Yerusalem will e des!royed

2 BARUCH 1:1

And it happened in the twenty-fifth year of YeconiYah (Jeconiah), the king of Yahudah,that the Word of YAHWEH came to Baruch, the son of eriah,

2 BARUCH 1:2

And said to him! Ha"e you seen a## that this peop#e are doing to $E, the e"i# thingswhich the two tri%es which remained ha"e done more than the ten tri%es which werecarried away into capti"ity&

2 BARUCH 1:3

'or the former tri%es were forced %y their kings to sin, %ut these two ha"e themse#"esforced and compe##ed their kings to sin

2 BARUCH 1:4

Beho#d, therefore, sha## %ring e"i# upon this city and its inha%itants And it wi## %e takenaway from %efore $Y presence for a time And sha## scatter this peop#e among thenations that they may %e %eneficia# to the nations

2 BARUCH 1:5And $Y peop#e wi## %e chastened, and the time wi## come that they wi## #ook for thatwhich can make their times prosperous

*his, then, ha"e said to you that you may say to YermeYah(Jeremiah) and a## thosewho are #ike you that you may retire from this city 'or your works are for this city #ike afirm pi##ar and your prayers #ike a strong wa##

And said!

+ YAHWEH, o"ereign $aster, ha"e therefore come into the wor#d to see the e"i#things of my mother&

o, o"ereign $aster f ha"e found free unmerited fa"or and pardon in Y+. eyes,take away my ruach first that may go to my fathers and may not see the destructionof my mother

'or from two sides am hard pressed! cannot resist Y+, %ut my sou# a#so cannot%eho#d the e"i# of my mother But one thing sha## say in Y+. presence, + YAHWEH!ow, what wi## happen after these things&

+r wi## the uni"erse return to its nature and the wor#d go %ack to its origina# si#ence&

And wi## the mu#titude of the sou#s %e taken away and wi## not the nature of man %ementioned again&

2 BARUCH 4:1And YAHWEH said to me!*his city wi## %e de#i"ered up for a time,And the peop#e wi## %e chastened for a time,And the wor#d wi## not %e forgotten

+r do you think that this is the city of which said! +n the pa#ms of $Y hands ha"ecar"ed you&

t is not this %ui#ding that is in your midst now0 it is that which wi## %e re"ea#ed, with $E,that was a#ready prepared from the moment that decided to create 1aradise And

showed it to Adam %efore he sinned But when he transgressed the commandment, itwas taken away from him - as a#so 1aradise

After these things showed it to $Y ser"ant A%raham in the night %etween the portionsof the "ictims

And again showed it a#so to $osheh on $ount inai when showed him the #ikeness ofthe ta%ernac#e and a## its "esse#s

Beho#d, now it is preser"ed with $E - as a#so 2ingdom 1aradise

And another ma#ak came down from hea"en and said to them, 7Ho#d your torches anddo not #ight them %efore say it to you

Because was sent first to speak a Word to the earth and then to deposit in it whatYAHWEH, the $ost High, has commanded me7

And saw that he descended in the 2odesh of Ha2odesh and that he took from therethe "ei#, the kodesh ephod, the mercy seat, the two ta%#es, the kodesh raiment of thekohenim, the a#tar of incense, the forty-eight precious stones with which the kohenimwere c#othed, and a## the kodesh "esse#s of the ta%ernac#e

And he said to the earth with a #oud "oice!Earth, earth, earth, hear the Word of the A8$5H*Y YAHWEH,and recei"e the things which commit to you,and guard them unti# the #ast times,so that you may restore them when you are ordered,so that strangers may not get possession of them

2 BARUCH 6:9'or the time has arri"ed when Yerusa#em wi## a#so %e de#i"ered up for a time, unti# themoment that it wi## %e said that it wi## %e restored fore"er

