1 Overview

This section covers part of the safety precautions to be observed during the installation and maintenance of network equipment.

Only when the components carrying beryllium oxide are damaged can the beryllium oxide do harm to human body. The personnel who contact or handle the components should be aware of the component peculiarity and take corresponding preventive measures beforehand.

There are many parts of the equipment use the component carrying beryllium oxide, such as power amplifier circuit, combiner circuit and so on. Components and modules should not placed in the environment that may cause mechanical damage, which consequently lead to the discharging of beryllium oxide.

The components carrying beryllium should not be discarded freely. To go along with the chemical treatment or special waste treatment for the component carrying beryllium oxide, one must follow the local regulation in this respect.

2.2 Hydrochloride

Warning:

Some equipment components carrying hydrochloride are chosen unavoidably. The burning of these components will generate toxic gas.

Preventive measures should be taken beforehand so that the components will not get burned, and even if the burning occurs, the toxic gas will not be inhaled into human body. The components should not be discarded freely. To dispose the component, the personnel should make the necessary chemical treatment or special waste processing for the component carrying hydrochloride in accordance with the related local regulation.

2.3 Hydrofluoride

Warning:

Some equipment components carrying hydrofluoride are chosen unavoidably. The burning of these components will generate toxic gas.

Preventive measures should be taken beforehand so that the components will not get burned, and even if the burning occurs, the toxic gas will not be inhaled into human body. The components should not be discarded freely. To dispose the component, the personnel should make the necessary chemical treatment or special waste processing for the component carrying hydrofluoride in accordance with the related local regulation.

3 Electrical Safety

3.1 High Voltage

Danger:

High voltage power supply provides electricity for equipment operation. Direct contact or indirect contact via damp objects with high-voltage wires or mains supply may be fatal.

Installation of AC power supply equipment must be implemented in compliance with local safety regulation, and the personnel engaged in AC power supply must be qualified in high-voltage and AC operations.

Electrical conductors such as watch, bracelets and ring must be removed before operation.

If the cabinet is found to be wet, please immediately switch off power supply. Keep the equipment dry in humid environment.

Warning:

Improper high-voltage operations may result in fire and electric shocks. Therefore, AC cable must be laid in compliance with local codes. High-voltage operators should be trained and be qualified.

3.2 Power Cable

Caution:

Live installation and removal of power cable are definitely prohibited. Electric spark or arc may result from contact of power cable with conductors, causing fires or eye injury.

Power must be switched off before installation and removal of power cable. Before connecting cable, make sure that the cable and cable tag to be used

should match actual installations.

3.3 Tools

Warning:

High-voltage and AC operations call for special tools instead of general-purpose or makeshift tools.

3.4 Drilling Holes

Warning:

Unauthorized drilling on the cabinets is strictly prohibited. Improper drilling may damage the connections and cables inside the cabinet, and the metal filings resulting from the drilling may cause short-circuit of circuit board if the fillings fall into the cabinet.

To drill on the cabinet, insulated gloves must be worn and the cables inside the cabinet must be removed.

The installation personnel should protect their eyes properly when drilling. Flying metal filings may hurt one’s eyes.

Prevent metal filings from falling into the cabinet. Improper drilling will deteriorate the electromagnetic shielding performance of the

cabinet. After drilling, remove all the metal filings immediately.

3.5 Thunderstorm

Danger:

High-voltage and AC operations and operations on steel towers and masts are strictly prohibited in thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms can generate powerful electromagnetic field in the atmosphere. Therefore, equipment should be grounded properly in order to prevent the equipment from being thunderstruck.

3.6 Electrostatic

Caution:

Static electricity generated on human body may damage the electrostatic-sensitive parts on the circuit board, such as large-scale integrated circuit (IC).

In dry climate, the electrostatic charge carried by human body may be up to 30 kV, which will remain on the human body for a rather long period of time. The operator’s contact with the component and the electric discharge will cause damage to the component.

Before contacting any equipment, hand-held plug-in boards, circuit boards and IC chips, put on anti-static wrist belts with one end well grounded so as to prevent sensitive parts from being damaged by static electricity on the human body.

Before operators touch the board or module, they should discharge the electrostatic in their body. That is, before the operator touch a board or a module, he must wear anti-static wrist strap. The connecting line between wrist and grounding point should connect in series with a resistance greater than 1M to protect people from being accidentally shocked. The resistance value greater than 1M is rather low in terms of electrostatic voltage discharging. The anti-static wrist strap should be checked regularly. It is strictly prohibited using other cable to replace the cable of anti-static wrist strap.

Electrostatic-sensitive board or module should not be in contact with the object with electrostatic or the object that may easily generate electrostatic.

Electrostatic-sensitive board or module can only contact the quality discharging material, such as the anti-static packing bag. The board in stock or in the course of transportation should be packaged with anti-static packing bag.

Before the measurement device is connected to boards or modules, it should firstly discharge its electrostatic; that is, the measurement device should be grounded in the first place.

The boards or modules should not be placed near strong DC magnetic field, say, near the cathode ray tube of the scope. The safety distance should be outside of 10 cm range at least.

The damage caused by electrostatic is accumulative in effect. If the damage is slight, the component will not malfunction. However, as the time of damage increases, the components may suddenly fail. The electrostatic discharging damage on the component is of two types: explicit damage and implicit damage. Implicit damage is not shown when the damage occurs, whereas the component may become vulnerable and easily get damaged under the condition of over-voltage and of high-temperature.

The correct way of wearing anti-static wrist strap is shown in Figure 1.

3.8 Leakage Current

Warning:

To avoid the occurrence of large leakage current, the equipment must be grounded before it is connected with power supply.

Before connecting the AC input power supply, the operation and maintenance personnel should first connect the protection-grounding terminal of the equipment housing with the earth. The purpose of doing this is to avoid the electric shock on human body result from leakage current, which is usually caused by the EMI wave filter earth capacitance of the equipment AC power supply input terminal or the Y capacitance of the primary power supply.

3.9 Environment with Flammable Air

Danger:

The equipment should not be placed in the environment where flammable, explosive air or smog exists. No operation of any kind can be performed in this environment.

The operation of any digital equipment in this equipment poses absolute threat in this environment.

4 Batteries

4.1 General Operation

Danger:

Before undertaking the battery operations, the personnel should carefully read the safety precautions for handling batteries and the connection of batteries.

Improper operation of batteries will be dangerous. Guard against short-circuits of batteries or electrolyte spillover in operation, which may pose a potential threat to

equipment, corrode metal articles and circuit boards, damage equipment and result in short circuit of circuit board.

Before undertaking the installation and maintenance of batteries, the personnel should take the following measures to ensure safety:

The batteries should be handled with care. Avoid strenuous vibration during the move.

Metal articles such as watch, bracelets and ring must be removed. Use special insulated tools. Wear eye protection gears and take preventive measures. Wear rubber gloves and apron in case of electrolyte spillover. Hold the positive pole of batteries upright during handling. Do not handle them

upside down or in slant position.

4.2 Short Circuit

Caution:

Short-circuit will cause personal injury. Although the voltage of ordinary battery is not high, the powerful instantaneous current generated by short-circuit may release immense energy.

Prevent short-circuit of batteries caused by metal articles, such as short-circuit caused by improper use of tools. If permitted, first disconnect the batteries at work and then proceed with other operations.

4.3 Harmful Gases

Caution:

Unsealed lead acid batteries should not be used, as the gas released from the batteries may cause fires or equipment corrosion. Batteries should be placed horizontally.

Batteries may give off inflammable gases in operation, so the place where the batteries are located should be well ventilated and fire prevention measures should be taken.

4.4 High Temperature

Caution:

Excessively high temperature of batteries will cause deformation and damage of batteries and spillover of acid liquid.

When the temperature of battery is over 60°C, check whether there is spillover of acid liquid.

In case of acid liquid spillover, please handle the acid spillover in time.

4.5 Acid Liquid

Caution:

In case of acid liquid spillover, make sure that such spillovers are absorbed and neutralized.

To move leaking batteries, mind the damages liable from the acid liquid. Once acid liquid is found to have spilt over, absorb and neutralize it with the following materials.

Bicarbonate: NaHCO3 Barilla: Na2CO3 Soda: Na2CO310H2O Consult with battery manufacturers as regards materials used to absorb and

neutralize acid liquid.

4.6 Battery Replacement

Warning:

Operation and maintenance personnel should not replace the batteries of prescriptive model with that of different model; otherwise, the explosion danger of the batteries may incur.

To prevent battery leakage due to aging, periodical checking (at least once half a year) is needed.

5 Microwave and Magnetic Field

5.1 Introduction

The equipment antenna in service will generate electromagnetic radiation. Standing too close to the antenna is against the safety codes. The equipment can only be installed and maintained by trained professional personnel. The radiation design of the equipment should meet the IEEE C95.1-1991 recommendation. When working near the full-power transmitting antenna, one should read the following safety working requirement.

5.2 Definition of the Environment

The uppermost level limit of the environment that can be exposed to radio magnetic radiation is of two kinds: one is "controlled environment" and the other is "uncontrolled environment" with less radiation.

Controlled environment

"Controlled environment" refers to a certain location where the personnel who enter the area are aware of the potential threat of exposing themselves in the radio frequency radiation environment. The magnetic field level of the area is higher than that the level of "uncontrolled environment" but no greater than that of "controlled environment level" listed in the table.

Uncontrolled environment

"Uncontrolled environment" refers to a certain location where the personnel who enter the area are not aware of the potential threat of exposing oneself in the radio frequency radiation environment, and they cannot be in control of the environment where they are situated. This location may include living environment or working environment. The magnetic field level of the location cannot be greater than the uppermost level that can be exposed in the "uncontrolled environment".

5.3 Minimal Distance Formula

The following content introduces how to calculate the minimal safety distance. The formula is used for calculating the minimal safety distance apart from all types of antenna.

In the uncontrolled environment, the greatest field power density permitted is f/150, in which f is the frequency, whose unit is MHz. Its tested value is the mean value measured when the testing time is over 30 minutes. In the controlled environment, the greatest filed power density permitted is f/30, and its tested value is the mean value measured when the testing time is over 6 minutes.

When installing and maintaining the antenna at local end on steel tower and mast on which multiple transmitter antennae are installed, proper coordination work should be made in advance and the transmitter of the antenna should be shut down.

Warning:

The operation of installation and maintenance around the area where the antenna is in service should be kept away from the antenna for a distance far enough.

It is strictly prohibited to screw off the transmitter output feeder or antenna feeder cable plug while the transmitter is in operation.

When it is required to screw off the feeder cable plug or to work in the nearby of the transmitting antenna, the concerned transmitter should be powered off.

6 Laser

Warning:

The laser beam inside optical fibers may do harm to the eyes.

In the installation and maintenance of optical fibers, keep your eyes away from, or avoid direct look at, the optical fiber outlet.

