Côte d’Ivoire Caravan March 12-17, 2012
Beginning in 2010, the Abidjan-Bamako and Abidjan-Ouagadougou corridors were added to the USAID-UEMOA road governance initiative, joining Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Senegal and Togo.
When monitoring began, the corridor was riddled with checkpoints, particularly in its northern half, which was controlled by a rebel force.
The first surveys showed Cote d’Ivoire with the worst level of checkpoints.
The most recent map shows a marked improvement.
Checkpoints, bribes and delays have all declined since the USAID-UEMOA road governance initiative began monitoring the indicators… …particularly bribery, which has fallen by 50% - from 62,887 CFA (about US$140) to 31,334 (about US$70).

Private sector stakeholders participated in the workshops that visited five major cities along the Abidjan-Bamako and Abidjan-Ouagadougou corridors.
Government officials participated in the caravan that reached more than 500 transport stakeholders along the entire length of the primary corridor in Cote d’Ivoire.
When the caravan encountered this unofficial checkpoint, it was quickly dismantled.
