IssueIMP

From the vast beaches in Okinawa to the beautiful Buddhist temples of Kyoto, Japan is a beautiful country, but air pollution is affecting its people. Air pollution is a growing problem in Japan and the death rate is 40% higher than it was in 1990. With even more coal burning power plants being established in Tokyo, studies show that these plants will cause 260 pre mature deaths every year.

Exactly what is air pollution? Air pollution by definition is the presence in or introduction into the air of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects. The air pollution that we cause is primarily a result from burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, natural gas and gasoline for electricity and power. Air pollution is measured by carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and other contaminate levels in the air. Air pollution has harmful effects including global warming and premature death.

With more than 23,000 pre mature deaths in Japan caused by air pollution, air pollution is a cause for concern. Not only does air

pollution cause death, but it can also lead to lung and heart problems over time. Air pollution effects the everyday life of those living in japan as well. With a population of 9 million people living in Tokyo alone, many days the people need to wear masks to protect them from the harmful pollutants in the air. Air pollution can even cause low birth weights. With a decline in birth rates in Japan air pollution can have a harmful effect on the population over time. Air pollution is a serious problem in Japan and is growing every day.

Air pollution does not only effect the people of Japan, it effects the entire world. With Global warming increasing in an alarming rate, not only does a solution benefit Japan, it benefits the entire world. Decreasing air pollution Japan will also lower the amount of air- pollution related deaths per year and create a healthier way of life.

In conclusion, Air pollution is a growing problem that needs to be addressed. By creating clean energy projects in Japan, the Clean Energy Crew of Japan can help reduce the harmful effects of air pollution.

Non- ProfitIMP

The Solution

To reduce air pollution in Japan, Japan needs to use cleaner energy sources. An organization that could help reduce Japans growing air pollution problem is a nonprofit.

Non- Profit Name Clean Air Crew of Japan (CACJ)

Mission Statement

The Clean Air Crew of Japan’s Mission is to reduce air-pollution by promoting the use of clean energy and technologies in the country of Japan.

What We Do

The Clean Air Crew of Japan will promote the use of clean energy and technologies. To do this, CACJ will help with creating renewable energy projects around the country with the help of donations and also the profit of water bottles by partnering with the Guangzhou Haoju Commodity Co. The CACJ will also give presentations across the country to schools and businesses on how to reduce air- pollution in the country. Volunteers can help promote the CACJ. Hopefully with the help of the CACJ, air pollution in Japan will reduce and cleaner energy sources will be used.

Ways You Can Help

Donate Money- To help the CACJ promote clean energy use, donations will help with starting clean energy project.

CACJ and Kyocera would mutually benefit each other, because CACJ can help promote Kyocera, and Kyocera can help create more solar cells and modules to create cleaner energy.Tokyo Electric and Power Company would benefit from CACJ with the promotion of their company, and CACJ would benefit from creating Hydroelectric Power Plants to have clean energy, lowering air pollution.

Geographical Setting IMP

From the vast beaches in Okinawa to the beautiful Buddhist temples of Kyoto, Japan has endless tourist attractions. According to the Japan National Tourism Organization an estimated 1.85 million people visited Japan in the year 2016. With the great amount of people visiting Japan each year, there are many business opportunities. Japan’s location, climate, and topography, make it a great place to take advantage of those business opportunities.

The island nation of Japan is situated off the eastern edge of Asia, with China, South Korea and North Korea as its neighbors. Japan is also surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Okhotsk, the East China Sea, and the Sea of Japan. As a result of being surrounded by water, the easiest way to export and import items to and from the country is ocean freight. Shipping by ocean freight gives businesses the opportunity to ship more while also having a lower carbon emission compared to air or ground shipping. Shipping within the country itself would be ground or air shipping to minimize time of shipping within the country.

The weather in Japan is generally temperate, with four seasons. December to February is Japan’s winter. In the winter, Japans Pacific Coast has moderate temperatures and the temperature rarely drops below 32 degrees. Moving north, the temperature changes and Japan experiences snowfall. With snowfall, Japan has many Skiers, and snowboarders that visit.

