OnJuly16,theChapter154colorguardwentthroughaonedaytrainingsessiontoreceiveofficialcertificationfortheirparticipationinfuneralservicesconductedfordeceasedU.S.Armypersonnel.Eighteenmembersofthecolorguardattendedthistraining,conductedbyMSgt.RectorandFirstSgt.TrejooftheU.S.ArmyReservegroupinRoseville.Topicscoveredincludedprovidingpallbearerassistance,riflesalute,bugleplaying,andflagfoldingprotocols.ThiscertificationallowsthecolorguardtoberecognizedforassistingtheArmypersonnelatveteranfunerals.

ItwasrecentlybroughtupthatourmemorialatFreedomHillwas,onceagain,inneedofsomeattentionandcleanup.Beforeacrewcouldevenbeputtogether,RonBankeroffsteppedupandtookcareofthecleanup.Manythanks,Ron,forjumpingtothetaskandmakingourmemoriallookgoodagain.

VeteransinSaultSte.Marie.The25footlongwallcontainingthenamesofthe2,654menandwomenwelostfromMichiganinVietnam.Inadditiontothememorial,wehavebookswithbiographiesonall2,654andpicturesofmorethan1,250ofthem.Itisourgoaltogetapictureofeveryonesopeoplecanseewhotheywere.ThedisplayalsoincludestheeightMedalofHonorrecipientsfromMichiganfromtheVietnamWarandabookwhichhasapictureandbiographyoneveryoneMichiganhaslostinIraqandAfghanistan.Chapter154alsocreatedaMedalfortheGlobalWarOnTerrorism.Wepresentvetsthismedalwhentheycometolookatourdisplay.ManytimesthefamilyofaKIAherovisitsourwallandwepresentthemwiththismedaltohonortheirhero.GivingoutthemedalisawayforChapter154toliveuptoourmotto`NeverAgainWillOneGenerationofVeteransAbandonAnother.`Chapter154ishonoredtobethekeepersoftheMichiganVietnamVeteransTravelingMemorial.ThememorialismannedbyCharlieandRuthBabcock,DaveandTerryLehrman,DennisandLynnKushner,PeggyRossmanandPatDanielsaswellasothermembersofChapter154.Thememorialcostsnothingtobringtoaneventotherthanallowingustoputupadonationboxandthatistohelpwithgasandsupplies.ItisChapter154shopethatbyremindingpeopleofthesacrificesmadebyourVietnamvets,itwillinturnremindthemofthesacrificesbeingmadetodaybyourmenandwomenofAmerica,andjustexactlywhatitisweowetheveteransofthiscountry.BecausetheonlythingweowethemisEVERYTHING!``(photosPage3)

Wow,wherehassummergone?It'salreadyAugustandwehavebeenextremelybusythissummer.WehadtheRideforFreedomandtheRidetotheVA.WehavebeentoSaultSte.Marie,WestBranch,GrandRapidsandSt.JoewiththememorialandweareoffinAugusttoGrandHaven,Claire,EscanabaandthenbackhomeforTheWallThatHealsinClintonTownshiponLaborDayweekend.Timeflieswhenyouarehavingfun.Idowanttothankallthevolunteerswhohavehelpedwithallthethingswehavegoing.Withoutyouthevolunteers,wewouldn'tbeabletodoallthethingswedo.So,thankssomuchtoeverybody!ThePOW/MIAVigilisonlyaboutsixweeksawayandIwouldaskthatyoutrytoputthatonyourcalendar.Thevigilisoneofthemostimportantthingswedo.Speakingofimportantthingswearenotthatfarfrom,OperationChristmasiscomingandwearestilllookingforaplacetostagetheboxesandthetoys.Ifyouthinkofaplace,pleaseletmeknow.Aspecialthankstothecolorguard.ThesefolksaredoingsomethingalmosteverydayandIforoneaminaweoftheirdedicationandcommitment.Thanksfolks,fordoingsuchagreatjobofrepresentingChapter154.Asalways,weneverhaveenoughvolunteers,soifyoucanpleaselendahand,yourhelpisalwaysappreciated.