7 High Temperature

Warning:

It is unavoidable that the temperature of some equipment parts is rather high. Please do not touch the surface freely, or the scalding may occur.

When the equipment is running in the tropical environment, the temperature benchmark of the parts is 45ÿC and the maximal range of temperature rise allowed is 30ÿC in the normal working condition. When fault occurs, the maximal range of temperature rise allowed is 55ÿC. So when the parts work at the high temperature of 45ÿC in the normal working condition, their highest temperature

should not exceed 75ÿC,and when fault occurs, the highest temperature should not exceed 100ÿC.

The temperature for radiator of the transmitter RF power amplifier and the power supply radiator, for instance, can reach above-mentioned high temperature.

8 Fan

Warning:

To dismount the fan in running, never dip the finger or tool into the fan before the fan is powered off or stops running so as to avoid damaging the equipment or result in injury on human body.

Inserting the finger into the fan while it is running will lead to injury. When replacing related parts, place the objects such as the parts, screw, and

tool properly. Make sure that they would not fall into the fan in running, or it will damage the fan or related equipment.

When replacing the peripheral equipment of the fan, never dip the finger or board into the fan to avoid any possible injuries on the equipment or the hands.

Warning:

Keep yourself away from the dangerous running parts.

9 Working at Heights

9.1 General Operation

Warning:

When working at heights, beware of falling objects.

High-rise operations must be in accordance with the related national high-rise operation codes:

High-rise operators must have undergone appropriate training.

Take care of the machines and tools at hand and prevent them from falling. Take safety precautions; put on helmet and safety belt. Put on cold-proof clothes before high-rise operations in cold areas. Check all the hoisting gears before working at heights.

9.2 Safety Codes on Ladder-using

Before using the ladder, first check if the ladder is damaged. Make sure the ladder is safe for use. Overweight on the ladder is strictly prohibited. See Figure 2 and Figure 3

The slant of the ladder is 75ÿ at best. The slant can be measured with Angle Square or with arms, as is shown in the figure. When using the ladder, the wider end of the ladder should be placed against the ground or protective measures should be taken on the base part of the ladder for the purpose of skid resistance. Placed the ladder against a stable ground. See Figure 4 and Figure 5.

When climbing the ladder, one’s center of gravity should not deviate from the ladder edge. To lessen the danger and ensure safety, three parts of the body should be on the ladder. When climbing the ladder, the upper limit of the height should not exceed the highest four steps. If one is about to climb to the top, the length of the ladder should be 1 meter higher than the eave.

10 Other Items

10.1 Weight Hoisting

Warning:

Access to the areas under the gib arm and the goods in suspension is strictly prohibited when hoisting weight.

The weight hoisting operators should undergo related training and be qualified. The weight hoisting tools should be checked and be complete. Make sure that

only when the weight hoisting tools are firmly fixed onto the weight-bearing object or the main wall can weight-hoisting operations be undertaken. Use concise command to avoid mis-operation.

The slant of the cabinet-top bearing cable for hoisting should not be greater than 90ÿ to prevent the cable from breaking. See Figure 6.

10.2 Heavy Object Portage

Warning:

When carrying the heavy object such as the cabinet, be prepared for the weight bearing and mind not to be bruised by the heavy object.

The CDU weights 10 kg. While the unit is being installed or replaced, it should be hold with both hands or with one hand propping up the base part to keep it from falling or hurting the one’s fingers.

The installation and maintenance of BTS cabinets should be undertaken by 2 to 3 persons. The operations of slanting, tilting, and erecting the cabinet should also be done with the cooperation of 2 to 3 persons. When the cabinet center of

gravity slant over 10ÿ, the cabinet may be off balance under the influence of the center of gravity.

10.3 Sharp Edge of Objects

Warning:

When handling equipment, please wear protection gloves to prevent injury from sharp edges.

10.4 Plug in/Pull out Boards

Caution:

Do not apply too much force when inserting boards to avoid bending the pins on the backplane. Pulling the board along the slot gently to avoid short-circuit due to the surface contacts of board circuits. Keep hands off the board circuit, units, connectors or cabling trough.

10.5 Binding of Signal Wires

Caution:

Signal Wires should be tied separately from the cables of strong current or high voltage, and the spacing between these wires should be at least 150mm.

10.6 Maintenance and Debugging Should Not be Undertaken Individually

Attention:

One should not attempt to perform the maintenance or debugging over the equipment interior unless another qualified professional is present who can give instructions.

1.3 Outdoor Lightning Protection Box The outdoor lightning protection box can be divided into two specifications: 40kA (SPD40C) and 100kA (SPD100C). The outdoor lightning protection box provides the lightning protection function to the AC input power supply of BTS3802C. The two types of lightning protection boxes are different in the specifications of lightning protection module, but their structures and cable installation methods are the same. The following description is based on the installation of SPD40C.

If the outdoor lightning protection box to be installed is not the type described in this manual, please install it following the instructions in the deliver-attached AC lightning protection box user manual.

1.3.3 MCB in Outdoor Lightning Protection Box

The symbols on MCB: "|" stands for "on", and "O" stands for "off".

Before maintain AC lightning protection box, it is necessary to switch off the AC power to prevent shock hazard. The MCB in the AC lightning protection box is the main current loop switch. The input power supply can be cut off by switching off the MCB. In this case, all indicators of the lightning protection box turn off, and the NodeB connected to the lightning protection box will all be powered off.

1.3.4 Lightning Indication of Outdoor Lightning Protection Box

There are three indicators on the lightning protection module (L-N, L-PE, N-PE). These indicators indicate the operation status of the lightning protection box.

When the outdoor lightning protection box is powered on, if the three indicators on the lightning protection module are all green, the lightning protection box is working normally. If one of the indicators is red, then the lightning protection box is working abnormally.

Warning:

Once failure of outdoor lightning protection box occurs, please contact Huawei's technical personnel for maintenance as soon as possible, otherwise its connected equipment may suffer lightning strike.

The internal components of the lightning protection box (fuse, piezoresistor and gas discharge tube) must be checked by Huawei's technical personnel. The user is not allowed to perform such operations.

The outdoor lightning protection box illustrated in Figure 1-5 allows fuse replace. 100kA outdoor lightning protection box does not support fuse replace either.

2.1 About This Chapter In order to make good use of the installation space, to facilitate the installation, cabling and future operation & maintenance, the installation positions of the BTS3802C and the auxiliary facilities should be carefully planned beforehand. This chapter describes five typical installation plans when BTS3802C configured with outdoor lightning protection box, including:

Installation on Platform Supported by Two Electric Poles Installation on Platform Supported by Tower Installation on Wall Installation on Stand Installation on Metal Mast

2.2 Installation on Platform Supported by Two Electric Poles The installation on a platform supported by two electric poles is applicable to the areas where the elevation is high, the tall and dense trees, big buildings and high mountains do not exist and the antenna height need not be over 12 m, such as the field, countryside, roadside, etc. This installation requires small floor space and has few impacts on the surrounding environment. It can be used for the BTS3802C to cover the countryside, road, etc.

2.2.1 Installation Requirements

The platform is composed with two electric poles and one maintenance platform. See Figure 2-1

I. Requirements for maintenance platform

The maintenance platform is built between two poles. It is a scaffold for the installation and maintenance personnel to perform operations on BTS3802C. The requirements for it are given below:

The maintenance platform should have a size of 2 m × 2 m and a load capacity of no less than 1200 kg/m2. The bottom of the platform should be at a height of 2.5~3 m above the ground.

A guardrail should be erected on the maintenance platform. The guardrail should be no less than 700 mm tall. It can be made up of 50 mm * 50 mm * 5 mm angle steels and 40 mm * 4 mm flat steels through welding.

Two 600 mm openings should be left in the guardrail at the positions where the maintenance platform is fixed to the two electric poles. Through the openings, the installation and maintenance engineers can get on/off the platform and install/remove the equipment.

The maintenance platform should be securely welded with the downleads of the two lightning rods. Or a piece of 40 mm × 4 mm hot-galvanized flat steel may be added to the platform, with the middle and the ends respectively welded with the platform and the downleads securely.

The maintenance platform should be coated with anti rusting paint.

A sign should be hung at a conspicuous position on the platform, saying "Danger of High Voltage! No Climbing!" There should also hang a sign on the electric pole, saying "Care for Communication Facility!"

Note:

If the maintenance platform and the downleads of the lightning rods are not welded, a 35 mm2 (sectional area) yellow & green protection earth wire together with the grounding clips that can connect a flat steel to OT terminals should be applied to connect the downleads of the lightning rods and the platform.

II. Requirements for metal beams and feeder cabling ladder

Three metal beams should be applied between the two electric poles to reinforce the electric poles, fix the feeder cabling ladder and realize electric communication between the downleads of the two lightning rods. They should be welded with the electric poles. The requirements for them are given below:

The beams should be made of 50 mm × 50 mm × 5 mm angle steels. The three beams should be respectively at a height of 5 m above the ground, at a

height of 6.5 m above the ground and at the tops of the electric poles. The beams should be securely welded with the downleads of the lightning rods.

The feeder cabling ladder is used to fix the feeders and for the installation and maintenance engineers to climb up and down. The requirements for it are given below:

The feeder cabling ladder should be erected along the axis of the beams between the maintenance platform and the tops of the electric poles.

The feeder cabling ladder should have a width of no less than 350 mm and a rung spacing of no more than 300 mm.

III. Requirements for fixing mast

The fixing mast is used to fix the BTS3802C and the outdoor lightning protection box. It should be vertically mounted between the lowest beam and the maintenance platform through welding. That is, the top of the mast should be welded with the beam and the bottom with the platform. The requirements for it are given below:

The fixing mast should be made of round steel with length of about 2300 mm, diameter of 80~110 mm and thickness of more than 3 mm.

The horizontal distance between the two fixing masts should be 1000 mm and the two masts should be symmetric about the axis between the two electric poles.

2.2.2 Requirements for Equipment Layout

Ensure that the cabinet bottom is more than 800 mm from maintenance platform to reserve enough space for RF cables installation.

Place the cabinet close to outdoor lightning protection box to ensure reliable connection of protection grounding cable (3 m) and power cable (3 m).

Ensure the distance between outdoor lightning protection box and grounding bar is less than 30 m.

2.2.3 Installation Example of BTS3802C on Platform Supported by Two Electric Poles

Figure 2-2 shows the installation layout when the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box are installed on the platform supported by two electric poles.

Caution:

The installation structures of each facility should be directly mounted on the fixing mast without being insulated. If they are mounted through welding, full welding rather than spot welding should be applied.

2.3 Installation on Platform Supported by Tower The installation on a platform supported by a tower is applicable to the field, countryside, roadside, etc. It can be used for the BTS3802C to cover the countryside, road, etc.

