The Public Policy Committee of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has organized election and campaign materials for persons interested in cam-paigning for the City Council, School Board and Kandiyohi County Commis-sioner positions. Filings open May 17th and close May 31st. If needed, the Pri-mary election is August 9, 2016 and the General Election is November 8, 2016. Nathan Streed, Public Policy Committee Election Workshop Chair states, “This is an attempt by the Chamber to assist and encourage individuals from the commu-nity who are possibly interested in seeking election to the City, School or County government; and to provide them with the essential information about the role of each of the elected offices.” It is our hope that by providing these informational tools, we will produce an informed candidate and provide the community with candidates who understand their respective job descriptions for public office.” Information is organized from the City, School and County Administrators to as-sist potential candidates regarding commonly asked questions. Pat Solheid, long time committee member also states, “The Chamber takes an active interest in the election process. With City Council, School Board, and County Commissioner positions up for election in Willmar, New London and Spicer, there are plenty of opportunities to become an active to participant on a governing body.” Individuals who are interested in running for the office of County Commissioner, School Board or City Council, are encouraged to contact the Chamber Office, 235-0300, to receive a complimentary copy of the materials or they can attend an informational luncheon featuring retired elected officials talking about their experience as an elected official and business person. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 12th during a noon luncheon meeting from 12:00 – 1:30 P.M. at the Chamber Office and potential attendees are encouraged to RSVP so the proper meeting arrangements can be made by calling or emailing the Chamber at 235-0300 or kwarner@willmarareachamber.com.