March to May is Japan’s spring. During Japan’s spring the temperature is in the 50’s and the famous Japanese Cherry blossoms bloom. During spring, many festivals occur bringing in many tourists. Summer begins in June and ends in August. During Summer Japan has temperatures in the 90’s and experiences a rainy season. During the rainy season, farmers plant their rice crops for future use and trading. Autumn are the months of September thru November. During autumn, temperatures range from 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Also many exhibitions, concerts, and

sports tournaments are held during autumn. Moderate temperatures throughout the seasons, make it easy for year round product exporting and shipping. It may be difficult during the winter to ship products throughout the country because of the snow fall and the mountainous terrain that covers 75 percent of the archipelago. Although the winter may pose a problem with shipping, the four seasons bring great business opportunities.

As talked about before in the previous section, mountainous terrain covers 75 percent of Japan. The rugged and steep area of Japan means that, geographically speaking, Japan is a young country. Two mountain rages Hida (or Japan Alps) and the Akaishi Mountains, run through the central part of Honshu running in a north- south direction. Japan has 265 volcanoes including the highest mountain in Japan, Mt. Fuji. There are very few Plains in Japan. Japans flat land only covers about 29 percent of the entire archipelago. In these limited, flat areas, the population is heavily concentrated. The rivers in Japan are mostly small and short. The longest river is the Shinano River in north-central Honshu, flowing into the Sea of Japan. Japan also has 29 lakes including Lake Kussharo, located in the Akan National Park of Hokkaido. Lake Kussharo is considered the clearest lake in the world, having a transparency of 135 ft. Even with a more mountainous terrain, Japan’s topography allows for many different tourist activities and business opportunities to take place.

Geographically, Japan has everything a business owner could want. From the vast beaches in Okinawa, to the beautiful Buddhist temples in Kyoto, there are many different businesses that can be established and thrive. The geography of Japan makes it a great country to export many

goods and also ship throughout the country. Time is money, so don’t waste time thinking about whether you should start a business, and start making money now.

Geographical Benefits Famous Japanese Cherry Blossom Trees bring in thousands of tourists during the spring Japan is an archipelago, making ocean freight a great way to export products across the

world. Mountainous terrain brings in thousand for snow activities and hiking activities. During each season, there are many activities that occur such as music festivals, sports

tournaments, and exhibitions.

A parliamentary government with a constitutional monarchy

Description

Japan is a multi-party parliamentary representative democratic constitutional monarchy. This means that Japans Emperor who is now Akihito, acts as a symbolic head of state, while the Prime Minister who is currently Shinzō Abe, is the head of the government and head of the Cabinet. He directs the Executive branch. Japan is also socialist. Japan has many companies that are run by the government such as Hokkaido Railway Company and Japan Post Holdings. Japan can also be categorized as capitalist. After the economic collapse in the 1990’s v Japan has changed its system and has allowed more of the United States management style of capitalism with restructuring to lay off workers when production is low.

Economic Statistics and Activity

Japan has an economy that is the third- largest in the world by nominal GDP (gross domestic production) and fourth in PPP (Purchasing Power Party).

Resources

Renewable- The off shore floating wind turbines in Fukushima, Japan are used to help replace the nuclear power that was produced before the earthquake in 2011. Now that Japan no longer uses nuclear energy the wind turbines are used for thermal and electricity purposes.

Photovoltaic systems are also used in Japan. Photovoltaic systems are panels that absorb the suns energy and convert it into renewable energy. After The earthquake in 2011, renewable resources are being used to replace nuclear energy.

Geothermal resources are also growing in Japan. Geothermal energy is energy derived from the heat of the earth. The current geothermal capacity stands at 17 facilities, which generate 520,000 kW in total. Problems with Scarcity

Essential resources that Japan lacks include fossil fuels, especially petroleum. Japan also lacks lumber, pulp, paper, and other wood products. Most of Japans natural resources are imported in from other countries.

Balance of Payments

In February 2016, Japan's current account balance was in a surplus of 1734 billion yen (16,008,426,720 US Dollar)

Trade Balance

Within the world, there are countries that have either a surplus or a deficit. In balance of payment, Japan has a surplus because it exports more goods than it imports. For example, the united has the largest trade deficit in the world because it imports more than it exports. Japan is a wealthy nation despite its imports for natural resource. It is important for Japan to remain exporting goods as to not have a deficit. Japan Industrializes to make up for the fact that it imports its natural resources.

