Bush Telegraph Follow these instructions to call up your mates. What you need a parent or older friend to help two empty cleaned cans (or disposable cups) thick tape string (1-2m long) stickers a mate to call © The Northcott Society and Cerebral Palsy Alliance 2017 What to do 1. Ask a parent or older friend to punch a hole in the bottom of each can and wrap any sharp edges with thick tape. The holes should be just big enough to push the string through. 2. Push the string through the hole of one can. 3. Tie a knot. Pull the string tight so the knot rests in the bottom of the can. If the knot won’t stay, tie the string around a toothpick. 4. Place the untied end of the string through the bottom of the other can or cup. Tie a knot as before and pull the string tight. 5. Decorate your bush telegraph with stickers. 6. Place the open end of one can over your ear and have your mate speak into the open end of the other can. Make the string as tight as you can. You should hear your friend speak, even if it is a long piece of string. Have a conversation!
