Most visible are efforts to redo the basketball courts -- the Katie Broecker Basketball Court looks good! Lights are being installed on the soccer field -- the goals and bleachers are being painted, and there have been a number of hotly contested soccer matches against other schools. But much solid, less visible work goes on every day: Grade 6 students learning cartography, making maps of Haiti; Grade 4 students writing stories, filling them with sensory details; Creative Writing students publishing a literary journal; Seniors grappling with British Literature; and students at all levels solving equations, memorizing Scripture, crafting essays. Another important way that QCS moves forward is through professional development. QCS staff commit to growing in order to increase student achievement and to impact the world of learning for Christ. This year, as part of our professional development plan, QCS is pleased to welcome Bruce Lockerbie (see attached flier for more information) to campus on November 10 - 12. He will challenge the staff, board, and administration to work hard for excellence. Dr. Lockerbie founded Paideia, Inc., an institutional consulting firm that is dedicated to excellence in all areas of leadership, development, education, and higher learning. Parents are invited to join with the staff to hear Dr. Lockerbie on Monday at 4:00 in the Chapel, where he will give a talk on “The Unity of All Truth Under God.” You won’t want to miss this, and I hope to see you there! Everyday, every activity, every program, QCS works for excellence -- thanks for joining us on that journey Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Introducing . . . Jean Graham

My Name is Jean Graham. My family and I arrived in Haiti in May 2006. We work with CSI ministries here in Port-au-Prince. Before coming to Haiti, I was an elementary teacher in the same school district where I grew up. I lived in this rural farming community my entire life. My husband, Jeff and I have four children. Our oldest son is married. He and his wife live in Indiana, and have our two precious grandchildren, Clara who is two and a half, and Carter who has just turned one. Our only daughter is married and lives with her husband in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Our middle son is a senior at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. Eli is our youngest child and he is here with us in Haiti. I decided to go to college after I was married and the mother of three of our children. I graduated from Manchester College in Indiana about one month before Eli was born. I earned my masters degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2001. I have taught in three different school districts, including Quisqueya. I enjoy spending my days with elementary age children. They are a blessing to me and I am always learning from them. When not teaching, I enjoy gardening, reading, baking, and spending time with family and friends. I feel blessed to be here at this stage in my life and look forward to what the Lord has in store for me in the future. I strive to be a faithful follower of His, blooming wherever He chooses to plant me! November 4, 2008 Dear Quisqueya Christian School Parents, Your QCS Parent Action Committee is planning now for the annual Christmas Bazaar to be on Saturday, December 6th from 1-6 p.m. We hope you will make plans to attend! The Christmas Bazaar will be open to the public. Our security committee is very serious and is committed to keeping a safe atmosphere on campus. However, we do ask that children NOT be left unattended at this event. The purpose of the Christmas Bazaar is to spread some holiday cheer, and for PAC and QCS high school classes to raise money. For PAC, monies raised will come from gate entry fees and food sold and will be used for the fall and spring QCS family picnics and other PAC sponsored events during the year. The QCS Senior class will receive the proceeds of the vendor booths and from the sales of the dessert table which will help to pay for their year end trip. Other QCS classes are encouraged to rent booth space to raise money on items sold for their class projects. PAC still needs plenty of help for this event. Specifically, we need parents who are willing to fill a one or two hour post the day of the Bazaar for any of the following committees: tickets, security and/or food. If you would like to participate and have not yet been contacted, please notify a PAC member or give your name at the QCS front office. Another need is vendors who would like to come and sell their items. Booth prices this year are $50 USD for a 3x3 meter booth space, or $30 for a half space (see more details on the attached applications). It is our desire to give shoppers lots of exciting things to shop for, so if you or someone you know is interested in participating, please fill out the attached application and return it to the QCS front office. Please join us in our excitement for this year’s Christmas Bazaar. If you need any assistance or information, please contact one of us! Sincerely, Toby Banks, Beth Charles, Miquette Denie, Tony DeKoter, Ann Farquharson, Jeanette Felix, Youri Hadad, Samar Jiha, Ruth Van Dam and Julie White.