2.3.1 Installation Requirements

I. Requirements for maintenance platform

The maintenance platform is welded on the tower. It is a scaffold for the installation and maintenance personnel to perform operations on BTS3802C. The requirements for it are given below:

The maintenance platform should have a size of 3 m × 3 m. The maintenance platform should be at a height of 3 m above the ground. The maintenance platform should have a load capacity of no less than 500 kg/m2. The sunshade of the platform should be at a height of 3 m above the maintenance

platform. A guardrail should be erected on the maintenance platform. The guardrail should

be no less than 700 mm tall. It can be made up of 50 mm × 50 mm × 5 mm angle steels and 40 mm × 4 mm flat steels through welding.

A 600 mm opening should be left in the guardrail through which the installation and maintenance engineers can get on/off the platform and install/remove the equipment.

The earthquake resistance of the maintenance platform should be one degree higher than the local requirement.

The maintenance platform and other steel components should be coated with anti rusting paint.

A sign should be hung at a conspicuous position on the maintenance platform, saying "Danger of High Voltage! No Climbing!" There should also hang a sign on the tower, saying "Care for Communication Facility!"

II. Requirements for fixing mast

The fixing mast is used to fix the BTS3802C and the outdoor lightning protection box. The requirements for it are given below:

The fixing mast should be vertically mounted on the tower part above the maintenance platform.

The fixing mast should be made of round steel with length of about 2300 mm, diameter of 80~110 mm and thickness of more than 3 mm.

The number of fixing masts depends on the number of BTS3802Cs and the configuration of the BTS3802Cs.

The fixing mast should be fixed onto the tower using connecting pieces.

2.3.2 Requirements for Equipment Layout

Ensure that BTS3802C cabinet bottom is more than 800 mm from maintenance platform to reserve enough space for RF cables installation.

Place BTS3802C cabinet close to outdoor lightning protection box to ensure reliable connection of protection grounding cable (3 m) and power cable (3 m).

Ensure the distance between outdoor lightning protection box and grounding bar is less than 30 m.

2.3.3 Installation Example of BTS3802C on Platform Supported by Tower

Figure 2-3 shows the installation layout when the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box are installed on the platform supported by a tower. The figure provides the layout schemes of the omnidirectional and directional station.

2.4 Installation on Wall The installation on wall is applicable to both indoor and outdoor installation.

2.4.1 Installation Requirements

The requirements for the wall are given below:

The size of the existing facilities, the possible shift of the equipment and the equipment maintenance space are considered as the factors in determining the area of the wall.

The wall bearing the boxes should be firm, dry, leakproof, noncorrosive and without high voltage leakage.

The weight capacity of the wall should satisfy the requirement for mounting the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box, and allow the expansion bolt to be fixed.

The wall should be made of concrete or brick rather than stone or sandy soil.

2.4.2 Requirements for Equipment Layout

Ensure that BTS3802C cabinet bottom is more than 800 mm from maintenance platform to reserve enough space for RF cables installation.

Place BTS3802C cabinet close to outdoor lightning protection box to ensure reliable connection of protection grounding cable (3 m) and power cable (3 m).

Ensure the distance between outdoor lightning protection box and grounding bar is less than 30 m.

2.4.3 Installation Plan of BTS3802C on Wall

Figure 2-4 shows the installation layout when the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box are installed on the wall.

2.5 Installation on Stand If the BTS3802C cannot be installed on the wall (e.g., when the wall of the equipment room is structural grid, hollow wall or partition board), a floor stand may be used to support it.

2.5.1 Installation Requirements

The stand is used to support BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box. The requirements for it are given below:

The support should be installed as close to the wall as possible. The number of supports depends on the number of mini BTSs. The support should be coated with anti rusting paint.

2.5.2 Requirements for Equipment Layout

Ensure that BTS3802C cabinet bottom is more than 800 mm from maintenance platform to reserve enough space for RF cables installation.

Place BTS3802C cabinet close to outdoor lightning protection box to ensure reliable connection of protection grounding cable (3 m) and power cable (3 m).

Ensure the distance between outdoor lightning protection box and grounding bar is less than 30 m.

2.5.3 Installation Example of BTS3802C on Stand

Figure 2-5 shows the installation layout when the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box are installed on the stand.

2.6 Installation on Metal Mast The BTS3802C can be installed on a metal mast erected on a building top. This installation can be used for the BTS3802C to cover the rural area.

2.6.1 Installation Requirements

Normally the installation on metal mast requires the fixing mast of antenna and fixing mast of BTS3802C. The requirements for it are given below:

I. Requirements for fixing mast of antenna

The fixing mast of antenna is used to fix the omnidirectional antenna, directional antenna and lightning rod. The requirements for it are given below:

The metal mast should be made of strong steel pipe with diameter of 80~110 mm. The number of the fixing masts of antenna is decided by the number of the

antennas. Normally, the number of the fixing masts of antenna is the same as that of the antennas. For omnidirectional site, it is necessary to install an extra mast for the lightning rod.

If there are multiple omnidirectional antennas to be installed, the spacing of the masts should be larger than 4000 mm. If there are multiple directional antennas to be installed, the spacing of the masts should be smaller than 2000 mm.

The length of the metal mast depends on the requirement for the antenna height. It should not be over 8 m for the building top where the mast is situated is on height.

A cabling rack should be erected at a height of less than 1200 mm above the building top between the metal masts for the antennas for the layout of the feeder.

The metal mast should be coated with anti rusting paint.

II. Requirements for fixing mast of BTS3802C

The fixing mast of BTS3802C is used to fix the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box. The requirements for it are given below:

The fixing mast should be made of round steel with diameter of 80~110 mm and thickness of more than 3 mm.

When more than one fixing masts are needed, the horizontal distance between the fixing masts should be no more than 2 m. It is recommended it should be 1 m.

The number of fixing masts depends on the number of BTS3802Cs and the configuration of the outdoor lightning protection boxes. Table 2-1 provides the number of masts for reference.

2.6.3 Installation Example of BTS3802C on Metal Mast

This section takes the configuration of three BTS3802Cs and one outdoor lightning protection box sharing the metal mast with antennas as an example to introduce the installation layout.

I. Omnidirectional station

When the omnidirectional antenna is used, three metal masts are required. The middle one is for the lightning rod and the other two for the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box. Figure 2-6 shows the installation layout when the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box are installed on the metal mast with the omnidirectional antenna.

II. Directional station

When the directional antenna is used, two metal masts are required. One is for the BTS3802C and outdoor lightning protection box, and the other two for the two back-to-back BTS3802C. 4.1 About This Chapter

This chapter describes the installation preparations before cabinet installation. It covers:

4.2 Technical Documents Preparations 1) Documents for engineering design: WCDMA Radio Access Network System

Network Planning, WCDMA Radio Access Network System Engineering Design, BTS3802C WCDMA Mini NodeB Detail Drawings of Equipment Room and Relevant Environment, Engineering Design and Construction Drawings, etc. These documents should be prepared by the design unit appointed by the customer. The customers should provide a copy of the documents to Huawei prior to the equipment delivery.

2) Documents for engineering installation: BTS3802C WCDMA Mini NodeB Installation Manual, etc, should be provided by Huawei in the delivery.

Note:

In the cooperative installation project, the project-related documents such as BTS3802C WCDMA Mini NodeB Installation Manual are to be provided to the cooperator by Huawei prior to the project kickoff.

4.4 Unpacking Equipments

In the non-turnkey project, both the customer and the project supervisor (engineer from Huawei or cooperative party) are required to be present at the unpacking site. If one party is absent at the unpacking site, another party who unpacks shall responsible for any errors occurring to the articles.

In the turnkey project, it is the project supervisor and the order management engineer who unpacks, checks & accepts, hands over the articles, and makes a confirmation with signatures. The operation of Unpacking check and problem feed back in this case is almost the same as that of the non-turn key project, except that the customer does not need to sign. The goods will be handed over to the customer after passing the initial check of the project.

The following will mainly deals with the former case.

4.4.1 Collate Packing List

Before unpacking, both parties should check if the packing cases are damaged. If so, stop unpacking and contact the order management engineer at the local office of Huawei, waiting for the handling. Meanwhile, check if the quantity of cases on the site agrees with the “Packing List”, and if the place of delivery agrees with the actual installation place. If there is any disagreement, the project supervisor should feed back the Article Problem Feedback Form confirmed by the customer with a signature to the order management engineer at the local office within 3 days.

After all the above inspections are ok, unpack the cases to check and accept the articles.

There are two kinds of packages: wooden cases and cartons. The unpacking tools should be used accordingly.

Note:

The Packing List is usually in the carton with red label.

4.4.2 Unpacking Inspection on Cartons

Generally, the carton is used to pack various boards, modules and terminal equipment, etc. The board is placed in a plastic bag for transportation. Antistatic

measures should be taken during the unpacking so as to avoid any damage to the equipment.

Before opening the carton, first check the label on it to have an idea of the type and number of the modules in it. And then use a paper knife to cut open the tapes along the seams of the cover, and take out the module. The unpacking operation of NMCU is illustrated in Figure 4-1. The unpacking of NDRU and NPSU are the same with NMCU.

Caution:

When the board box is open, the board shall be seen wrapped in a packing bag and an antistatic bag. Do not tear or discard these two bags, as they can be used to store the spare boards or to wrap the failure boards for repair.

Check the goods after unpacking. The next unpacking cannot be done unless the present unpacking check has been finished. The check covers:

5.1 About This Chapter

This chapter describes three installation modes applied to the BTS3802C. It covers:

5.3 Installing on Wall

This chapter introduces the installation of BTS3802C on wall.

5.3.1 Mounting Hanger

When installed on wall, the BTS3802C requires a wall hanger to be fixed.

The installation procedure of the hanger lists below:

1) Mark four installation holes on the survey position of BTS3802C on the wall according to the distance between holes of the hanger shown in Figure 5-2.

Note:

For the BTS3802C installed outdoor, the installer should consider the installation position of sunshade meanwhile. The edge of the sunshade should be 50mm~100mm away from the top of the BTS3802C.

2) Drill at the 4 positions marked using the drilling bit 16. Clean up the inside as well as outside of all holes using a vacuum cleaner. Measure out the spacing between holes. If the spacing deviation is too long or too short, reposition the corresponding hole and re-drill.

Caution:

The hole depth should be the length of the expansion tube plus the drill bit within 52mm ~ 60mm.

3) Detach the expansion bolt. Remove the M12 × 60 bolt, spring washer 12, flat washer 12 and insulation washer 12, as shown in Figure 5-3.

4) Put the expansion tubes and the expansion nuts into the hole and make sure that the guiding ribs on the expansion nut are inserted in the guiding slots on the tube.

5) Hammer the tubes until they are completely buried in the wall.

Caution:

The upper part of the expansion tube should be hammered in the wall, otherwise the hanger cannot be leveled.

