BUNGENDORE PUBLIC SCHOOL
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
THURSDAY 2 MARCH 2017, WEEK 6 TERM 1
Self regulation skills are linked to how well children manage
many other tasks during early childhood. For example, as a child learns
how to self-regulate, skills such as concentration, sharing and taking turns
develop.
Packing a healthy school lunchbox When children eat well they behave better, are able to listen well and
concentrate for longer. Packing a healthy school lunchbox helps children to
learn and play well and be happy at school.

Catering for the Crew
We are looking for volunteers who can help us raise between $500-$1000 on Sunday 12th March. We’re after volunteers who enjoy a giggle, making sandwiches and feeding 100 car and bike enthusiasts.
If you can help for a 2 hour shift on the day, please sign up here; http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0549AEA62BA0FC1-catering or email us at [email protected] Huge thanks to those eager volunteers who have already signed up after seeing our Facebook post yesterday!
Country Muster Winner
The gloves were back out this week as we drew the winner of our $50 voucher to the uniform shop. Every time a person completed a shift they had their name entered into a draw. The lucky winner is Jane Hayes! We will send home your voucher this week.
Huge thanks again Kate and Ash and everyone who coordinated the cleaning and along with everyone who completed a shift, earned $5000 for our school, a wonderful start to the year.

A note of Thanks….
To the wonderful P&C, families, staff and teachers at Bungendore Public -
A heartfelt thank you for your kindness and support in the aftermath of
the Carwoola fire.
As newcomers to the school and to NSW, it has been amazing to
experience the warmth and generosity of this community.
Sincere thanks, Toni, Carl, Alexander and Christina
Head lice at our school We have had several cases of head lice reported in our school.
Please help us by being vigilant in the monitoring of your child’s hair.
It is only when everybody makes an effort at home to check their child’s hair
regularly that we’ll be able to remove head lice from our school.
Taking LEGO to the next level
LEGO Robotics is proving to be a big hit with students at
Bungendore Public School who have begun learning
how to build and program robots.
“It’s awesome. I felt like a real programmer,” said Year
5 student Andrew Goslett.
“I really wish that we had it as a full day lesson. Next
week I want to make my robot move and drive.”
Each Wednesday for the rest of this term, different year
groups of students will participate in the LEGO Robotics
workshops run by Systemic Innovations, an ACT provider
of the LEGO education learning programs.
Program facilitator Andrew Harper said he could de-
scribe the level of excitement on the first day of the ses-
sions in Bungendore in just one word.
“Extreme! It’s our first time to Bungendore and it is good
to come out to smaller schools so they don’t miss out
and it’s great for schools to get behind it too.”
Mr Harper said Systemic Innovations was in its second year of a three-year contract to
facilitate the learning programs.
“Everyone loves to work with LEGO,” he said, explaining he had happened upon the
job due to his wife spotting an advertisement for the LEGO education learning pro-
grams provider course.
“I’m a tradesman carpenter with two kids of my own. I
went to Melbourne to do the training through Moore
Education to be licensed by Lego Education to run
these programs.”
So, how much LEGO is there at the Harper house?
“Well, there’s kids LEGO and there’s Dad’s LEGO. No
Kraggle glue has been used yet,” he laughed.
Year 5 student Thomas Henderson said LEGO Robotics
took ordinary LEGO to the next level and his classmate
Remy Pattinson said she enjoyed pairing up to make a
robot that she and her partner named “Topaz”.
“It shows us how to have teamwork and I think this op-
portunity the school has given us will stay with us forev-
er,” Remy said.
“It will help us in our future careers as well.”
Moving to High School
Information Evening
Queanbeyan High School Parents and students commencing Year 7 in 2018 are invited to
attend an information evening at:
Queanbeyan High School Library
WEDNESDAY 8 March at 6 pm. Meet our Principal Jennifer Green who will briefly present
information about the transition to high school, upcoming school
refurbishments and changes to the NSW Secondary Curriculum. With significant changes to the
Higher School Certificate and exciting new curriculum and extra curriculum programs on offer,
now is a good time to learn about these changes.
Meet our Head Teacher of the Junior School and 2018 Year 7 Year Advisor who will outline our
transition program including visits to all partner schools, invitations to our matinee performances,
our two-day experience of High School and our Writing Masterclass day.
Visit our classrooms and facilities on a tour of the school and meet with subject specialists. Learn
about the new courses that commenced this year.
Meet our caring support staff who are there to discuss any concerns you may have about your
child’s transition to high school. Now is a good time to identify if you believe your child may need
substantial assistance and support with their transition to high school.
Tea and coffee will be available and a large number of staff will be on hand to
answer any questions you may have.
