GRANT APPLICATION GUIDE 2016

Building an inclusive, connected,

vibrant and healthy Buderim.

Buderim Foundation Grants 2016 Application Guide 2www.buderimfoundation.org.au

The Buderim Foundation is one of a growing number of community foundations being established across Australia. Launched in 2004, the Foundation goal is to enrich Buderim’s quality of life through community based philanthropy.

The concept is simple. Donations and bequests are carefully invested and the income is distributed as grants for Buderim community projects.

The actual donations, which can be tax deductible, are never spent. So these donations, however small, will last forever and accumulate along with donations from like-minded people.

In 2015 the Buderim Foundation provided a $11,000 grant split over two years to the Hear and Say organisation. Hear and Say used the funding to launch a screening program to test the hearing of prep school children across all Buderim schools. (Front cover photo)

The very successful Buderim Men’s Shed, which was established to help reduce social isolation and improve men’s health, has used a number of Foundation grants to purchase a range of specialist workshop equipment.

The Buderim Scout Group, one of the largest in Australia, has obtained two Foundation grants totalling $10,160. They received a grant in the first grant round in 2008 to purchase a new storage shed and then in 2013 they received the largest-ever grant to fit out a new kitchen in their scout den.

The Sunshine Coast Bushwalkers Club focuses on safe bushwalking. In 2010 they received a grant to purchase personal locator beacons, first aid kits and UHF two-way radios as part of their Safety in Bushwalking Project.

Friends of the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens received a $5,500 grant which they used to develop the Whipbird Walk – a part of the gardens designed to entice Sunshine Coast families to interact with nature.

And there are so many more equally inspiring stories. To see the complete list of successful grant recipients go to www.buderimfoundation.org.au/grants

Since the Grants Program started in 2008, the Foundation has witnessed a fourfold increase in grant applications. We believe this reflects the remarkable number of new initiatives being developed by Buderim community organisations. We are pleased to be able to offer grants of up to $10,000 per project to community organisations. Through this program the Foundation continues to promote a thriving community that is socially responsible, truly connected and supportive of one another.

To date, the Foundation has awarded grants of more than $220,000 to 54 community organisations. These organisations have used their grants in a variety of ways.