6) Add the insulation washers, flat washers, spring washers and insulation washers onto the bolts sequentially.

7) Thread the assembled bolts through the hanger, and then place the bolts into the expansion tubes, as shown in Figure 5-4.

8) Tighten the four bolts crosswise to fully expand them.

5.3.2 Installing Rack

The installation procedure of the rack lists below:

1) Hand the rack on the hanger, and make sure that the two hooks at the back of the rack are inserted into the corresponding slots on the hanger, and that the four gaskets are aligned with the four installation holes. See Figure 5-5.

2) From the inside of the rack, use four M10×45 screws to fix the rack on the hanger. The screws should be tightened crosswise. See Figure 5-6.

5.3.3 Installing Modules

It is recommended that the functional modules be installed from left to right. That is, the user better install NPSU, NDRU0, NMCU and NDRU1 sequentially. The module installation is to insert the module in the corresponding slot based on the module name on the module front and that on the backplane of rack.

The installation procedure of the modules lists below:

1) Screw off two M4 × 14 screws at two ends of each sealing cover and remove it from the installation socket of the subrack, as shown in Figure 5-8.

2) Insert the M10 × 230 bolt with spring washer 10 and flat washer 10 attached into the guiding pin of NPSU. Hold the bottom of NPSU and its handle, and insert it along the guiding rail into the slot, as shown in Figure 5-9.

3) Fasten M10×230 long bolts on the NPSU top and M6×24 captive screws on the NPSU bottom little by little alternately. Use a socket head wrench-5 to fasten the captive screws.

Caution:

The M10 long bolts and M6 screws should be tightened little by little alternately. Do not completely tighten one before starting another. Otherwise, the module cannot be fixed level.

4) Install NDRU0, NMCU and NDRU1 in the same way. Figure 5-10 illustrates the finished installation of the functional modules.

Caution:

Since NDRU is already equipped with heat-pipe radiator and is relatively heavy, it is recommended that two persons should cooperate in its installation. Be careful to avoid any scratch on or distortion of the heat-pipe radiator.

5) If there is one NDRU need to be installed, then a bird defensing board is needed to cover the empty NDRU slot. Figure 5-11 illustrates the installation.

6) Check the levelness. Place the level bar on the top of the rack, and measure the levelness twice by two directions vertical to each other. The measurement results should not be larger than 5°. If this requirement is not satisfied, please adjust the levelness of the rack accordingly.

7) After module installation, confirm the settings of the three DIP switches (E1/T1, 75/120 and E1_R) in the maintenance cavity of NMCU. The correct settings are as follows.

Note:

You only need to confirm the settings of the DIP switches "E1/T1", "75/120" and "E1_R". The settings of other DIP switches have been finished based on the NodeB's configuration type before delivery, so they do not need to be confirmed.

E1/T1

The DIP switch E1/T1 is used to set the transmission mode and the grounding of E1/T1 cable. Digits 1 and 2 are used to define the transmission mode, and digits 3 and

4 are used to define the grounding of E1/T1 cable queried by the internal software. Table 5-1 and Table 5-2 illustrate the meanings of the DIP switch.

DIP switch 75/120 can only be used to set matched impedance for the link 1 and link 2. The link 3 and link 4 is connected to the NASU, acting as transparent transmission E1 links under optical transmission mode, so their matched impedance can not be set by this switch.

When the 75 Ω coaxial cables are adopted, that is the unbalance interconnection, the outer conductor of the transmitting E1/T1 should be grounded, and the receiving one should be not grounded. When the 120 Ω twisted pair cables are adopted, that is the balance interconnection, the outer conductors of both transmitting or receiving E1/T1 should be not grounded.

8) Make sure that all the modules are in position and the DIP switch settings are correct. Turn the buckle on the rack to the position as shown in (b) of Figure 5-12.

5.3.4 Installing Cover

Note:

The cover should be installed after system commissioning so that the user can view the running status of the module during software installation and system commissioning.

The installation procedure of the cover lists below:

1) Insert the key with the cabinet into the key hole in the cover. Turn it to a horizontal

position pointing to . For details, see Figure 5-13.

2) Align the hooks on the top of the cover with the two slots on the rack and fix the cover on the rack by inserting the hooks into the slots, as shown in Figure 5-13.

5.3.5 Installing Sunshade

If BTS3802C is installed outdoor, a sunshade should be installed to protect the NodeB from sunshine, which will cause temperature rise inside the NodeB. The sunshade can be fixed on the wall using expansion bolts, or be fixed on the metal mast using fastener.

The procedure of fixing the sunshade on the wall is as follows:

1) Press the sunshade bracket against the wall over the BTS3802C, keeping the edge of the sunshade 50mm~100mm away from the top of the BTS3802C and its orientation same with the NodeB, as shown in Figure 5-15.

2) Take the installation holes of the sunshade bracket as the marking template to mark the positions of two expansion bolts on the wall. The positions of the expansion bolts are shown in Figure 5-16.

3) Refer to the drilling method described in “5.3.1 Mounting Hanger”, drill at the 2 positions marked using the drilling bit 10. Then hammer the bolts of the expansion bolts M8×80 until the tubes completely buried in the wall.

4) Hang the sunshade bracket on the two expansion bolts, and then add flat washers 8, spring washers 8, nuts M8 to the expansion bolts, as shown in Figure 5-17.

5) Correct the position of the sunshade bracket, and then tighten the two nuts crosswise.

6) Align the installation holes of the sunshade cover and the tap holes of the sunshade bracket.

7) Fix the sunshade cover on the bracket with six M5×12 screws. First, tighten the four diagonal screws crosswise, and then the middle two screws. See Figure 5-18.

5.4 Installing on Stand

The stand is designed for the indoor installation of BTS3802C only. Below is the introduction to the stand installation of BTS3802C.

5.4.1 Stand Installation Procedure

The installation procedure of the stand lists below:

1) Mark the four installation holes on the site survey position of BTS3802C on the ground according to the distance between holes of the stand shown in Figure 5-19.

4) Put the expansion tube and the expansion nut into the hole and make sure that the guiding ribs on the expansion nut are inserted in the guiding slots on the tube.

5) Hammer the tube until they are completely buried in the ground.

Caution:

The expansion tube should be completely buried in the ground, otherwise, the stand cannot stand level on the ground.

6) Lift the stand, and align it with the four expansion bolts fixed on the ground. 7) Place the stand on the ground, and then add the insulation washer, flat washer

and spring washer to the expansion bolts sequentially. 8) Insert the assembled expansion bolts into the expansion tubes, and then

completely tighten the bolts one by one and fix the stand on the ground. See Figure 5-21.

5.4.2 Installing Rack

1) Hang the rack on the stand by the hooks on its back to align the four gasket with the four installation holes on the stand. See Figure 5-22.

5.4.3 Installing Modules

When install BTS3802C on stand, the installation of the functional modules is the same as install on wall. Please refer to "5.3.3 Installing Modules".

5.4.4 Installing Cover

When the BTS3802C adopts stand installation, the installation of the cover is the same as install on wall. Please refer to "5.3.4 Installing Cover".

5.5 Installing on Metal Mast

Below is the introduction to the mast installation of BTS3802C.

5.5.1 Installing Fasteners

When installed on a wire pole or metal mast, the mini BTS requires fastening structures to fix the rack onto the mast.

The installation procedure of the fasteners lists below:

Fix the fastener 1 on the upper part of metal mast using M10×180 long bolt, and then the fastener 2 on the lower part of the mast. Adjust the distance between them to 378mm, as shown in Figure 5-24.

5.5.2 Installing Rack

The installation procedure of the rack lists below:

1) Hang the rack on the mast by fitting the two hooks on the back of the rack into the slots on the upper fastener. Make sure that the four gasket on the back of the rack align with the four installation holes of the fasteners. See Figure 5-25.

2) Tighten the two M10×45 screws on the upper part of the rack from inside, and then check whether the two screws on the lower part align with the installation holes on the fastener 2. If so, tighten the two screws. If not, adjust the position of fastener 2. See Figure 5-26.

5.5.3 Installing Modules

When install BTS3802C on mast, the installation of the functional modules is the same as install on wall. Please refer to "5.3.3 Installing Modules".

5.5.4 Installing Cover

When install BTS3802C on mast, the installation of the cover is the same as install on wall. Please refer to "5.3.4 Installing Cover".

5.5.5 Installing Sunshade

The procedure of fixing the sunshade on the mast is as follows:

1) Add spring washers 10 and flat washers 10 to the long bolts M10×180 and then thread the long bolts through the long fastener and the short fastener according to the Figure 5-27.

2) Fix the two fasteners on the metal mast with the flat washers 10 and M10 nuts, as shown in Figure 5-27. Keep the edge of the sunshade 50mm~100mm away from the top of the BTS3802C.

Caution:

Don't fix the fasteners tight, the sunshade position is need to be adjusted accurately in the following steps.

3) Add flat washers 8, spring washers 8 to the bolts M8×25, and then make the bolts through the installation holes on the bracket to fix the long fastener and the bracket. You should tighten the two bolts crosswise. Figure 5-28 shows the installation procedure.

4) Align the installation holes of the sunshade cover and the tap holes of the sunshade bracket.

5) Fix the sunshade cover on the bracket with six M5×12 screws. First, tighten the four diagonal screws crosswise, and then the middle two screws. See Figure 5-29.

6) Adjust the position of the sunshade, keeping its edge 50mm~100mm away from the top of the NodeB, and its orientation same with the NodeB. Figure 5-30 illustrates the finished installation of the sunshade on the mast.

Chapter 6 Installing Outdoor Lightning Protection Box

Note:

You needn’t read this chapter if you don’t buy the outdoor lightning protection box. See “Chapter 3 Installation Procedure”. Refer to the corresponding installation manuals according to “3.2 Procedure Description” for the installation guide of other auxiliary equipments.

6.1 About This Chapter

This chapter describes two installation mode to the outdoor lightning protection box. It covers:

6.2 Installing on Wall

Below introduces the wall installation of outdoor lightning protection box.

6.2.1 Installation Procedure

Figure 6-1 shows the procedure of outdoor lightning protection box installing on wall.

Note:

The cable installation of outdoor lightning protection box is not introduced in this chapter. Please refer to "Chapter 7 Installing Cables".

6.2.2 Wall Installation Procedure

The procedure of wall installation is as follows:

1) Place the outdoor lightning protection box on the survey position, and hold it against the wall to mark the positions of the four expansion bolts on the wall, as shown in Figure 6-2.

2) Drill at the 4 positions marked using the drilling bit 10. Clean up the inside as well as outside of all holes using a vacuum cleaner. Measure out the spacing between holes. If the spacing deviation is too long or too short, reposition the corresponding hole and re-drill.

Caution:

The hole depth should be the length of the expansion tube plus the drill bit.

3) Remove the M8 nut, spring washer 8 and flat washer 8 from the M8×80 expansion bolt.

