The official newsletter of the Reno Rodeo Association VOL. 1 NO. 4 APRIL 2015

Summary of Proposed Bylaws Revision 2015The Bylaws Committee spent countless hours re-writing the Association’s bylaws that have been presented for consideration by the membership. The draft is posted in the documents section of Reno Rodeo Ride, and is color coded to make it as clear as possible. It is not perfect, in spite of the hours spent attempting to make it so.

The Committee’s hope is that every member of the Reno Rodeo Association takes the time to review and fully understand the proposed bylaws. Robert’s Rules of Order allows motions to be made to adopt different provisions than are being presented in the document. When we vote on this proposed document at properly noticed meetings, those motions can be brought forth. If you are proposing an amendment please provide a written copy of your proposed language, to reduce the need to interpret the motion.

The reorganization of the document is the first, and probably most, significant change you will notice in the bylaws.

Due to space restrictions here is a brief overview of what areas have been revised or enhanced.

Article III defines every class of membership, explains eligibility

criteria duties for the various classes, the 2nd and 1st vice-presidents annual elections, emeritus status and the removal of a member from the association.

Article IV proposes a change in term limits of Board members to bring the bylaws into compliance with the Articles of Incorporation, tackles personnel issues regarding performance evaluations and the replacement of the General Manager upon a vacancy.

Article V deals with the Executive Committee’s membership, powers, and duties.

Article VI discusses the Officers of the Association duties and responsibilities, with a section on ascension in the case of death. Included is clarification of the audit requirements and annual governmental filings to the Secretary.

Article VII defines the types of meetings, quorum, required notices, who may call meetings, and which are mandatory.

Article VIII addresses the elections of the Association and defines the voting bloc of the Association.

Article IX lists the Committees necessary for the proper governance of the Association with proposed language to add 2 new committees.

Well, I’m going to say it one more time… the past month has gone by so quickly that before long, rodeo will be here!

Once again we had a great luncheon at the Peppermill. Our next luncheon is at the Atlantis on April 23, so please RSVP by April 17. We hope to see either the

same or more rodeo folks attend that luncheon.

We have a chairman’s meeting on April 2 at New West Distributing in Sparks and all chairmen and/or their co-chairs should plan to attend. Many committees have started meeting and making plans for the 2015 rodeo, including the Tickets Committee that reports sales are up significantly from last year, in part as a result significant new marketing strategies.

Committee Chair Francine Donshick and her crew are getting into high gear as we kick off the annual Reno Rodeo Reading Roundup on April 13th. The committee

will again visit twenty five at risk schools between April 13th and the first week in June.

I wish to take the time to welcome George Combs, our new General Manager, and his wife Shannon who come to us from the Caldwell Night Rodeo in Idaho. Another new face in the rodeo office is Denise Reams who is our new Administrative Assistant at the front desk. George and Denise both started on April 9th and are running as fast as they can to catch up. Stop by the office and give them a big “Reno Rodeo Welcome”!

Just a quick reminder to everyone… if you need any help from the office please, make sure you contact George, our new general manager. George is out and about making community contacts and attending committee meetings, so if you have a hard time reaching him, please contact the other office staff. They will pass on your questions, requests, or information to George so he can stay on top of situations and what is being done in the office.

The date can be found in this publication. If you are unable to make that date you will have another chance.

Mandatory Wrangler Meetings to be held May 6th or the 14th - 6 pm at New West Distributing located on I-80 East at McCarran.

The Executive Committee has approved the hiring of George Combs as the new general manager for the Reno Rodeo.

Combs has been involved in rodeo much of his life from competing in team roping and tie-down roping in his younger days to making a career for himself with the Caldwell Night Rodeo in Caldwell, Idaho, his home town. Combs has spent more than 20 years with the Caldwell Night Rodeo, gaining experience from serving as a part of the committee, as a member of the board of directors and as the rodeo’s business manager and marketing director.

This will be the first time Combs has ever moved away from Caldwell, Idaho in his 52 years. He grew up in Caldwell and raised his own children there, but Reno is not foreign territory to him as he has frequently attended the Reno Rodeo in the past.

Combs’ qualifications and experience landed him the job as the Reno Rodeo’s new general manager, a position that while vacant was being filled by the 2015 Reno Rodeo President, Larry Stacy. The Reno Rodeo Association is happy to welcome Combs as the new general manager and is looking forward to an excellent season that will begin in three short months.

Hey there Reno Rodeo!

I am so shocked that we are already to April. My year is galloping by and I’m so excited that my schedule is starting to get busy. This month I am off to Oakdale, Red Bluff, and Clovis rodeos in California.

I am so ready to go promote Reno Rodeo and our big little city Reno, Nevada. Reno Rodeo is right around the corner! I look forward to the next few months and getting to experience this amazing journey. Don’t forget to check out the Miss Reno Rodeo Facebook page for pictures of my travel! I also want to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

“RODEO IDOL” CONTEST FOR NATIONAL ANTHEM SINGERS

We are looking for five singers to perform the National Anthem during the 2015 Reno Rodeo. Singers will be selected by a “Rodeo Idol” contest with finalists performing live.

This past month, those interested submitted a video of themselves singing the National Anthem. A panel of Reno Rodeo judges will select a group of semi-finalists to be voted on by Reno Rodeo Facebook fans from April 1 through 15.

The top contestants will then be selected to take the stage at Gilley’s at the Nugget on April 22 for the final round of judging.

Besides the honor of singing before the Reno Rodeo, the winners will also receive tickets, sponsor room access and other goodies.

Advertising Space Available!Would you like to join the ranks of those who help sponsor (underwrite) the cost of our new BullSheet? Ad space is available for $200 per half page, and $125.00 for quarter page ads. Dear (First Name)

Our calendars are filling up with activities in preparation for June. Committee Chairs are reaching out and engaging with the MAP committee and as we help out in getting the many diverse messages out, along with the primary message of “come to the Reno Rodeo”. This is evidenced in this issue of BullSheet, now a full 12 pages. We will need support from our members in advertising to continue to meet our needs.

We are open to gentle criticisms, opinions and suggestions for improving the BullSheet. We are also looking for a writer or two who could help with a specific article from time to time, as we grow.

While it may seem that part of this committee spends most of its time sipping margaritas on the beaches of Mexico, the truth is we do keep an ear to the ground to make sure you know what’s happening at Reno Rodeo.

Watch for exciting news as we get closer to this year’s rodeo.

While we try to be as accurate a possible, misteaks happen. We print the materials we receive with the belief they are accurate. If you find errors or omissions, shoot us an email we will correct them in the next issue of the BullSheet.

Submitting articles – type in Arial or Times with no formatting, and send as an attachment.

Don’t forget to download our App.
