BRITANNICA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Friday June 23 rd 2017 NEWSLETTER Upcoming Events Number 38 Dear Parents Welcome to the final Newsletter of this Academic year. I cannot believe how time has flown since my arrival in Janu- ary. So much has happened and I would like to thank all of the staff, students and parents at Britannica for all their hard work and support over the last two terms. I am already excited and looking forward to the next school year. Prize giving assemblies We celebrated a full range of student successes in our Prize Giving Assemblies for primary and secondary this morn- ing. There was much to celebrate across all year groups and subject areas. It was fantastic to see the wide range of awards on offer covering the full spectrum of skills, achievements and effort. Academic excellence was a major feature but it was great to see students also recognised for their music, art, language, sports and drama abilities. At Britanni- ca, we fully uphold the values of global citizenship and developing the whole person so it was fantastic to see these areas rewarded. I congratulate all trophy and prize winners and encourage all students to continue to aspire to great- ness over the next twelve months. Britannica’s Got Talent. What a fantastic morning of entertainment we have had from our BGT finalists. All year groups were represented and the standard of the performances was exceptional. I would like to congratulate all the students who took part and thank Miss Cameron and Miss Bilska for hosting and organising plus Mr Balint for his wizardry in the producers booth. It is a truly unique event in the school calendar. During the judging period the staff band performed a resounding rendition of ’sweet home Alabama’ from which my ears are still ringing! Thank you to everyone for their commitment and willing- ness to get involved. Pictures and further reflections on these events are included within the pages of the newsletter Site Development Plans Over this summer we will have a number of works taking place on our school site to support us with our expansion plans. We have alterations to our ’purple area’ with additional classroom space and also the creation of extra teaching rooms for secondary in room 18, next too the nurse’s office. This works is in addition to refurbishment of the lower corri- dors of the school and other necessary maintenance. As mentioned at our recent ’Meet SLT’, there will be an additional class in year 8 and this obviously requires further development of the site as we continue to grow. These changes are all part of a broader long term approach to improving the school site for all of our students. Extra-Curricular Clubs 2017/8 We will be sharing the new Part 1 ECA schedule with you all at the end of August in preparation for the first week of term when the electronic sign up system will open up. ’Schools’ out for Summer’ I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our leaving staff the very best for their futures. You will all be missed and I thank you for the contribution you have made to the life of the school. Although I have only known you a short while, I appreciate all the time, effort and quality that you have put in to your work and the value you have added to the lives of the students. To all the students who are leaving, I wish you happiness and success in your future lives. We hope that you have enjoyed your time at Britannica and will remember us fondly. Good luck and don’t forget to work hard and follow your dreams, wherever they may take you. To all of you who will be returning again in August, I wish you a relaxing and enjoyable summer. We look forward to welcoming you all and our new families to Britannica for the start of term on Thursday 24th August. Best wishes Neil McGarry Principal June 2017 Thursday, 24th August First Day of School

PSA End of Year Newsletter

23 Jun 2017

Dear BIS Family,

As we approach the end of another school year, and a welcomed summer break, I would like to

take this opportunity to introduce the new PSA Executive Committee. The following parents

and PSA members have graciously volunteered and were confirmed to serve as follows: Presi-

dent - undersigned; Vice President - Mrs Anita Ajan; Secretary - Mrs Myriam dos Santos; Treas-

urer - Mrs Divya Jitesh.

It is our goal to promote a collaborative collegial atmosphere with BIS senior leadership and

parents when advocating for our children's benefit.

As we move closer to the beginning of the next school year we will need support from you for a

variety of events ranging from Teacher Appreciation to International Day. To start the 2017-

2018 school year we will need Class Representatives in place. Please respond soonest if you are

interested in being a Class Representative, or if you wish to consider volunteering your time for

one of the other worthwhile initiatives. Attached please find a tentative event calendar for your

information.

I want to thank Jacqueline Parkin, Noi Sirigamon Saralamba, Molly Jobin, Jeremy Foy, Peter

Szekely, Alessia Michelangeli, Divya Jitesh, Myriam dos Santos, and Anita Ajan for their efforts

with the ice scream (cream) social. The weather improved just in time for them to provide a

multitude of ice cream cones to our children. A very successful event where fun was had by

all!!

A special thank you goes out to Molly Jobin for her outstanding support as the interim PSA Sec-

retary and as a driving force for the PSA reorganization. We'll miss you and best of luck on

your return to the US.

And, I wish to thank Mr. McGarry and his staff for a successful school year and we look for-

ward to a very successful and productive 2017-2018 school year.

In closing please have a safe and fun summer, and we look forward to working with each and

every one of you in the near future.

Respectfully,

Ray Rabatin

BIS/PSA President
