More Training Underway at 2014 Projects

Lupuka Community School

Twenty trainees will soon put the roof on at Lupuka. The children can’t wait for their new school to be finished. The two classroom block will replace the unstable mud and stick structure currently being used, giving them a cool, comfortable learning environment.

Shipungu House and Latrine

The new rammed earth latrines at Shipungu are nearly finished, and they are looking good! Eleven trainees built the house which is also near completion. We always look at ways to improve our sustainable designs and at Shipungu we have trialled thatched roofing.

Chibolya Community School

The classroom block at Chibolya sees the return of our distinctive hexagonal school design. 10 men and 10 women are being trained on site, building two new classrooms and a kitchen to meet growing demand at the school we built back in 2011.

Our second annual independent impact study reveals income increases for trainees. The study assessed our graduate trainees progress against key economic indicators since they graduated from Build It International’s basic building skills training programme. The results are encouraging and show that our graduate trainees are securing jobs in construction and increasing their incomes. A great example of this is Aaron Maposa who you can read about overleaf. The new facilities that our graduates help to build are increasing access to education and proper sanitation, helping disadvantaged communities to thrive. We are urgently fundraising to build latrines and a teachers’ house at Lupuka and to transform the community of Mwala by building three new classrooms, latrines and providing a safe water source. We will also train 30 men and women in building skills. There are so many ways you can get involved. From making a donation to taking part in a sponsored event or simply sharing stories about our work with your family, friends and colleagues. If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Call us on 01743 246317.

“I was so excited to fundraise for Build It – you change a community for life, building schools that generations will benefit from, training local people, helping them develop skills for employment

– the good work really does just go on and on.” Sasha Evans, Build It Fundraiser

Meet Aaron

Aaron Maposa’s skills training has enabled him to secure a five year

contract with a construction company. Aaron was trained at Chansu (Nchute) Health Clinic in 2011. Since completing his training he has tripled his income and now has a bank account so he can save money and plan for the future.

We have made three new appointments to our Board of Trustees in the UK.

“Training has changed my life. I am now earning a good salary and can

pay for my two sisters and two brothers to go to school.”

We are extremely proud that, thanks to your support, we have completed 25 projects and are close to

finishing three more; but there is still much more to do...

In Zambia, Wilson Sumaili and Francis Mwale have joined our Board. Since 2006, Build It has been built on the foundation of good governance. Our Boards are responsible for developing policy and strategy, monitoring programme implementation and legal compliance.