And the earth opened its mouth and swa##owed them up

2 BARUCH 7:1

And after these things heard this ma#ak saying to the ma#akim who he#d the torches:

ow destroy the wa##s and o"erthrow them to their foundations so that the enemies donot %oast and say, 7We ha"e o"erthrown the wa## of 3ion and we ha"e %urnt down thep#ace of the A8$5H*Y YAHWEH7 And they restored me to the p#ace where oncestood

2 BARUCH 8:1

ow the ma#akim did as he had commanded them0 and when they had %roken up thecomers of the wa##, a "oice was heard from the midst of the 5reat *a%ernac#e after thewa## had fa##en, saying:

Enter, enemies, and come, ad"ersaries, %ecause he who guarded the house has #eft it

You, farmers, sow not again And you, + earth, why do you gi"e the fruit of yourhar"est& 2eep within you the sweetness of your sustenance

And you, "ine, why do you sti## gi"e your wine& 'or an offering wi## not %e gi"en againfrom you in 3ion, and the firstfruits wi## not again %e offered

2 BARUCH 10:11

And you, hea"en, keep your dew within you, and do not open the treasuries of rain

2 BARUCH 10:12

And you, sun, keep the #ight of your rays within you And you, moon, e/tinguish themu#titude of your #ight 'or why shou#d the #ight rise again, where the #ight of 3ion isdarkened&

2 BARUCH 10:13

And you, %ridegrooms, do not enter, and do not #et the %rides adorn themse#"es

2 BARUCH 10:14

And you, wi"es, do not pray to %ear chi#dren, for the %arren wi## re4oice more And thosewho ha"e no chi#dren wi## %e g#ad, and those who ha"e chi#dren wi## %e sad

'or why do they %ear in pains on#y to %ury in grief&

2 BARUCH 10:16

+r why shou#d men ha"e chi#dren again& +r why shou#d the generation of their kind %enamed again, where this mother is #one#y, and her chi#dren ha"e %een carried away incapti"ity&

2 BARUCH 10:17

Henceforth, do not speak anymore of %eauty, and do not ta#k a%out come#iness

2 BARUCH 10:18

You, kohenim, take the keys of the sanctuary, and cast them to the highest hea"en, andgi"e them to YAHWEH and say, 75uard Y+. house Y+.E8', %ecause, %eho#d, we

ha"e %een found to %e fa#se stewards7

And you, "irgins who spin fine #inen, and si#k with go#d of +phir, make haste and take a##things, and cast them into the fire, so that it may carry them to H$ who made themAnd the f#ame sends them to H$ who created them, so that the enemies do not takepossession of them

2 BARUCH 11:1

ow this , Baruch, say to you, + Ba%y#on! f you had #i"ed in happiness and 3ion in its

sp#endor, it wou#d ha"e %een a great sorrow to us that you had %een e:ua# to 3ion2 BARUCH 11:2

But now, %eho#d, the grief is infinite and the #amentation is unmeasura%#e, %ecause,%eho#d, you are happy and 3ion has %een destroyed

Who wi## 4udge o"er these things& +r to whom sha## we comp#ain a%out that which has%efa##en us&

2 BARUCH 11:4

+ YAHWEH, how ha"e Y+ %orne it& +ur fathers went to rest without grief and, %eho#d,the righteous s#eep at rest in the earth

2 BARUCH 11:5

'or they did not know this anguish nor did they hear that which has %efa##en us

2 BARUCH 11:6

Wou#d that you had ears, + earth and wou#d that you had a heart, + dust, so that youmight go and announce in the rea#m of death and say to the dead,

2 BARUCH 11:7

7You are more happy than we who #i"e7

2 BARUCH 12

2 BARUCH 12:1

But sha## say as think and sha## speak to you, + #and, that which is happy

2 BARUCH 12:2*he afternoon wi## not a#ways %urn nor wi## the rays of the sun a#ways gi"e #ight

2 BARUCH 12:3

;o not think and do not e/pect that you wi## a#ways ha"e happiness and 4oy, and do notraise yourse#f too much and do not oppress