4) Put the bolt and the expansion tube into the hole and hammer the tube until it is completely buried in the wall.

5) Hang the outdoor lightning protection box on the wall by the four mounting ears. 6) If the sunshade is needed, then align the installation holes on the sunshade with

the upper two expansion bolts also to hang the sunshade on the expansion bolts. 7) Add the flat washers, spring washers and nuts to the expansion bolts.

8) Adjust the levelness of the outdoor lightning protection box, and use the level bar to measure the levelness of the box twice in two directions vertical to each other.

9) Tighten the four nuts crosswise, and finally ensure that the box is fixed flat against the wall.

Figure 6-3 and Figure 6-4 show the installation procedure of fixing outdoor lightning protection box without sunshade and with sunshade.

6.3 Installing on Metal Mast

Below introduces the mast installation of outdoor lightning protection box.

6.3.1 Installation Procedure

Figure 6-5 shows the procedure of outdoor lightning protection box installing on metal mast.

6.3.2 Mast Installation Procedure

The mast installation procedure of outdoor lightning protection box is as follows:

1) Use the M8 ×25 bolt, spring washer and flat washer to fix the outdoor lightning protection box, sunshade and beam together. There are six installation holes on the beam. When fixing the beam, attention that the outdoor lightning protection box must be fixed on the installation holes on the beam shown in Figure 6-6.

2) Hold the fixed beam together with the outdoor lightning protection box against the mast, and then tighten the fastener so that the mast is fixed in the middle of the beam and the fastener.

3) Thread the M10×180 bolt through the beam and the fastener, and then add the flat washers 8, spring washers 8 and M8 nut to the bolts.

4) Adjust the levelness of the outdoor lightning protection box, and use the level bar to measure the levelness of the box twice in two directions vertical to each other.

5) One by one tighten the four nuts a little, and then completely tighten them all to ensure that the box is fixed flat against the beam. See Figure 6-7.

7.1 About This Chapter

This chapter describes the installation method of the BTS3802C cables. It covers:

7.2 About the Cable Connection

This section aims to get the installer familiar with the installation method of the cables connections for the BTS3802C by introducing the details of the inter-equipment connections, the ports of BTS3802C and the cable configuration.

7.2.1 Connection Relation between BTS3802C and Outdoor Lightning Protection Box

BTS3802C uses the following cables: RF cable (including RF jumpers and connectionless jumper), GPS jumper, transmission cable (including E1/T1 cable and optical fiber), power cable, alarm cable and protection grounding cable.

When the BTS3802C is configured with outdoor lightning protection box, the connection between BTS3802C and the outdoor lightning protection box is as shown in Figure 7-1. The power cables for connection with the outdoor lightning protection box include external power cable and protection grounding cable. The alarm cables and power cables are all delivered along with the BTS3802C.

Figure 7-1 only illustrates the connections between equipment. The configuration of these cables depends on actual networking.

An outdoor lightning protection box can protect three BTS3802Cs. If three cascaded BTS3802Cs are all within 3 meters of an outdoor lightning protection box, they can share the box.

When the BTS3802C is configured with an iSite Auxiliary Facility Box and other MBA equipment, see iSite MBA Auxiliary Facility Box Wring Diagram.

7.2.2 BTS3802C Ports

Figure 7-2 shows the ports of BTS3802C (at the bottom). NDRU can be classified into 1TX1RX NDRU and 1TX2RX NDRU. The 1TX1RX NDRU has all the ports of 1TX2RX NDRU except a diversity receive port RxD_ANT. The NDRU in the figure is 1TX2RX NDRU.

The ports of BTS3802C (at the bottom) are shown in Figure 7-2.

7.2.3 Cable Configuration

The cable connection, mainly RF cable connection of BTS3802C varies with networking and configuration. The corresponding RF cable configurations based on typical BTS3802C configurations are listed in Table 7-2.

Caution:

In other configurations except the 1×2, 2-antenna receive diversity configuration, you should not install the connectionless jumper.

The reference figures below show the installation of all the transmission cables (E1, T1 and optical fibers) and GPS jumper. When installing on site, you should configure the two kinds of cables according to the actual networking.

7.2.4 Cable Inlet of Outdoor Lightning Protection Box

The outdoor lightning protection box has six cabling holes. Their positions and functions are introduced in Figure 7-7.

7.3 Installing Alarm Cable

7.3.1 Introduction to Alarm Cable

The alarm cable is used to connect the external equipment such as UPS and outdoor lightning protection box. One end of the alarm cable is a cylindrical waterproof connector, and the other end is a DB9 terminal and two bare wires (red and black). Figure 7-8 illustrates the appearance of an alarm cable.

7.3.2 Key Points of Connection

Comply the following points when connecting alarm cable:

The alarm cable connectors of BTS3802C are cylindrical waterproof connectors, so there is no need to implement waterproof treatment to them.

The alarm cable must be sheathed with PVC corrugated pipe. The PVC corrugated pipe should be fastened using black cable ties. Keep the cable route level or upright. The appearance of the cable route should be neat. Make curves at the bents.

After the installation of alarm cable, the cable should be attached with a label. For the usage of labels, please refer to "Appendix B Engineering Labels for Cables".

7.3.3 Connecting Alarm Cable to Outdoor Lightning Protection Box or UPS Separately

Follow the procedure below to connect alarm cable to outdoor lightning protection box or UPS separately:

1) Sheath the alarm cable in PVC corrugated pipes, as shown in Figure 7-9.

2) Connect the cylindrical waterproof connector of the alarm cable to the ALARM port of NMCU.

3) Lead the other end (including DB9 terminal and bare wires) of the alarm cable into the outdoor lightning protection box or UPS.

4) To connect the alarm cable to an outdoor lightning protection box, remove the alarm cable terminal from the lightning protection module. Connect the alarm cable to the position of dry node as shown in Figure 7-10. After that, insert this terminal back to the lightning protection module.

Note:

Because dry node alarming is applied to the 40kA outdoor lightning protection box, alarm cable colors do not relate to plugholes for the cable connectors.

For the position of the alarm cable inlet at the bottom of the outdoor lightning protection box, please refer to “7.2.4 Cable Inlet of Outdoor Lightning Protection Box”.

5) To connect the alarm cable to UPS, connect the DB9 terminal of the alarm cable to the alarm output port on the UPS panel according to the labeling.

6) Bind dangling alarm cable terminal(s) at appropriate position in the outdoor lightning protection box or UPS.

7) Perform waterproof treatment on the PVC corrugated pipe at both ends upon completion of connection. For details, see “Appendix E Waterproof Treatment for Outdoor Connectors”.

7.3.4 Connecting Alarm Cable to Outdoor Lightning Protection Box and UPS Together

Follow the procedure below to connect alarm cable to outdoor lightning protection box and UPS together:

1) Sheath the alarm cable in PVC corrugated pipes, as shown in Figure 7-11.

2) Connect the cylindrical waterproof connector of the alarm cable to the ALARM port of NMCU.

3) Connect the bare wire terminal of the alarm cable to the outdoor lightning protection box and the DB9 terminal to UPS.

4) Remove the alarm cable terminal from the lightning protection module. Connect the bare wire terminal to the position of dry node as shown in Figure 7-12. After that, insert this terminal back to the lightning protection module.

Note:

5) Connect the DB9 terminal of the alarm cable to the alarm output port on the UPS panel according to the labeling.

6) Perform waterproof treatment on the PVC corrugated pipe at both ends upon completion of connection. For details, see “Appendix E Waterproof Treatment for Outdoor Connectors”.

7.4 Installing E1 / T1 Cables

Note:

The installation method of T1 cable is the same as that of 120 Ω E1 cable.

7.4.1 Introduction to E1 / T1 Cables

The E1 / T1 cables of BTS3802C include 75 Ω E1 cable, 120 Ω E1 cable and 100 Ω T1 cable.

The 75 Ω E1 cable is a four-core cable. Its cores are divided into two pairs. One pair is connected to RNC or upper level NodeB and the other one is connected to lower level NodeB. One end of this cable is a cylindrical waterproof connector, and the other end is four SMB terminals.

120 Ω E1 cable and 100 Ω T1 cable are both twisted pair cables. Their cores are divided into two pairs. One pair is connected to RNC or upper level NodeB and the other one is connected to lower level NodeB. One end of each cable is a cylindrical waterproof connector, and the other end is four twisted pair wires.

Figure 7-13 illustrates the appearance of 75 Ω E1 cable and 120 Ω E1 cable.

Note:

The appearance of T1 cable is the same as that of the 120Ω E1 cable.

7.4.2 Key Points of Connection

Comply the following points when connecting E1 / T1cables:

The E1 / T1 cable connectors of BTS3802C are all cylindrical waterproof connectors, so there is no need to implement waterproof treatment to them.

All E1 / T1 cables must be sheathed with PVC corrugated tube, and the PVC corrugated tube must be fixed with black cable ties. Keep the cable routes level or upright. The entire cable distribution is required to have a neat appearance.

The routes of E1 / T1 cables, power cable and RF jumper should avoid crossover. If they are to be routed in parallel, the distance between them should be longer than 3cm.

When BTS3802C is to be connected with transmission equipment, if the connector of transmission equipment has waterproof function, there is no need to implement waterproof treatment to the connecting part between BTS3802C and transmission equipment. If the connector of transmission equipment does not have the waterproof function, then the waterproof treatment is needed. The carry out waterproof treatment, first stretch the waterproof tape, and then use it to wrap up the connecting part by two layers, and finally use black insulation tape to wrap up the connecting part by two layers.

When routing the E1 / T1 cable, make sure that the diameters of the curves at the bents are not 20 times smaller than the diameter of the cable, so as to avoid snapping the cables.

After the installation of trunk cable, the cable should be attached with a label. For the usage of labels, refer to "Appendix B Engineering Labels for Cables".

7.4.3 Connecting E1 Cables to Transmission Equipment

If there is transmission equipment configured, BTS3802C can only adopt the 75 Ω E1 transmission mode. In this case, connect the 75 Ω E1 cable to the transmission equipment according to the procedure below:

1) Sheath the E1 cable in a PVC corrugated tube. 2) Connect the cylindrical waterproof connector of the E1 cable to the E1 port of the

NMCU. 3) Connect the Tx and Rx E1 interfaces (connectors) at the other end of the E1

cable to the corresponding interfaces of the transmission equipment in the IAFB

according to the labeling of the cable. For the description of the characters on the labels for the 75 Ω E1 cable, see Table 7-3.

4) Perform waterproof treatment on the exposed connectors and both ends of the PVC corrugated tubes. For the details, see “Appendix E Waterproof Treatment for Outdoor Connectors”.

