What a Great Summer for BSO!
SO much happened this summer for BSO. Starting in June, we had a very
successful, fun and rewarding time at the Summer Games at Penn State. The
Games started with a rainy opening ceremonies, but then we had good weather
for the rest of the time.
The Golf team with Coach Ron Lewis had very good results. Tim Lewis, Joey
Robb and Michael Sopko combined to bring home a medal of each color. Tim
Lewis competed in Division 1 with the lowest score for the tournament!
In Bowling Joey Adorno took a very well deserved 1st Place.
Artistic Gymnasts Nicole Ackerman, Kate Delmore, Craig Maurer Rachel
Seibert, Brian Smith, Simone Williams and Zarrah Vitale, and Rhythmic
Gymnasts Kathleen Dezubay, Denise Frey, Heather Gold, Joleen Kocher,
Amanda Reiss, Dedra Sobol, Brittany Thayer, and Hillary Stonewall-
White combined for a total of 59 gold medals and 22 silver medals, with many
fantastic efforts put forth by all the athletes.
Basketballs were flying though the hoops for the Bethlehem athletes. Nathan
Boyle, Marguerite and Theresa Ferguson, Jessica Perez, Angelica Viant
and Christian Vegas competed in the skills competition. The 5v5 Team won gold
with a Team of Ed Altemose, Kasey Brehm, Tyler DeBias, Daniel Hogan,
Brent Hullinger, Lendell Jones, Brandon Krekeler, Joshua Moore,
Jordan Rodriguez, and Chris Wasiewicz. Two 3 v 3 teams attended – in Divi-
sion 1, Karla Gaar, Joe Rosa, Christina Saraceno, and Marcus Tompkins
earned bronze and in Division 4, Meagan Bickel, Bradley Hagerty, Billy Han-
ley, Kathy Kucey and Jan Sidoro earned gold.
Michael Bartek, Evan Harris, and Tim Moyer competed in softball skills,
finishing with a total of one gold and two silver medals.
Fourteen swimmers competed for the BSO Aquatics team: Paul Ahner-Hein,
Trisha Bednarcik, Joel Blazure, Matthew Carver, Briana Horvath, Tonia
Johnson, Amanda Knauss, Rachel MacDonald, Kyle Miller, Tabitha
Roman-Dawkins, Mercedes Semler, Michael Semler, Alison Sehee, and
Gregory Werner. Swimmers were flying though the pool and achieved very good
results, bringing home a total of .10 gold, 20 silver, 11 bronze, 3 fourth, 4 fifth and
3 sixth place awards!
CONGRATULATIONS to all athletes, and a SPECIAL THANKS to all coaches
who attended state games and made it possible for our athletes to compete. Be

Meet the Coaches
From new Volleyball Coach Amanda Sehee
My name is Amanda Sehee and I am the new volleyball head coach. My family and I have been
involved with Special Olympics for 3 years. Our daughter has tried mul�ple sports but has stuck
with swimming over the years, which is where I have spent my �me volunteering. I am very excited to step out a
li"le and try something new. I played volleyball all through high school and have coached at the high school level. I
am looking forward to mee�ng my team and ge#ng our season under way.
Powerlifting Coach Ron Lobb
Ron Lobb has been coaching BSO athletes for the past 3 years. He is a member of the Twin Ci�es
Powerli+ing team and has competed in ADAU and USPL powerli+ing meets for the past 5 years.
Hi is also a state-cer�fied referee for ADAU and is working towards his na�onal cer�fica�on. He
works as a maintenance technician at Lafaye"e College, and his hobbies are camping, mountain
biking, and weightli+ing with his son Daniel. He has already recruited his son to be an assistant
coach for the Bethlehem Special Olympics team!

will be at the September 16 soccer prac�ce.
Boscov’s Friends Helping Friends Day – Tuesday, October 16. Purchase a Friends Helping Friends 25% off shopping
pass for $5. The en�re amount is received by Bethlehem Special Olympics. Use your shopping pass on 10/16/12 for as
many purchases as you make during the day. Some exclusions are listed on the shopping pass. Help to sell passes to

Market Day at Northeast MS – Want an easy way to fix dinner? Each month you can place a food order online from
Market Day and then pick up your order at Northeast Middle School on the specified date. How does it work? Go to
Marketday.com and register under Northeast Middle School. For more informa�on, contact Dawn Urban (484) 515-
4712. For September, online orders must be in by Sept.6th and pickup is Sept 20th between 3:30-4:30. If by chance
you miss the September sale there is always next month.
The BSO Booster Club supports sports training and compe��on ac�vi�es and the athletes, through fundraising,
awareness, and involvement of volunteers and athletes. The Booster Club meets the third Thursday of each month at
Valley Family Restaurant, 2816 Easton Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017. Next mee�ng will be Thursday, September 20th
,

On 22 September 2012, the third global Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day (EKS
Day) will be celebrated around the world, bringing together people with and
without intellectual disabilities in sport activities to honor the inspiration,
impact and indomitable spirit of Eunice Kennedy Shriver. While nearly 4
million Special Olympics athletes and millions of coaches, families, fans and
friends live her legacy and lead our movement every day, we unite on EKS Day
in over 100 countries and thousands of communities to show the world the
power of sport to create opportunities of acceptance.

On Saturday, September 29, the Morning Star Rotary will host its 22th
Anniversary 5k run to support Bethlehem Special Olympics! To sponsor the race,
to register to walk or run in the race or for more general information, go to:

ATHLETES AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – we can thank the Rotary by helping at this event. Race fees are waived for any athlete wishing to run in the race. Athletes and families may volunteers to hand out water, direct runners along the course, and just be there to cheer on the racers. Do you like it when fans cheer for you? It would be great if we could have a line of athlet es on either side of the finish giving a “high five” to e ach runner! After the race, there will be a chance for the participants to greet our athletes while the results are tallied and awards presented – there will be music and, who knows, maybe some dancing too! To volunteer, contact Louise Tusak at 610-865-7730. COME OUT AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THIS EVENT THAT HAS PROVIDED SO MUCH FOR OUR SPORTS PROGRAMS!!