'or sure#y wrath wi## arise against you in its own time, %ecause #ong-suffering is nowhe#d %ack, as it were, %y reins

2 BARUCH 12:5

And ha"ing said these things, fasted for se"en days

2 BARUCH 13:1

And after these things, it happened that , Baruch, was standing on $ount 3ion and,%eho#d, a "oice came from the high hea"ens, saying to me:

tand upon your feet, Baruch, and hear the Word of the A8$5H*Y YAHWEH

2 BARUCH 13:3

Because you ha"e %een astonished at that which has %efa##en 3ion, you wi## sure#y %epreser"ed unti# the end of times to %e for a testimony

2 BARUCH 13:4

*his means that if these happy cities wi## e"er say, 7Why has the A8$5H*Y YAHWEH%rought upon us this retri%ution&7,

You and those who are #ike you, those who ha"e seen this e"i# and retri%ution comingo"er you and your nation in their own time, may say to them that the nations wi## %ethorough#y punished7

2 BARUCH 13:6

And this they may e/pect

2 BARUCH 13:7

And when they say in that time, 7When&7, you wi## say to them:

2 BARUCH 13:8

You who ha"e drunk the c#arified wine, you now drink its dregs, for the 4udgment ofYAHWEH the $ost High is impartia#

2 BARUCH 13:9

*herefore, HE did not spare H own sons first, %ut HE aff#icted them as H enemies

%ecause they sinned

2 BARUCH 13:10

*herefore, they were once punished, that they might %e forgi"en

2 BARUCH 13:11

But now, you nations and tri%es, you are gui#ty, %ecause you ha"e trodden the earth a##this time, and %ecause you ha"e used creation unrighteous#y

2 BARUCH 13:12

'or ha"e a#ways %enefited you, and you ha"e a#ways denied the %eneficence

2 BARUCH 14

W#a! is !#e %rofi! of ei&* ri*#!eous+

2 BARUCH 14:1

And answered and said! Beho#d, Y+ ha"e shown me the course of times, and that

which wi## happen after these things2 BARUCH 14:2

And Y+ ha"e to#d me that the retri%ution of that which has %een spoken %y Y+ wi##come upon the nations And now, know there are many who ha"e sinned and whoha"e #i"ed in happiness and who ha"e #eft the wor#d, %ut there wi## %e few nations #eft inthose times to which those Words can %e spoken which Y+ said

2 BARUCH 14:3

'or what is the ad"antage (of this), or what e"i# worse than that which we ha"e seen%efa## us can we e/pect to see&

2 BARUCH 14:4

But wi## continue to speak %efore Y+

2 BARUCH 14:5

What ha"e they profited who ha"e know#edge %efore Y+, and who did not wa#k in"anity #ike the rest of the nations, and who did not say to the dead! 75i"e #ife to us,7 %uta#ways feared Y+ and did not #ea"e Y+. ways&

And, %eho#d, they ha"e %een di#igent and, ne"erthe#ess, Y+ had no mercy on 3ion ontheir account

2 BARUCH 14:7

And if there are others who did e"i#, 3ion shou#d ha"e %een forgi"en on account of theworks of those who did mora#y right works and shou#d not ha"e %een o"erwhe#med%ecause of the works of those who acted unrighteous#y

2 BARUCH 14:8

+ YAHWEH, o"ereign $aster, who can understand Y+. 4udgment& +r who cane/p#ore the depth of Y+. way&

2 BARUCH 14:9

+r who can discern the ma4esty of Y+. path& +r who can discern Y+.incomprehensi%#e counse#& +r who of those who are %orn has e"er disco"ered the%eginning and the end of Y+. Wisdom&

2 BARUCH 14:10

'or we a## ha"e %een made #ike %reath

2 BARUCH 14:11

'or as %reath ascends without human contro# and "anishes, so it is with the nature of

men, who do not go away according to their own wi##, and who do not know what wi##happen to them in the end

