The Story of Hydropower and Natural Gas
By: Kaylee Walters and Turner Castleberry
Hydroelectric Power
Natural Gas
Important Details Hydropower Natural GasHuman use falling water
to produce electricity.Its renewable because
water constantly cycles from water sources, to air, to land, and back.
It has been used for thousands of years.
It is used in some gases for cars.
It’s a nonrenewable energy source because it is formed from the remains of organisms.
It was found deep in the earths surface in the 1800s.
How is this energy source used in present day?Hydropower Natural Gas1. Dams 2. Water wheels3. Reservoirs4. Falling water5. Power plants
1. Cooking and Heating2. Most Households 3. Oil and Gas4. Pipeline Fuel 5. Vehicle Fuel
Pros Hydropower Natural GasIts inexpensive and causes
little pollution. The time for a Hydropower
station to shut down and restart is way shorter.
Hydropower is undoubtedly the most widely used form of renewable energy.
The installation can be beneficial for fish breeding.
The stations generate energy for years.
Causes less air pollution than oil.
Its easy to transport. It is a cleaner burning
energy source.Its becoming
increasingly popular.Its about 40% less
pollutant than other fossil fuels.
Cons Hydropower Natural Gas It could reduce the demand
for fossil fuels.Often destroys other wildlife
resources like forests. The need for a large enough
reservoir is limited. There is always a risk that the
reservoir could give away at the event of an unexpected heavy rainfall.
Droughts can have a severe adverse impact on hydropower generation.
Natural gas is very flammable.
It can lead to fires or deadly explosions.
Transportation is easy but, expensive.
Its a limited source. It takes miles of pipeline
to transport.