7.4.4 Connecting E1 Cables to Upper or Lower Level Equipment

follow the procedure below to connect an E1 cable to the upper or lower level equipment:

1) Sheath the E1 cable in PVC corrugated tube. 2) Connect the bare wire terminal of the E1 cable to the E1 port on the NMCU. 3) To connect a 75 Ω E1 cable, use a male-male SMB terminal to connect the Tx

and Rx interfaces at the other end of the E1 cable to the E1 interfaces of the upper/lower level equipment according to the labeling of the cable. For the description of the labeling of the 75 Ω E1 cable, see Table 7-3.

4) To connect a 120 Ω E1 cable, determine the correspondence between the E1 interfaces of the 120 Ω E1 cable and those of the upper/lower level equipment according to core description table (Table 7-4) attached to the twisted pair. After that, clamp the cores on the 120 Ω digital units in the IAFB. For the descriptions of the cores, see Table 7-4.

5) To connect a 75 Ω coaxial cable with a 120 Ω twisted pair, use a converter or conversion cable for impedance conversion.

7.5 Installing Optical Fiber

7.5.1 Introduction to Optical Fiber

Optical fiber is a 4-core fiber. The BTS3802C is configured with two pairs of single mode fibers. One pair is used to communicate with RNC or upper level NodeB, namely the transmission fiber (WT/WR westward fiber). The other pair is used to communicate with the lower level NodeB or act as E1 transparent transmission port to connect to other NodeB, namely the cascading fiber (ET/ER eastward fiber). One end of each fiber is a cylindrical waterproof connector and the other end is four FC fiber connectors.

Figure 7-14 illustrates the appearance of optical fiber.

7.5.2 Key Points of Connection

Comply the following points when connecting Optical Fibers:

The optical fiber cable connectors of BTS3802C are cylindrical waterproof connector, so there is no need to implement waterproof treatment to them.

The transmission cables must be sheathed with PVC corrugated pipes. The PVC corrugated pipe should be fastened using black cable ties.

Keep the cable route level or upright. The appearance of the cable route should be neat. Make curves at the bents. Coil the extra part of the cable neatly instead of pulling it through PVC corrugated pipe.

When installing the optical fibers, do not forcibly pull the fibers to prevent jam on them. Do not stretch them to prevent damages on them.

When routing optical fiber outside the cabinet, the extra part of the optical fiber must be coiled up on special purpose device, such as optical fiber tray.

The waterproof connector of the optical fiber features coding insertion. In installation, the connector must be applied to the slot.

After the installation of optical fiver cables, the cables should be attached with a label. For the usage of labels, please refer to "Appendix B Engineering Labels for Cables".

7.5.3 Connecting Optical Fiber

To connect an optical fiber, follow the procedure below:

1) Sheath the optical fiber in a PVC corrugated tube. 2) Connect the cylindrical waterproof connector of the optical fiber to the OPT port

on the MCU.

Note:

The cylindrical waterproof connector of an optical fiber is designed with a coding key. Please align the connector with the guiding slot during installation.

3) According to the labels on the fiber, distinguish the Tx from the Rx interfaces (connectors) at the other end of the fiber. After that, connect the interfaces with those of the pigtail fiber from the upper or lower level equipment through a fiber splicing box in the IAFB or through a flange. The labels on the fibers are listed in Table 7-5.

7.6 Installing RF Cables

7.6.1 Introduction to RF Cables

The RF cables of BTS3802C include antenna feeder jumper and connectionless jumper.

The antenna feeder jumper is used for the input and output of RF signals. If BTS3802C is no more than 10 m from the antenna, use a 10m antenna feeder jumper to connect the antenna to the cabinet directly. Otherwise, use an antenna feeder jumper without connectors instead. In the latter case, install an N connector to the end connected to the cabinet and a DIN connector to the end connected to the antenna.

The connectionless jumper is used to realize the receiving branches for NDRU0 and NDRU1 in diversity receiving. It is applicable to the 1×2 configuration of BTS3802C. The both ends of the jumper are DB2W2 connectors. One end is connected to "RxD_IN" on NDRU0 (NDRU1), and the other end is connected to "RxD_IN" on NDRU0 (NDRU1).

Figure 7-15 illustrates the appearance of the RF cables.

7.6.2 Key Points of Connection

Comply the following points when connecting RF cables:

The routes of trunk cable, power cable and RF jumper should avoid crossover. If they are to be routed in parallel, the distance between them should be longer than 3cm.

After the installation of RF jumpers, each cable should be attached with a label. For the usage of labels, please refer to "Appendix B Engineering Label of Antenna & Feeder System" in BTS3802C&RRU Installation Manual – Antenna & Feeder Installation.

7.6.3 Connecting RF Cables

Follow the procedure below to install RF cables:

1) Connect cylindrical waterproof connectors of RF cables to RF ports of NDRU. Table 7-6 lists the connection methods for different networking and configuration modes.

2) Use the waterproof insulation tape to wrap up the connecting part. When wrapping the tape, make sure that the direction is from bottom up and then from top down, and finally from bottom up again. When wrapping in spiral, make sure to cover 1/2 par of the previous ring of tape.

3) Wrap up that part again using PVC tape in the same manner described in step 2).

4) The unused RF port(s) on NDRU(s) should be connected with a 50Ω matching head.

5) Wrap up the connection parts between matching heads and RF ports with waterproof insulation tape and PVC tape in the same manner described in step 2).

6) Connect antenna feeder jumpers and antenna & feeder system. For details, refer to BTS3802C & RRU Installation Manual – Antenna & Feeder System Installation.

7.7.1 Introduction to GPS Jumper

GPS jumper is designed for GPS signal input and output. The end to the BTS3802C is an MCX connector. The other end is an N type female connector. Figure 7-16 illustrates the appearance of the GPS jumper.

7.8 Installing Power Cable

7.8.1 Introduction to Power Cable

The power cable is a 3-core (L, N and PE) cable. The brown core is L. The blue core is N. The yellow-green core is PE. The end to the BTS3802C is a cylindrical

waterproof connector, and the other end is bare wires. This cable connects the BTS3802C and the lightning protection box.

7.8.2 Key Points of Connection

The power cable connectors of BTS3802C are all cylindrical waterproof connectors, so there is no need to implement waterproof treatment to them.

The power cable must be sheathed with PVC corrugated pipes. The PVC corrugated pipe should be fastened using black cable ties. Keep the cable route level or upright. The appearance of the cable route should be neat. Make curves at the bents.

The routes of power cable, antenna feeder jumpers should avoid crossover. If they are to be routed in parallel, the distance between them should be longer than 3 cm.

It is strictly forbidden to add connector to a power cable. A power cable must be composed of only one section of cable.

The AC power cable under the protection of lightning protection box cannot be bound with the power cable without any lightning protection measure taken. In addition, if two power cables are laid in parallel, make sure the distance between them is longer than 10 cm to prevent the impact of induction lightning strike.

After the installation of power cable, the cable should be attached with a label. For the usage of labels, please refer to "Appendix B Engineering Labels for Cables".

7.8.3 Connecting Power Cable to IAFB

Follow the procedure below to connect power cable to the IAFB:

1) Sheath the power cable in PVC corrugated pipes. 2) Connect cylindrical waterproof connectors of power cable to PWR ports of

NPSU. 3) Connect the L line (brown) and N line (blue) of the power cable to any pair of L

terminal and N terminal on the MCB in the IAFB.

4) If there are multiple BTS3802Cs, connect their L lines and N lines to other pairs of terminals on the MCB.

5) If the power cable has a PE line (yellow-green), connect it to the internal grounding bar in the IAFB.

7.8.4 Connecting Power Cable to Outdoor Lightning Protection Box

Follow the procedure below to connect power cable to the outdoor lightning protection box:

1) Sheath the power cable in PVC corrugated pipes. 2) Connect cylindrical waterproof connector of power cable to PWR port of PSU. 3) Connect the L line (brown) and N line (blue) of the power cable to any pair of L

terminal and N terminal on the terminal bar in the outdoor lightning protection box.

Each lightning protection box provides four pairs of L and N output terminals, three of which are for connection with BTS3802C, and the rest is for standby power supply of transmission equipment.

For the position of the power cable outlet at the bottom of the outdoor lightning protection box, please refer to “7.2.4 Cable Inlet of Outdoor Lightning Protection Box”.

7.9 Installing External Power Cable

7.9.1 Introduction to External Power Cable

The external power cable of outdoor lightning protection box is a 2-core (L, N) or 3-core (L, N and PE) cable used to introduce the 220V AC power into lightning protection box. This cable is normally provided by the customer. The L end and N end can be distinguished using electroprobe. If the indicator of the electroprobe is on, the tested end is L, and the other one is N. The core should be a Yellow-green wire.

7.9.2 Key Points of Connection

Comply the following points when connecting external power cable:

The external power cable should be made of a complete piece of cable, instead of multiple pieces of cables joint together.

Avoid crossing the routes of the external power cables, transmission cables and RF cables. When they are routed in parallel, the spacing should be larger than 3 cm.

It is forbidden to route or bind the AC power cable protection by the lightning protection box together with the one without protection. When they are routed in parallel, the spacing should be larger than 10 cm to avoid the impact of inductive lightning.

7.9.3 Connecting External Power Cable

Follow the procedure below to install external power cable of the outdoor lightning protection box:

1) Connect the L line and N line of external power cable to the L terminal and N terminal on the MCB in the outdoor lightning protection box. Figure 7-19

Protection grounding cable of BTS3802C is a yellow-green cable with the cross-sectional area as 16mm2. If the customer is responsible for grounding cable, make sure to select yellow-green cable with cross-sectional area no smaller than 16mm2.

7.10.2 Key Points of Connection

Comply the following points when connecting protection grounding cable of BTS3802C:

with a label. For the usage of labels, please refer to "Appendix B Engineering Labels for Cables".

7.10.3 Connecting Protection Grounding Cable of BTS3802C

Follow the procedure below to install protection grounding cable of BTS3802C:

1) Connect one end of protection grounding cable to the grounding bar of BTS3802C, as shown in Figure 7-20.

2) If an outdoor lightning protection box is configured, connect the other end of the protection grounding cable to the grounding bar on the cover of the outdoor lightning protection box.

4) When two or more BTS3802Cs share a site, the two protection grounding points on their covers BTS3802C should be processed with equipotential interconnection, as shown in Figure 7-21.

7.11 Installing Protection Grounding Cable of Lightning Protection Box

7.11.1 Introduction to Protection Grounding Cable of Lightning Protection Box

Protection grounding cable of lightning protection box is a 30m yellow-green cable with the cross-sectional area as 25mm2. If the user is responsible for grounding cable, it is necessary to select a copper core cable in yellow-green plastic insulation sheath with cross-sectional area no smaller than 25mm2 and length shorter than 30 m.

7.11.2 Key Points of Connection

Comply the following points when connecting protection grounding cable of lightning protection box:

All the protection grounding cables of BTS3802C and other equipment must be connect to the grounding bus bar on the shell of the outdoor lightning protection box or integrated auxiliary box.