2 BARUCH 14:12

'or the righteous 4ust#y ha"e e/ce##ent hope for the end and go away from thisha%itation without fear %ecause they possess with Y+ a store of mora#y right workswhich is preser"ed in treasuries

2 BARUCH 14:13

*herefore, they #ea"e this wor#d without fear and are confident of the wor#d which Y+ha"e promised to them with an e/pectation fu## of 4oy

2 BARUCH 14:14

But woe to those of us who ha"e a#so now %een treated shamefu##y and who await e"i#sat that time

2 BARUCH 14:15

But Y+ know e/act#y what Y+ ha"e made of Y+. ser"ants, for we are not a%#e tounderstand that which is e/ce##ent #ike Y+, YAHWEH our 6reator

2 BARUCH 14:16

sha## continue to speak %efore Y+. presence, + YAHWEH, o"ereign $aster

2 BARUCH 14:17

When in the %eginning the wor#d did not e/ist with its inha%itants, Y+ de"ised andspoke %y means of Y+. Word and at the same time the works of Y+. creation stood%efore Y+

2 BARUCH 14:18

And Y+ said that Y+ wou#d make a man for this wor#d as a guardian o"er Y+.works that it shou#d %e known that he was not created for the wor#d, %ut the wor#d forhim

And YAHWEH answered and said to me! You are right#y astonished a%out man

*herefore, the mu#titude of time that he #i"ed did not profit him, %ut it %rought deathand cut off the years of those who were %orn from him

+r what did it harm $osheh that he #i"ed on#y one hundred and twenty years and,%ecause he su%4ected himse#f to H$ who created him, he %rought the *orah to thedescendants of Yaco% and he #ighted a #amp to the generation of Yisrae#&

2 BARUCH 18

2 BARUCH 18:1

And answered and said! He who #ighted took from the #ight, and there are few whoimitated him

2 BARUCH 18:2

But many whom he i##uminated took from the darkness of Adam and did not re4oice inthe #ight of the #amp

2 BARUCH 19

2 BARUCH 19:1

And HE answered and said to me! *herefore he appointed a co"enant for them at thattime and said, 7Beho#d, appoint for you 8ife and death,7 and HE ca##ed hea"en andearth as a witness against them

'or he knew that his time was short, %ut that hea"en and earth wi## stay fore"er

2 BARUCH 19:3

*hey, howe"er, sinned and trespassed after his death, a#though they knew that theyhad the *orah to repro"e them and that 8ight in which nothing cou#d err, apart from thespheres, which witnessed, and $E And 4udge e"erything that e/ists

You, howe"er, shou#d not think a%out this in your heart and you shou#d not %e aff#icted%ecause of the things which ha"e %een

2 BARUCH 19:5

'or now the end of times is at stake whether it %e property, happiness, or shame0 andnot its %eginning

2 BARUCH 19:6

'or when a man is happy in his youth and is treated %ad#y in his o#d age, he forgets a##happiness he possessed

2 BARUCH 19:7

And further, when a man is %ad#y treated in his youth %ut wi## %e happy in the end, he

does not remem%er his unhappiness anymore2 BARUCH 19:8

And further, #isten! E"en if e"eryone had %een happy continua##y since the day deathwas decreed against those who trespassed, %ut was destroyed in the end, e"erythingwou#d ha"e %een in "ain

2 BARUCH 20:1

*herefore, %eho#d, the days wi## come and the times wi## hasten, more than the former,and the periods wi## hasten more than those which are gone, and the years wi## passmore :uick#y than the present ones

*herefore, now took away 3ion to "isit the wor#d in its own time more speedi#y

2 BARUCH 20:3ow, howe"er, remem%er e"erything which commanded you and sea# it in the interiorof your mind

2 BARUCH 20:4

And then sha## show you $Y strong 4udgment and $Y une/p#ora%#e ways

2 BARUCH 20:5

*herefore, go away and sanctify yourse#f for se"en days and do not eat %read and donot drink water and do not speak to any%ody

