very common thing between men of Brazil is to greet each other, by shaking handshowever they do not maintain eye contact. In Brazil there is an unwritten rule thatimplies the age and status so that means that the younger or less powerful person

will look away.It is important that you shake hands with everyone in a small group . Women on theother hand will kiss each other on both cheeks. Women also kiss when they are aboutto leave. When speaking, Brazilians stand very close to each other. If by accident theybrush or bump each other, they do not have to apologize. They are use to have a lot of physical contact when speaking with each other. If one person backs away, it will hurt

    the other person s feelings.

It is frequently used in Brazil and is normallywhen disagreeing in a soccer match. One gesture that is also used is one toaggressively say screw you. It basically consists of making a fist with one hand andslapping it on top of the other hand once or twice. It is used commonly aroundBrazilian friends but it would not be appropriate to use at any other occasion. Do not give anything that is too expensive and is clearlynoticeable . Your good intentions will only causeembarrassment or may be misinterpreted as a bribe.