It is strictly forbidden to add connector to a protection grounding cable. The cable must be composed of only one section of cable.

7.11.3 Connecting Protection Grounding Cable of Lightning Protection Box

Connect one end of the protection grounding cable to the grounding bus bar on the shell of the outdoor lightning protection box and the other end to the counterpoise.

After confirming all connections, switch on the MCB in the outdoor lightning protection box and then close the enclosure.

Chapter 8 Installation Check

8.1 About This Chapter

This chapter describes the equipment installation check after the completion of the cabinet installation. It covers:

8.2 Equipment Installation Check

Follow the items in Table 8-1 to check the equipment installation.

6 The modules should be inserted in the corresponding slots. The M10x230 bolts on the upper part of the module and the M6x24 captive screw at the lower part should be tightened, and make sure the surface of the module is level.

7 Make sure the levelness of NDRU is smaller than 5°.

8 Clean up both the inside and the outside of the cabinets, including the dead space.

Checking the cabinet installation

9 The integrated equipment should be clean and neat. The external plain should be satisfactory. All identifying labels, tags and nameplates should be correct, legible and complete.

12 Extra length should be reserved beside the connectors on the cable.

13 The binding of the cables should have a neat look. The distances between cable ties should be even. The cable ties should be fastened properly tight, and their directions should be the consistent.

14 Extra tails of the cable ties should be cut off. All cable ties indoors should have their extra tails completely cut off.

15 The power cables and grounding cables should be bound separately from other cables.

16 The cables should be distributed in a way allowing for the maintenance and future expansion.

8.3 Power-on Check

8.3.1 Introduction of BTS3802C Power Distribution

The power distribution within BTS3802C is illustrated in Figure 8-1.

The switches "PWR" and "CTL" in the NSPU maintenance cavity have been switched on before the delivery of BTS3802C. Therefore, the BTS3802C will be started up once powered on.

The NPSU is powered on once the BTS3802C is powered on. The power supply of other modules is decided by the switches PWR and CTL on the NPSU.

8.3.2 Procedure of Power-On Checking

1) Make sure the external input voltage is kept within 150V AC ~ 300V AC. Power on BTS3802C. Make sure that the MCB of the lightning protection box is switched on.

2) Power on the primary power supply of BTS3802C, 3) Check whether the indicators in all the maintenance cavities indicate normal. The

description of the indicators is introduced in Table 8-2, Table 8-3 and Table 8-4. 4) Once abnormality occurs, please power off the BTS3802C immediately. Do not

power on it again until the faults are cleared. 5) If the indicators in the maintenance cavity of NPSU, NMCU and NDRU all

indicate normal, it means that the power supply of BTS3802C is normal.

Appendix A Installation Requirements

A.1 About This Appendix

This appendix describes the requirements the installation site should satisfy, including:

Environment Requirement Construction Requirement Power Supply Requirement Lightning Protection and Grounding Requirement

A.2 Environment Requirement

The site should not be installed in the environment:

With high temperature, dense dust and low air pressure. With corrosive and poisonous smoke and gas. Close to transformer substation, or close to inflammable or explosive substance.

The fire extinguishers should be handy in the installation site. With resistible earthquake intensity lower than the local requirement. With poor ventilation and daylight design. But it is also important to avoid directly

exposing the equipment to the sunlight. If it is impossible to have enough daylight, please use electric lamps to satisfy the lighting.

A.3 Construction Requirement

BTS3802C can be installed on the wall, metal mast, iron tower and support. The following are the requirements for various installation environments:

If BTS3802C is to be installed on a wall, then the wall should be solid, leakproof, dry, noncorrosive and without high voltage leakage. The bearing capacity of the wall should be higher than 100kg, and should be able to fix expansion bolts. It is suggested that the wall be made of cement or bricks rather than stone or sand.

If BTS3802C is to be installed on a metal mast, then the exterior diameter of the metal mast should be within the range of 60mm~114mm. It should also be solid, leakproof, dry, noncorrosive and without high voltage leakage. The bearing capacity of the mast should be higher than 100kg.

If BTS3802C is to be installed on an iron tower, it should be fixed on the metal mast welded on the iron tower. The requirement for the metal mast is the same as the description above.

If there is no wall, iron tower or metal mast available on the site, Huawei can provide the support for the installation of BTS3802C.

The metal mast or the roof should be equipped with holder for holding the antenna. The diameter of the holder is decided by the antenna, normally within 50mm~105mm. A ladder should also be prepared for the convenience of antenna installation.

A.4 Power Supply Requirement

BTS3802C adopts 220V AC power supply mainly. The AC power should satisfy the following points:

Rated voltage: 220V AC Allowed fluctuation range: 150V AC ~ 300V AC Frequency: 50Hz ± 10% Voltage ware-form distortion rate < 5%

In the areas where the voltage of power supply is unstable or power failure often occurs, the user can use the storage battery satisfying the power requirement to provide the power supply to the BTS3802C, or use Huawei's outdoor integrate storage battery box. Huawei's outdoor integrate storage battery box has two types: 26Ah storage battery box (accommodates six 26Ah storage batteries) and 50Ah storage battery box (accommodates six 50Ah or 65Ah storage batteries).

A.5 Lightning Protection and Grounding Requirement

Grounding bars should be available near the site. Lightning arrester should be installed on the top of the antenna mast. It is recommended that the entire lightning protection and grounding system

(lightning arrester, grounding lead, grounding conductor) adopt the same metal as material. Zinc-coated flat steel or Φ16~Φ18 deformed steel is recommended for grounding lead.

The lightning protection device should adopt the 40kA or 100kA AC lightning protection box.

Engineering labels apply to both ends of the various cables to identify the physical positions of cables on different devices. Labels on the cables ensure correct and orderly connection of cables and facilitate maintenance after the installation.

You can print labels according to your special requirements on the description method. However, you must state that in the self-check report.

There are two types of engineering labels for power cables and signal cables respectively.

II. Label for power cables

The label for power cables should be attached to the identification plate on the cable ties that are bundled to the cable. The identification plate has an embossment of 0.2mm×0.6mm around (symmetric on both sides), and the area in the middle is for affixing the label, as shown in Figure B-2 (expressed in mm).

B.2.3 Printing Labels

Note:

The contents on the metal label have been printed before delivery, so there is no need to fill it out during installation.

The contents can be printed or written on the labels. Printing is recommended for the sake of high efficiency and eye-pleasant layout.

I. Template for the printing

The Word-form template is available for label printout. You can download the template from http://tech-support.huawei.com/asp/comm/index.asp (path: //support/technical document/project management/installation and maintenance/document/others), or get the template from Huawei local office.

When using the template, you can directly modify the contents on the template, and the following should be observed:

The settings of centered characters, direction, and fonts should not be changed. When there are too many characters to be filled in, zoom out the characters, but

make sure the printouts are clear and legible.

II. Cells merging on the template

To merge the cells, you should first recover the table structure (if gridlines are displayed, you can start from Step 3 directly).

1) Select the menu item [Edit/Select All]. 2) Select the menu item [Format/Borders and Shading/Borders]. Select Box and

click <OK>. 3) Drag the mouse to select the cells to be merged and select the menu item

[Table/Merge Cells].

If two merged cells are still not enough to accommodate the characters, use multiple lines.

III. Requirements on the printer

To print the labels, laser jet printer must be used, although there is no restriction on the model of the printer. Before printing the label, set up the page and try the printing on ordinary blank paper (both sides are blank):

1) Cover the blank paper onto the whole page of label paper, and check whether the page setup conforms to the requirement.

2) Make sure the printer properties, such as "paper size" and “direction”, have been set correctly.

3) If the warning prompt as shown in Figure B-5 appears before printing, click <Ignore> to continue the printing.

If the printout confoms to the requiremnt, print it to label paper. If the printout does not conform, adjust the page setup and try the printing again, until the correct printout is produced. The method of adjusting the page setup is as follows:

1) Select the menu item [File/Page Setup]. 2) Select the Margins tab page. 3) Select Left for Gutter Position. 4) Set Header and Footer as 0, and adjust the values of Top, Bottom, Left, and

Right.

After the page setup has been made correct, save it for future use. This page setup is only necessary in the first time you use the template to print the labels.

IV. Requirements on feeding the printer

Different from the ordinary paper, the label paper is composed of two pages. No matter what model of printer you are using, feed in the labels one after another by hand. Never use the auto-feed mode in order to avoid jamming the labels. Different models of printers may have different feeding modes, make sure to feed in the labels correctly.

V. Requirements on the printed label

Make sure the printed label satisfy the following requirements:

All the printouts must be on the label, and nothing should be printed on the bottom page of the label.

Contents in the cells should be aligned in the center. In a single-line printout, the dividing lines and the mark “TO” should not be covered by the printed characters.

When the cells are merged and the printouts are made in multiple lines, avoid covering the mark “TO” when printing the texts by using the space bar to move the printing contents to the next line.

VI. Writing Labels

Use the black oiliness markers delivered together with the device to write the labels.

In special cases, black ball-pens are allowed, although not recommended. When writing with the ball-pen, take care not to leave the oil on the label, which may contaminate the label and blur the words..

Note:

The delivered marker has two nibs. Make sure to use the smaller nib to write the labels.

For the sake of easy recognition and good looking, the font in handwriting should be close to the standard typeface as much as possible. Table B-1 shows the standard typeface.

I. Affixing the label to the signal cable

The steps to affix the label to the cable are shown in Figure B-7, Figure B-8 and Figure B-9. The finished labels should be on the right or top of the cables, according to different cabling methods. The left part of the figures shows the method to affix the label when the cable is laid vertically, while the right part of the figures shows the method to affix the label when the cable is laid horizontally.

The label is affixed 2cm from the connector on the signal cable. In special cases, for example, to avoid cable bent or affecting other cables, other positions are allowed to affix the labels.

1) Stick the label to the proper position on the cable, fold the narrow part of the label according to the directions shown in Figure B-7.

The lengh of the narrow part is based on an external cable diameter of 2.6mm, after this part has been stuck to the back of the label, it may not overlap the entire printed part.

II. Affixing the label to the power cable

Remove the label from the bottom page, then affix it to the identification plate on the cable tie. The label should be stuck to the rectangular flute, and should be stuck to only one side of the identification plate. Make sure to affix the labels on the same side of the identification plates. The cable ties are bundled at 2cm from the connectors, and other positions are allowed in special circumstances.

Cable ties should be bundled on both ends of a cable. After the bundling, the finished identification plate should be on top of the cable in horizontal cabling, or on the right side of the cable in vertical cabling. Make sure the label is facing out, as shown in Figure B-10.

III. Affixing the plate to the power cable

Bind the label to the outdoor power cable using black cable ties. The cable ties are usually fastened 10cm~20cm from the end of the cable. A power cable should be attached with labels at both ends. To guarantee that the face of the label faces outward, when the cable is vertically laid, the label should be on the right of the cable, and when the cable is horizontally laid, the label should on the upper side. See Figure B-11.

