Kanye y Chewbacca Van de Vacaciones - DOP identification
Now that you’ve what Direct Object Pronouns are in Spanish, your job is to find them within the story and box them in. Remember, there are 4 different types of DOPs that translate to “it or them”: Lo, La, Los, or Las
Instrucciones:1) Read the story again. Box in the DOP.2) On the back of your story, write the sentence the DOP is a part of.3) Work with a partner and re-write the sentence without the DOP
underneath the original sentence. Some sentences will not have an apparent direct object so you may skip over these; there are only 3 like this.
4) Make sure to do this for all DOPs; there are 9.

Did you know that September 15 - October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month (El mes de La Herencia Hispana)?
Today, we are going to be listening to a song that celebrates Hispanic/Latino culture.
Before we do that, let’s discuss some terms. Take out a sheet of paper and label them: Hispanic Heritage Notes.
Facts about La Herencia Hispana ● Sept. 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month because
it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18.
● With 329 million native speakers, Spanish ranks as the world's No. 2 language in terms of how many people speak it as their first language. It is slightly ahead of English (328 million) but behind Chinese (1.2 billion)
● The term Hispanic was first adopted by the United States government in the early 1970s, and has since been used in local and federal employment, mass media, academia, and business market research. It has been used in the U.S. Census since 1980. Because of the popularity of "Latino" in the western portion of the United States, the government adopted this term as well in 1997, and used it in the 2000 census
Latino(a) v. Hispano(a)Someone who is HISPANIC, would be a person that either comes directly or has parents or grandparents that descend from a Spanish speaking country. This includes countries not in the American continent like Spain and Guinea Equatorial.
Someone who is LATINO(A), would be a person that either comes directly or has parents or grandparents that descend from a country in Latin America. Latin America usually refers to all countries in the American continent. This includes individuals that speak portuguese, like people from Brazil.
*The term Latinx, which has gained popularity in social media is a new addition to the term Latino(a) and provides an option for those who are non-gender binary.
What about Chicano(a)?This is a term that came about in the ‘70s, arising from the Civil Rights movement meant to highlight specifically individuals who before the rise of this term, called themselves “mexican american”. For many years, the term Chicano(a) had somewhat of a negative connotation arising from contrarians that opposed the “uprise” of chicanos demanding rights. It is no longer negative, but definitely only utilized for individuals of mexican origin.
