What Is Lithium? Lithium is a soft, silver-white metal. It belongs to the alkali metal group of the
chemical elements. Lithium is the softest metal and the least
dense solid. Lithium is highly reactive and flammable. Lithium is also used in batteries.
History Lithium was discovered as an element in
1817. Lithium was first used for the treatment
of Mania, in 1817. Lithium Carbonate was created as a pill
to prevent depression. Lithium was also used for treatment on
bipolar disorder.