Exchange Rates

Exchange rates are the value of one currency for the purpose of conversion to another. For example 109.38 yen equals 1 US dollar. As the yen strengthens, business's make more profit. Let's look at this scenario. The exchange rate is 120 yen per 1 dollar .There are two companies. Company A builds cars in Japan for about 1.2 million yen each, and then exports the car to the US. Company B has a factory in the US and builds the cars for $10,000 which is equivalent to 1.2 million yen. Each company sells their cars for $15,000 and each make a profit of $5,000 or 600,000 yen. But if the exchange rate changed where the yen has strengthened to 100 yen per 1 dollar, it still costs 1.2 million yen to produce a car in Japan which is now equivalent to $12,000. For company B it still only costs $10,000 to make the car and they make a profit of $5,000, while Company A only makes a profit of $3,000 because the yen strengthened.

Most people in Japan don’t identify with any religion at all and results say that over 60% are atheists. Shinto is the Indigenous religion of Japan and is defined as an action- centered religion, meaning it is very focused on ritual practices. Shinto practices were first recorded in historical records in the 8th century. Buddhism arrived in Japan in the 6th century, centered on the worship of ancestral nature deities.

Effects of Religion

Now in Japan religion is not very influential. Although in business, the Japanese are more team oriented rather than individual oriented because in Buddhism “no self” is practiced.Bibliography

Japanese Business Etiquette

In Japan, business etiquette is very important in any type of business affairs. Foreigners are still expected to understand some business customs. A conservative attitude is customary. Arrogance is not acceptable, it leads to a lack of respect. Bowing and shaking hands are part of the first initial meeting. Seating positions are also very important as they indicate ones status. Always wait to be seated and take notes throughout the meeting.

Visiting Shrines and Temples

Behave respectfully and calmly when visiting a temple. When you enter make a short prayer in front of the sacred object to show respect. You may be required to take off your shoes. When visiting show respect by bringing an offering such as a coin and bow when leaving.

Taking a bath

To bath Japanese style, one first rinses off the body outside of the bath tub and then enters the tub which is used for soaking only. After, you leave the tub and clean the body with soap and then rinse before getting back into the tub. Soak ponce more in the tub and then the bath water is generally used for other family members.

Japanese Greeting Etiquette

The Japanese greet each other by bowing. Bows can range from a nod of the head to a very deep bend from the waist. The nod is very casual while the deep bow indicates respect. Bowing is also used to apologize, make a request for a favor, or to thank someone.

Dining Out

Customers are greeted with “irasshaimase,” which means “welcome, please come in.” Only in special occasions are customers expected to seat themselves. Traditional seating is called zashiki, where you sit on pillows on the floor. This requires you to take your shoes off. Tipping is not customary in Japan.

Re:Country Study & Non-Profit

Extensive research and analysis in the CSBEAST shared spreadsheet was conducted on many countries including Japan, Spain and Peru. As a business entrepreneur I plan to establish a Non-Profit organization to help these countries be more successful.

Japan, Reduction of Air Pollution Japan is the 5th most populated country in the world. As a result air pollution is a growing problem in Japan. In the past Japan has overcome many environmental obstacles, and the citizens in this era would not have a problem with helping reduce their countries air pollution. An organization that has bracelets, wristbands, or t-shirts with an organizations logo on it, that is known for reducing air pollution could help

raise money and awareness for reducing air pollution.

Spain, Preventing Child PovertyA significant issue facing the country of Spain is child poverty. A UNICEF report states, one in three Spanish children live in poverty or at risk of social exclusion, and the school dropout rate is nearly 25%. A Non-Profit Organization like UNICEF that only focuses on the child poverty of Spain could be crucial to decreasing the growing issue of child poverty.

Peru, Deforestation PreventionPeru has the second largest share of the Amazon Basin which is 13% of the total area. Peru also has a deforestation issue that causes concerns. An estimated 370,000 acres is deforested annually and 4/5ths of all timber exports have been harvested illegally. A Non- Profit organization that could help the replenish Peru’s forest land would greatly benefit the country. An example that could be possible as a Non-Profit is, for every t-shirt or other merchandise bought, a tree is planted in Peru.As a business entrepreneur, a Non-Profit Organization could help advertise how you well you can run an organization and at the same time could even benefit the countries that are in need. With your help, I

believe starting a Non-Profit Organization would be beneficial for everyone. I would like your help to pursue this opportunity.