And after this time come to this p#ace, and sha## re"ea# $YE8' to you, and sha##

speak to you true things, and sha## command you with regard to the course of times,for they wi## come and wi## not tarry

Prayer of Baru(#, !#e So& of $eria#

2 BARUCH 21:1

went from there and sat in the "a##ey of 2idron in a ca"e of the earth and sanctifiedmyse#f there and ate no %read, %ut was not hungry0 drank no water, %ut was notthirsty And stayed there unti# the se"enth day as YAHWEH had commanded me

2 BARUCH 21:2And after this came to the p#ace where HE had spoken with me

2 BARUCH 21:3

And it happened at sunset that my sou# recei"ed many thoughts, and %egan to speakin the presence of YAHWEH the $ighty +ne, and said!

2 BARUCH 21:4

+ hear me, Y+ who created the earth, the one who fi/ed the firmament %y the Wordand fastened the height of hea"en %y the .uach, the one who in the %eginning of thewor#d ca##ed that which did not yet e/ist and they o%eyed Y+

2 BARUCH 21:5

Y+ who ga"e commandments to the air with Y+. sign and ha"e seen the thingswhich are to come as we## as those which ha"e passed

2 BARUCH 21:6

Y+ who reign with great thoughts o"er the powers which stand %efore Y+, and whoru#es with indignation the count#ess kodesh %eings, who are f#ame and fire, whom Y+created from the %eginning, those who stand around Y+. throne

'or Y+ a#one (a##) this e/ists so that Y+ may create at once a## that Y+ want

2 BARUCH 21:8

Y+ are the one who causes the rain to fa## on earth with a specific num%er ofraindrops Y+ a#one know the end of times %efore it has arri"ed Hear my prayer

2 BARUCH 21:9

'or on#y Y+ can sustain those who e/ist, those who ha"e gone and those who wi##come, those who sin and those who ha"e pro"ed themse#"es to %e righteous, since Y+are the 8i"ing +ne, the nscruta%#e +ne

2 BARUCH 21:10

'or Y+ are the on#y 8i"ing +ne, the mmorta# +ne and the nscruta%#e +ne, and Y+know the num%er of men

2 BARUCH 21:11

And whi#e many ha"e sinned once, many others ha"e pro"ed themse#"es to %erighteous

2 BARUCH 21:12

Y+ know where Y+ ha"e preser"ed the end of those who ha"e sinned or thefu#fi##ment of those who ha"e pro"ed themse#"es to %e righteous

2 BARUCH 21:13

'or if on#y this #ife e/ists which e"eryone possesses here, nothing cou#d %e more %itterthan this

2 BARUCH 21:14

'or of what he#p is strength which changes into weakness, or food in a%undance whichchanges into famine, or %eauty which changes into ug#iness&

2 BARUCH 21:15

'or the nature of men is a#ways changea%#e

2 BARUCH 21:16

'or as we were once, we are no #onger, and as we are now, we sha## not remain in the

future

2 BARUCH 21:17

'or if an end of a## things had not %een prepared, their %eginning wou#d ha"e %eensense#ess

2 BARUCH 21:18

But #et me know a## that which comes from Y+, and regarding that which ask Y+,en#ighten me

2 BARUCH 21:19

How #ong wi## corruption remain, and unti# when wi## the time of morta#s %e happy, andunti# when wi## those who pass away %e po##uted %y the great wickedness in this wor#d&

2 BARUCH 21:20*herefore, command mercifu##y and confirm a## that Y+ ha"e said that Y+ wou#d doso that Y+. 1ower wi## %e recogni9ed %y those who %e#ie"e that Y+. #ong-sufferingmeans weakness

And now show it to them, those who do not know, %ut who ha"e seen that which has%efa##en us and our city, up to now, that it is in agreement with the #ong-suffering ofY+. 1ower, %ecause Y+ ca##ed us a %e#o"ed peop#e on account of Y+. A$E

