“But what about you?” [Jesus] asked. “Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:15

Well before the calendar flips to December, Christmas cheer

begins to bubble up in our northern town. A medical office

drapes its trees and shrubs in close-fitting strings of lights,

each a different color, illuminating a breathtaking nighttime

landscape. Another business decorates its building to look

like an enormous, extravagantly wrapped Christmas pre-

sent. It’s difficult to turn anywhere without seeing evidence

of Christmas spirit—or at least seasonal marketing.

Some people love these lavish displays. Others take a more

cynical view. But the crucial question isn’t how others ob-

serve Christmas. Rather, we each need to consider what the

celebration means to us.

A little more than thirty years after His birth, Jesus asked

His disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man

is?” (Matthew 16:13). They gave responses others had given:

John the Baptist, Elijah, maybe another prophet. Then Jesus

made it personal: “Who do you say I am?” (v. 15). Peter re-

plied, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (v.

16).

Many will celebrate Christmas without a thought about

who the Baby really is. As we interact with them, we can

help them consider these crucial questions: Is Christmas just

a heartwarming story about a baby born in a stable? Or did

our Creator visit His creation and become one of us?

Father in heaven, may our Christmas celebrations this year, whether lav-

ish or small, honor the Messiah who came to redeem His creation.

Who was Matthew, the writer of the gospel by the same name?

Matthew (also known as Levi) was one of Jesus’s twelve disci-

ples. Prior to Jesus’s call, Matthew served as a despised tax col-

lector (9:9). Tax collectors were particularly loathed because they

exacted taxes from their own people, the Jews, to pay the Ro-

mans (the oppressive rulers of Israel). And they often collected

far more than required. Matthew wrote his gospel primarily to

the Jews to prove that Jesus is the Messiah (Savior), the eternal

King. We see Matthew’s emphasis clearly in today’s passage.

When Jesus asked His disciples about His identity, Peter de-

clared, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (16:15–

16). Alyson Kieda

Farewells

That’s it – another successful year done and dusted. I want to say farewell to our gradu-

ating Year 6 students who will be moving on next year. I would also like to say goodbye

to any other families who are leaving Carnarvon. We will miss each one of you and

thank you for choosing to enrol your children in CCS whilst you lived here. Have a safe

and Merry Christmas and if you are not a church-goer, please take a moment to reflect

on the real reason for the season.

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end. “

Awards Night

The Award’s Night was a huge success. Praise God for the outstanding performances of

our students. On the night they all “rocked” and we were proud of each and every one

of them. I would also like to congratulate the teachers, educational assistants ad all oth-

er staff members for the special work they put in preparing the children for the night. A

special thanks to Mrs Schaefer and Miss yang for organizing and co-ordinating the show

and the many hours spent training the children behind the scenes.

Prefects 2019

Pamela Eze, Chas Law-Davis, Rahni Perry and Jayden Rudge have been elected prefects

for 2019. Congratulations. I would like to thank all our candidates as each of you would

have been worthy to fill the role. If you missed out—please be reminded that your turn

will come!

Fluffy Visit

We had an exciting visitor to CCS

today. With a name like Fluffy the

children thought that a rabbit or cat

were coming. But they were a long

way off the mark. Fluffy is a huge

Clydesdale horse. Fluffy came to us,

resplendent, wearing his reindeer

costume and pulling a cart bearing a

very young Santa who was dishing out

chocolates to the children. The

children were most excited and got

the chance to pat Fluffy and get a

short ride in his cart. Our thanks to Cathy and Michael for bringing Fluffy to our

school.

Principal’s Report A big welcome to Rachael to our office staff. Rachael has been settling in over the past few weeks. You may have already met Rachael sitting behind Nadine’s desk and wondered what is happening. Well no need to worry, as Nadine has taken over Brooke’s Bursarial role.

Opening of the Nature Playground

Our Nature Playground was opened last Friday. If you haven’t already visited our lat-

est facility, please take the time to have a look. A lot of planning and work has gone

into the park and it is a fabulous place for the children to explore and play. All the

money to build the playground was raised by the Fundraising Committee ably lead

by Vanessa and Kurt Schaefer.

The railway carriage donated by the Gascoyne Heritage Society has arrived and is

currently being repaired so it will safe for the children to play on. I would like to

thank Eddie Smith and the committee for donating the carriage, Mia Maslen and

Krisanya Hatch for raising money for the Heritage Society and bringing us to their

attention. I would also like to thank Burke Maslen for contacting Kristen Pinner from

Northern Aspects Builders who transported the 3 tonne device to our school. We are

extremely appreciative of Kristen who did the job at no cost to CCS. Thank you each

and everyone for your enormous contributions.

Principal’s Report New School Oval

Pompy Moore and I continue to work on our new school oval. 7 lines each with

20 or more sprinklers have already been installed. Over the school holidays,

Sean Ford will be flattening the land and preparing it for planting – sometime in

the new year. I can’t wait to see!!

School start and finish times for 2019

The School day will start at the normal time of 8.15am. However, our school

day finish time will change to 2.30pm (5 minutes later than this year). We will

work with the Bus Charter so that students are able to catch the bus as usual.

Farewell to some of our amazing staff

leaving us for new adventures in 2019

Saying good-bye to our wonderful Year 6

students.
