA\SC\JRE\1.7.0_10 -DBHOST sdmw2k8-scan -

DBNAME=mdb -DBUSER=SYS -DBPASSWORD=N0tallowed

ORA_TBLSPACE_PATH=+DATA -MDB_ADMIN_PSWD=N0tallowed -

DBDRIVER=Service_Desk -WORKSPACE=Service_Desk

Configure CA SDM with Oracle RAC

Note: Oracle 32-bit client is mandatory for CA SDM installation.

Follow these steps:

1. Use the Oracle 11gr2 32 bit client software for CA SDM installation.

2. Create a TNS entry on a system where you are planning to install CA SDM.

3. Enable client-side connect-time Failover by setting FAILOVER=ON in the corresponding client side TNS entry:

TESTRAC =

(DESCRIPTION =

(ADDRESS_LIST=

(FAILOVER = ON)

(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = scan_host_name)(PORT =

1521))

)

(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = mdb))

)

4. Enter the database host name <SCAN_HOST_NAME> in the CA SDM database configuration window.

5. Complete the CA SDM installation.

Note: For more information about CA SDM Installation procedures, see the CA Service Desk Manager Implementation Guide.

Configure CA Service Catalog with Oracle RAC

To configure CA Service Catalog with Oracle RAC database, enter the database host name <SCAN_HOST_NAME>,”+DATA” on the Tablespace Path text box in the CA Service Catalog Setup Utility. Follow instructions in the CA Service Catalog documentation for information on how to use the CA Service Catalog - Setup Utility.

Verifying the Oracle RAC Status

12 Deploying the Products with Oracle RAC

Verifying the Oracle RAC Status

You can verify the Oracle RAC database status using the following commands:

1. To know and verify the database status on an Oracle RAC instance, enter the following command:

srvctl status database -d <DB_NAME>

Example: srvctl status database -d mdb

2. To Stop the Oracle RAC instance service, enter:

srvctl stop instance -d <DB_NAME> -i <DB_INSTANCE>

Example : srvctl stop instance -d mdb -i mdb1

3. To start the Oracle RAC instance service:

srvctl start instance -d <DB_NAME> -i <DB_INSTANCE>

Example: srvctl start instance -d mdb -i mdb1

CA SDM and CA Service Catalog Known Issues with Oracle RAC

The following known issues are reported when you configure CA SDM and CA Service Catalog with the Oracle RAC database:

1. SDM Known Issues:

a. Unable to create MDB_DATA and MDB_INDEX tablespace files in Oracle RAC shared location using the CA SDM MDB. For workaround, refer to Install CA SDM MDB Using the Command Line Utility.

b. Few delay response pages are not converted to proper CA SDM pages during the fail over of Oracle Node. Errors are logged in the std log file.

2. CA Service Catalog Known Issues:

a. Error message is displayed instead of requests list on requests page during the fail over of Oracle nodes.