2 BARUCH 21:22

'rom now, therefore, e"erything is in a state of dying

2 BARUCH 21:23

*herefore, repro"e the ma#ak of death, and #et Y+. sp#endor appear, and #et thegreatness of Y+. %eauty %e known, and #et the rea#m of death %e sea#ed so that itmay not recei"e the dead from this time, and #et the treasuries of the sou#s restorethose who are enc#osed in them

2 BARUCH 21:24

'or as many years ha"e passed as those which passed since the days of A%raham,Yitscha:, and Yaco% and a## those who were #ike them, who s#eep in the earth-those onwhose account Y+ ha"e said Y+ ha"e created the wor#d

2 BARUCH 21:25

And now, show Y+. sp#endor soon and do not postpone that which was promised %yY+

2 BARUCH 21:26And it happened that when had ended the words of this prayer, %ecame "ery weak

2 BARUCH 22

2 BARUCH 22:1

And afterward it happened that, %eho#d, the hea"en was opened, and saw andstrength was gi"en to me, and a =oice was heard from on high which said to me:

Baruch, Baruch, why are you distur%ed&

2 BARUCH 22:3

Who starts on a 4ourney and does not comp#ete it& +r who wi## %e comforted making asea "oyage un#ess he can reach a har%or&

2 BARUCH 22:4

+r he who promises to gi"e a present to some%ody0 is it not a theft, un#ess it is fu#fi##ed&

2 BARUCH 22:5

+r he who sows the earth0 does he not #ose e"erything un#ess he reaps its har"est in itsown time&

2 BARUCH 22:6

+r he who p#ants a "ineyard0 does the p#anter e/pect to recei"e fruit from it, un#ess itgrows unti# its appointed time&

2 BARUCH 22:7+r a woman who has concei"ed0 does she not sure#y ki## the chi#d when she %earsuntime#y&

+r he who %ui#ds a house, can it %e ca##ed a house, un#ess it is pro"ided with a roof andis finished& *e## this to $E first

2 BARUCH 23:1

And answered and said! o, YAHWEH, the o"ereign $aster

2 BARUCH 23:2And HE answered and said to me! Why, then, are you distur%ed a%out that which youdo not know, and why are you rest#ess a%out that of which you do not possess anyknow#edge&

2 BARUCH 23:3

'or as you ha"e not forgotten men who e/ist and who ha"e passed away, remem%erthose who wi## come

2 BARUCH 23:4

'or when Adam sinned and death was decreed against those who were to %e %orn, themu#titude of those who wou#d %e %orn was num%ered And for that num%er a p#ace wasprepared where the #i"ing ones might #i"e and where the dead might %e preser"ed

2 BARUCH 23:5

o creature wi## #i"e again un#ess the num%er that has %een appointed is comp#eted 'or$Y .uach creates the #i"ing, and the rea#m of death recei"es the dead

And further, it is gi"en to you to hear that which wi## come after these times

'or tru#y, $Y yashuah (sa#"ation) which comes has drawn near and is not as far away as%efore

2 BARUCH 24:1

'or %eho#d, the days are coming, and the scro##s wi## %e opened in which are written thesins of a## those who ha"e sinned, and moreo"er, a#so the treasuries in which are%rought together the righteousness of a## those who ha"e pro"en themse#"es to %erighteous

2 BARUCH 24:2

And YAHWEH the $ighty +ne heard him for He9ekiah was wise, and he paid attention tohis prayers for he was righteous

And the ninth %#ack waters you ha"e seen0 that is, the wickedness that e/isted in thedays of $anasseh, the son of He9ekiah

'or he acted "ery wicked#y, and ki##ed the righteous, and per"erted 4udgment, and shedinnocent %#ood, and "io#ent#y po##uted married women, and o"erturned a#tars, anda%o#ished their offerings, and dro"e away the kohenim #est they minister in thesanctuary

And he made a statue with fi"e faces! 'our of them #ooked into the direction of the fourwinds, and the fifth was on the top of the statue so as to cha##enge the 9ea# of YAHWEH
