It’s that time of year again and there is a lot going on. Christmas is a time for giving and there’s no exception here at Body Fit. Starting out on December 5th, we co-host,
with Okami Kai, the Annual Knock Out Hunger Night at 6pm. Our goal is to raise enough food and cash donations to
fill at least three pick-up trucks with food. This is a fantastic night for the kids and our way of giving back to the community and Santa’s coming! Don’t miss it! Next, we give back to our members. 12 Days of Christmas is an event worth showing up for. Starting Tuesday the 13th we give away a gift every day through to the 24th. All you have to do is come in, work out and fill out a ballot. It’s a new draw every day and the gifts are worth a minimum or $100! Every ballot goes into the final draw…. A One Year Membership at Body Fit! There are more special offers but not enough space here to mention them…(check out page 3) Good luck and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and your family!

It’s that time of year! Time to take an honest assessment of where you are in life, and decide what you’d like to achieve this coming year. That said, it’s a sad fact that the majority of folks NEVER see those resolutions come to fruition. That’s why today, I’d like to share with you a few tips that will help you stick with your resolutions, no matter what—creating a NEW YOU in 2012! Look, the MAJOR reason people don’t follow through on their resolutions is FEAR. Change is scary. And committing to change is a scary endeavor, to be sure. But follow these tips and you should be able to nip fear in the bud and actually accomplish what you set out to achieve in 2012! 1) Be specific. You may have heard this a million times, but all too often people make nonspecific resolutions like “I want to get fit.” Instead, drill down to exactly what you want. So, try a resolution like, “By March 31st 2012, I will be 20 pounds lighter.” The specificity makes it more realistic and gives you a marker of success that lets you know you’ve ARRIVED at your goal. 2) Baby steps. The fact that you’re making a resolution implies that you’re trying to change something in your life that’s pretty big. You’ve been unhappy with it for some

time, which is why you’re resolving to change it. Therefore, most resolutions tend to be HUGE changes. Getting fit, getting out of debt, etc are all BIG goals. So in order to achieve them, you’re going to have to break them down into itty-bitty steps. It’s like the old adage, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” So break down your resolution into “mini” resolutions that will serve as stepping stones to the bigger goal you want to achieve (i.e. I will walk around the neighborhood for 20 min-utes every day. I will eat only 1,700 calories for the next 30 days, etc.) 3) Don't resolve to change what you can’t control. This is a biggie. But make sure your resolutions are things that are directly under your control. For example, a resolution to get a “raise at work” is something that is ultimately beyond your control. Instead, make the reso-lution to “start my own part-time online business to give MYSELF the raise I want.” 4) Share your resolutions. . Let others know what you’re planning. Doing so will give you a sense of accountability that will help push you—especially during those times where you don’t “feel” like doing the actions you KNOW will get you to your goals. Finally, don’t let fear get in the way of what you really want. Instead of dwelling in “what if’s” take ac-tion. Action, no matter how small, will help give you the momentum you need. And once you’ve started tak-ing action, you’ll have a better understanding of what you need to do to get to your final destination. So this year, set some resolutions… and follow through on them until you’ve achieved them!
5 Healthy Christmas Gift Ideas...
This Christmas, instead of just getting any “old” present, why not share the gift of health? Here are some healthy Christmas gift ideas
you can share with friends, family and loved ones: (source: Saint Louis University Medical Center)
1. Active video games. Research shows that active video game players burn twice as many calories as
the couch-potato video game players. Some suggestions include games like Dance Dance Revolution and the Nintendo Wii game, Wii Fit. 2. Food scale. One of the biggest obstacles to losing weight is keeping an ACCURATE account of calories eaten. So to help with that, you can gift a food scale. Digital is better, as they’re easier to use and more accurate. 3. Yoga classes. If you know someone who’s stressed out most of the time, this is the perfect gift. It will help the recipient improve flexibility and strength. Plus they’ll learn to use their breath to relax! 4. Pedometer. Do you know someone who is trying to be more active? If so, then a pedome-ter could be the perfect healthy gift. It’s nor-mally attached to a belt and counts each step a person takes. So whoever gets it, could make a goal to take 5,000—10,000 steps a day in order to help lose that Winter fat! 5. Sunglasses. Ultraviolet radiation is something you are exposed to year round… even in Winter when the sun isn’t out as much.
Sunglasses are important for protecting the eyes and preventing cataracts and even certain types of eye can-cer.

SPECIAL HEALTH BULLETIN:
Here Comes The Sun… (without the sunburn)
The Vitamin D-Lemma Vitamin D has been a hot topic in the news re-cently. Canadians aren’t getting enough vita-min D. In fact, recent research studies sug-
gests that up to 80% of people in Canada have insufficient levels of this essential nutrient, which offers a multitude of health benefits.
Why? Lack of sun exposure. Vitamin D is con-sidered the “sunshine vitamin” because it’s pro-duced as sunlight touches your skin. Our busy
workdays keep us indoors most of the time, preventing us from seeing much of the sun. And protective covering such as sunscreens
and clothing inhibit vitamin D synthesis. While modifying your diet is another way to up your
vitamin D intake, most people don’t get enough vitamin D from diet alone. Are you getting enough?
Did you know?
Vitamin D is present in certain fish and forti-fied foods such as cows milk, orange juice, and breakfast cereals. However, it is diffi-cult to get adequate amounts of vitamin D through diet alone.
Due to insufficient exposure to sunlight, peo-ple who live farther from the equator have a greater risk of having insufficient vitamin D levels than those who live near it.
Even weak sunscreens (SPF 8) can inhibit vitamin D production by up to 95%.
The older you are, the more vitamin D you need. With age, your body becomes less efficient in converting vitamin D to a form it can use,
People with darker skin are more suscepti-ble to having insufficient vitamin D levels.

Dear Clients and Friends,
The New Year is almost here and it’s time to get serious about what you want to accomplish.
Far too many people end up making the same resolutions… year after year! I don’t want that to
end up being you this year. That’s why I prepared that very special article on page one in this
month’s edition of Richly Rewarding Living. It will help you stick to your resolutions and make
sure you accomplish them and feel the pride that comes with sticking it through, even when
times get tough.
Make no mistake about it: achieving your resolutions in 2012 is going to require some mental
toughness. You’re going to have to tap into your inner strength. That means doing things you
know will get you to your goals, even when you don’t feel like doing them. In fact, I’ve come
across a GREAT quote that you should print out and look at every day:
“The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what we want most for what we
want at the moment.” - unknown
So this coming year, try to tap into your inner strength, and forgo what you want at the moment
for what you want in the long term! If you want that small piece of cake, let it go. Remember you
want to look your best. You feel tired but it’s like trying to start a part time business. Burn the
midnight oil and keep going!
Whatever it is, you can do it! Just make sure you realize there is some sacrifice to be made. Have
a happy and safe New Year!