B.2.5 Information Carried on Labels and plates

I. For labels of signal cables

The signal cable label has two sides after stuck to the cable. The contents in the label indicate the equipment and port the cable connects. In a signal label, Area 1 records

II. For labels of power cables

The power cable label is stick to the side of the cable tie metal plate only. The contents are the equipment this cable connects. The contents on the labels on both ends of the cable should be the same. They record information such as the No. of the mini NodeB (NodeB), storage battery (DC), UPS input/output (UPS-IN/OUT), AC power (AC).

III. For plates of power cables

The contents in the power cable label are POW or PGND, indicating power cable or protection grounding cable.

B.2.6 Remarks

When printing/writing and affixing labels, pay attention to keep the labels clean. Since the label paper is made of moistureproof and waterproof material, ink-jet

printers and ink pens are forbidden for printing and writing labels. Labels should be affixed with good order in alignment. Cable ties should be bundled in the same position of power cables, with

identification plates on the same side. The positions of “up”, “down”, “right” or “left” are all based on the viewpoint of the

engineering person who is working on the label.

B.3 Engineering Labels for Optical Fibers

There are two types of labels for optical fibers: one is for the fiber that connects the optical interfaces on two devices, the other is for the fiber that connects the device and the fiber fusion box. The label is stuck to the fiber connecting equipment and fiber

C.2.1 Parts Required

RJ45 connectors, network cables.

C.2.2 Stripping and Cutting

Strip the cables according to the cable structure and sizes as indicated in Figure C-1 and Figure C-2. Cables assembled by using RJ45 connectors are of two types, namely, round communication cable and flat communication cable, which are shown below in Figure C-1 and Figure C-2 respectively. The length of the stripped segment on either cable is “L+ (2~3mm)”. The meaning of “L” is shown in Figure C-4 while “2~3mm” is the length reserved for wire cutting and flushing.

Caution:

When the round communication cable and the flat telephone line are stripped, make sure that the end of the sheath should be neatly stripped and the cutting angle should be vertical to the cable.

Do not damage the shielding layer around a shielded cable when stripping the cable sheath. After the stripping, fold the shielding layer back to the root of the cable sheath as shown in Figure C-3.

The core wires should be cut neatly, especially for the round communication cable. Spread the core wires evenly apart and cut them neatly with the cutting tool, as shown in Figure C-4.

The length of the truncated cable should be in accordance with the requirements shown in Figure C-4, that is, either the round communication cable or the flat telephone core wire should be “L” in length.

C.2.3 Wire Insertion and Assembly

1) Insert the 8-core flat telephone line from the end of the RJ45 connector until the connector butts against the external protection layer of the cable. Each core wire should be inserted along the trough of the RJ45 connector to the end of the connector, so that the core wires and the RJ45 connector end are flush, as shown in Figure C-5.

2) Round communication cables should be inserted into the connector in the same way mentioned above. The core wire end should be flush so that it is easy to be put in position.

3) Wires in a shielded cable should also be inserted into the connector in the same way, with the folded shielding layer contacting the built-in shielding piece at the tail of the RJ45 connector and butting against point A of the connector. See Figure C-5.

C.2.4 Crimping

After the cable is assembled, crimp the connector using the RJ45 crimping pliers into a finished product as shown in Figure C-6.

Caution:

During the crimping, place the RJ45 connector in the proper trough of the crimping pliers and crimp it as required.

Make sure that the connector is fully crimped. After the crimping, the metal blade should be lower than the top surface of the RJ45 connector.

When crimping a RJ45 connector onto a shielded cable, make sure that metal cutters in the connector are crimped in position and that the built-in shielding piece of the connector securely contacts the shielding layer of the cable.

C.2.5 Checks

1) Outer appearance inspection

Any cable with visible defects such as breakage or crack to the connector shell or to the lock piece or cable out of position, etc. is a reject.

2) Wire order check

Any cable whose wire crimping order does not satisfy the design requirements is a reject.

3) Continuity check

The continuity ratio should be 100% and the wires should not be short-circuited. Otherwise, the cable is a reject.

Caution:

As to the shielded cable assembled with the shielded RJ45 connectors, check the continuity between the shielding shell of the connector and the shielding layer of the cable. Any cable without such a continuity is a reject.

C.3 Cable Assembly by Using SMB Connectors

Following is the most commonly used method to assemble an SMB connector.

C.3.2 Stripping

Use a cable stripper to strip the cable sheath and inner insulating layer without any damage to the shielding layer and internal conductor. The end faces of the cable sheath and inner insulating layer should be flush and smooth. The specific stripping dimensions (in mm) are shown below in Figure C-8.

C.3.3 Soldering Pins

Use the soldering tin with melting point above +125°C to weld the pins with the conductor inside the cable.

In the process of welding, insert the cable conductor into the small central hole at the tail of the pin until the step at the pin tail contact the inner insulating layer of the cable, as shown in Figure C-9.

Caution:

In the process of welding, do not scald the cable inner insulating layer. In the process of welding, try not to let the soldering tin flow out to the exterior face of the pin. In the

case of outflow, they must be cleaned off lest they should affect next process.

C.3.4 Crimping External Conductor

Insert the knurled cylinder of the SMB connector between the inner insulating layer of the cable and the shielding layer so that the shielding layer evenly adheres to the knurled cylinder of the connector. Meanwhile, prop the boss of the pin against the inner insulating core of the connector, as shown in Figure C-10.

Push the crimping sleeve so that it fully covers the shielding wires, then perform crimping using the SMB crimping pliers.

Caution:

Before crimping, check the SMB connector prior to the pre-crimping. Any shielding wires exposed outside the crimping sleeve should be in time curtailed using the scissors before crimping is allowed.

During the crimping, the SMB connector should be properly placed so that it meshes with the crimping mold in the crimping pliers.

C.3.5 Blowing Heat-Shrinkable Tube

Place the heat-shrinkable tubing onto the joint of the crimping sleeve and the cable, evenly blow in hot air by using the hot air gun until the heat-shrinkable tubing evenly shrinks. Refer to Figure C-11 below.

C.3.6 Checks

Continuity check. Use a multimeter to measure the continuity between the connector pin and the inner conductor of the coaxial cable and that between the outer shell of the connector and the shielding layer of the coaxial cable.

Insulation Test. Use a multimeter to measure if short circuit exists between the inner and external conductors.

Tensile strength test. Pull outward the inner pin with proper force (about 60 N) and there should be no visible displacement of the inner pin.

Outer appearance inspection. Check if there is any shielding wire exposed outside or if the pin is not inserted in position, etc.

D.3.1 Cutting the cable

1) Place and roll the cable coils on the support. Measure and cut off a segment of the cable according to the cable layout plan of the project design, as shown in Figure D-2.

2) Cut the cable with a handsaw. Since there are many core wires in the cable and they are relatively thin and soft, the serrulate sawblade (0.8mm teeth spacing) is recommended for the cutting. The cable should be cut, if possible, using a KT35 wire clipper.

D.3.2 Mounting the heat-shrinkable tube

Mount the heat-shrinkable tubing onto the cable from the cable end as required in the cable design.

D.3.3 Stripping

Generally special stripping tools or electrical knives are recommended. The AM35 wire stripper is recommended for round cables if available because it is simple to use.

1) The stripped length is related to the length of the crimping tubing behind the bare terminal. For the JG bare terminal commonly used by Huawei, the relation should comply with the formula: L1=L2+(2~3mm), in which L1 is the stripped length and L2 is the length of the effective crimping area of the JG terminal, as shown in Figure D-3.

2) Remove the insulation layer from the multiple core wires at the end, and strand them tightly. The stranding direction should be the same as the original merging direction of the core wires.

Caution:

When stripping, check with care whether the cable core wires have been seriously oxidized or corroded. If such problems exist, cut off the damaged segment until the cable is free from oxidization or corrosion.

D.3.4 Crimping

1) Crimp the cable with special crimping pliers or special molds. 2) Try to insert the core wires into the wire inlets of the terminal crimping tubing

until they cannot be pushed any further. After this is done, the core wires should protrude out 2~3mm longer than the terminal, as shown in Figure D-4.

3) Before crimping the wiring terminal, place the cable in the connection position so that the contact surface of the wiring terminal is parallel to the bus bar of the power supply. If they are not parallel, hold the end of the terminal using the pliers to adjust it until parallel.

4) During crimping, use the mold of the corresponding cross section. The corresponding molds of the 4 types of power cables are shown in Figure D-5.

5) To ensure the reliability of electrical connection, the crimping position should be as shown in Figure D-6.

As stipulated in the cable design drawings, mount the heat-shrinkable tubing onto the position where the terminal and the cable are joined, and blow the tubing using a heat gun until the tubing shrinks and wraps up tightly, as shown in Figure D-7.

D.3.6 Checks

1) Tensile strength sampling test

The finished product of 50mm2 cables should have a tensile strength of 1KN, 95mm2 cables should have 2KN, 120mm2 cables should have 2.5KN and 240mm2 cables should have 5KN.

2) Outer appearance inspection

The product with an oxidized terminal surface and damaged cable sheath is substandard.

Attach corresponding labels to both ends of the power cable 20mm away from the cable ends.

E.1 About This Appendix

E.2 Introduction to Waterproof Tape

There are two types of waterproof tape needed: PVC tape and waterproof insulation tape, as shown in Figure E-1.

E.3 Waterproof Treatment Procedure

Below is the procedure of waterproof and encapsulation treatment:

1) Clean the connectors. 2) Stick the end of the waterproof insulation tape to the cable at the point 2~5cm

from the connector. 3) Stretch the tape until it is 3/4~1/2 as wide as its original shape. Make sure that the

stretched width is at least 1/2 of the original width, otherwise over-stretching may damage the molecular structure of the tape and lower its reliability).

4) Wrap up the cable spirally upward while maintaining this stretching strength. Make sure that the overlapping area of adjacent tape layers is 1/2 of the stretched width, as shown in Figure E-2.

5) When wrapping to the point 2~5cm another connector or grounding clamp, reverse the direction to let the wrapping goes back towards starting point. When it reaches the starting point, reverse the direction one more time. In this way, the connector is wrapped up with three layers of waterproof insulation tape.

6) After wrapping, squeeze the tape stuck to the connector to make sure no air remains between tape layers.

7) When the wrapping of the waterproof insulation tape is done, it is necessary to wrap it up with PVC tape to prevent the wearing and aging of the waterproof insulation tape.

8) The wrapping of PVC tape is similar to that of waterproof insulation tape. Start wrapping spirally upward with 1/2 width of overlapping between adjacent layers. Reserve the wrapping direction twice to make three-layer cover. Make sure to maintain the stretching strength.
