November 2017 Friday 10th November PSA Bake Sale (Cookie Friday) Tuesday, 14th November Class Rep Meeting Wednesday 15th November Year 3 Trip to Bear Farm Meet SLT (PSA Coffee Morning) Monday, 20th November Report Writing Starts Monday, 27th November Secondary Careers Day
Dear Parents Welcome back! I hope that you all enjoyed a restful half term break with friends and family. Meet SLT (PSA Coffee Morning) All parents are invited to join myself and the rest of the school’s senior leadership team on Wednesday 15th No-vember for our first Meet SLT of this academic year. This term’s meeting provides an opportunity for us to share in various updates on progress within the school, to outline the key elements of our School Development Plan and to exchange some ideas and perspectives in our question and answer session. The meeting begins in the Auditori-um after drop-off. Uniform It has been a pleasure to walk round the school this week and see how smart the secondary students in years 7 to 10 look in their new Winter uniforms. Thank you to all parents of students in these year groups for being so re-ceptive to the change. Staffing updates Several new members of staff have joined our support teams over the last few weeks. Bálint Rókás took up posi-tion as Premises Coordinator working alongside and leading our maintenance team, prior to the half term break. Rita Guzmics joined us mid- way through the holiday as Assistant Admissions and Marketing Officer to Katalin Bodnár. Barbara Jenjaroentham joins our front of house team, working in the reception area, developing our use of data and supporting staff with coordinating educational trips and visits. I am sure you will give them a very warm welcome to the Britannica community. One staff leaver is Neil Campbell, our Business, EAL and Economics teacher. Neil is taking up a full-time perma-nent post in Denmark and leaves us on 24th November. I would like to thank him for his hard work and flexibility since joining the school on maternity cover two years ago and wish him well on his new adventure. I will formally introduce his replacement in next week’s Newsletter. Maintenance and refurbishment Although only four days were available, due to the Bank Holiday on Wednesday, several important pieces of work took place around the school site, during the break. The Music room underwent several improvements including having fitted desks and storage shelves installed whilst the new Admissions Office is undergoing a complete make-over. I am sure that you will also have noticed how much better the carpets are looking, particularly the older secondary ones, after being ‘deep cleaned’. After school snack bar Unfortunately, due to a lack of demand from the Britannica community, our after school snack provider is no longer able to continue his service. Mr Bartolo is sorry to leave Britannica and thanks everybody for the support he has received. Have a great weekend Kind regards Neil McGarry (Principal)

This half term Year 2 will be learning about the Titanic and how it was
built. The children will build a boat using different materials and test
what shape it needs to be to make it float and hold marbles. In ICT the
children used their chrome books to carry out a research about Titanic
facts.
In Science the children will also have the opportunity to test and understand how icebergs float. Working in
groups the children will decide how many more adults and children could have been saved in maths lesson.
In Art the children mixed colours together to create the sky and sea for a Titanic painting. We encouraged
the children to focus on light and shadows, so they can create an iceberg for their painting.
Finally, the children will create a collage of the
Titanic and will make a boat with a plastic bottle
with airtight sections to test how quickly it
sinks, when a section fills with water.

Dear BIS Family,
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable term break, and welcome back. Before we get to future business I want to say
what great decorations the 29 countries presented for International Day. It was a special day, and a special thanks to Zita
Havasi for taking all the leftover foods to the Oljalom Karitativ Egyesulet Homeless Center on Danko Utca.
Next week we have a Class Reps meeting on Tuesday morning with Mrs. Moreton and on Wednesday morning we have a
PSA Coffee Morning with the school senior leadership team (SLT). Please mark your calendars and be prepared for a
lively discussion. The SLT will answer any pressing questions you may have concerning your child's education and wel-
fare.
The next important event is Brilliant Britannica which will be held on 15 Dec. This is a school event where each class
prepares items for sale on that day. The proceeds of the sale go to a charity selected by the school. PSA provides logisti-
cal and vendor support to the school. In that vein, if you would be interested in setting up a vendor table, or if you have
any vendor contacts that would be interested in the same, or if you would like to help with the hot drinks and children's
tables, please contact myself or an executive committee member immediately. More to follow when we have a school
draft schedule for that day.
Also, Mrs Havasi has been supporting an orphanage for a few years and is conducting a charity drive. She is planning
on taking Santa Claus and a Kid's band to the orphanage to give them a different experience for Christmas. She is asking
for help and is in need of:
Approximately 150 small bags of chocolate, kids books in Hungarian, toys (plush, or board games, cards, etc), good quali-
ty bed linen (preferably with kids pictures on it, Disney), and toiletries for the bigger kids. If you would like to help,
please contact her directly at [email protected].
Just a reminder for the Mural project. The student council and the school are embarking on a project to paint murals on
the walls outside the Year 2 Medway classroom (see pictures attached below). The project is in the early planning stages
with an early Spring 2018 completion date. Volunteers are needed that can help in any way possible. So, if you are an
artist, mural painter, landscape designer, engineer, materials planner, etc., or have contacts in any of those areas, please
contact myself or Mrs. Moreton to volunteer.
