Sensory Rooms! Finally the day has arrived! Aiming Higher has just had the eagerly

anticipated sensory rooms refurbished. Thanks to several contribu-

tors which include Vera Wolstencroft Charitable Trust, Screwfix and

the Rank Foundation, we have managed to revamp these much

outdated rooms. Thank you also to the Sensory Company for

providing us with these amazing facilities and Dale Hopkins for

helping with the electrics! Thank you to Rushworth Painting

Contractors and J and C Joinery for the last finishing touches. As you

can see it has only been a week but the children are taking full

advantage of a beautiful new and interactive space.

On Monday 10th October Aiming Higher started its first week of

activities funded by Children in Need. The groups are aimed at

children with additional needs, their siblings and parent/carers.

It was an action packed week filled with a variety of different

activities. The breakfast club with Jo Jingles was one of our pop-

ular sessions getting everyone of all ages up and moving! The

evening was followed by a lovely pamper session and afternoon

tea which was a real treat for the parents. Its often difficult for a

parent to find the time for such luxury when juggling appoint-

ments and meetings that go hand in hand with raising a child

with additional needs.

Fylde Coast Ice Arena

On Saturday 8th October 2016 we had the opportunity to take local Blackpool families to the Fylde Coast Ice Arena. The outing was absolutely magical. As you can imagine, there are very few and far between activities that are accessible for wheelchair users. The Fylde Coast Ice Arena surpassed all level of expectations and went above and beyond for all children and adults attending the event. Nothing was too much for this new business and any problems on the night were quickly addressed, even opening a second rink, so a young gentleman in an electric wheelchair could venture on the ice, avoiding the slight drop on the main rink. The evening was topped off with some lovely hot grub for the families.

World Mental Health Day

Hosted by Viva Blackpool

The event was a great opportunity for Blackpool residents to gain

information and advice. It also gave an opportunity for people to

hear what local services had to offer! The occasion also gave the

Aiming Higher staff a platform to promote our fabulous counselling

service which is provided by Blackpool and Fylde college students.

to utilise this valuable service.
