Congratulations to Tali Ma’a and Aya Abdelrahman and to the three students who qualified for the AWD cross country. Tamika Vreeswyk, Aayush Chand and Lachlan O’Brien.
P & C MEETING
Tuesday 24th June.
All Welcome
Debating
What a spectacular effort! Blacktown
West debated against Walters Rd on
Tuesday 27th May. All team members
performed well. Both teams had made a
huge effort with their rebuttals making it
very difficult for the adjudicator. In the
end, we narrowly lost 4-6 on rebuttals.
Our next debate will be in week 8 and the
topic: “Mobile phone are more
troublesome than they’re worth”. If you
have any ideas for this debate, please
talk to one of our team members:
Harsha, Daniel, Tara and Natalie.
Well done to all the students and their
coaches; Ms Abarquez and Mr Knight.
Parking
Please make sure that you do not park
in the “No parking zone” on Blue Hills
Crescent. Parents are blocking the
street and making it impossible for the
school bus to turn the corner. It is illegal
to park here and parents will be fined
when the police patrol the area.
School Photo Orders - Last Call
Closing date for order of photographs of School Leaders, SRC, Library Monitors and House Captains is Wednesday 4
th
June. Please see the front office for purchase/order at a cost of $8:00 each.
Kindergarten “Incursion”
All Kindergarten students have been invited to the Kindi Farm excursion on Monday 2
nd June.
Please make sure that the permission note and $11:00 has been handed to the class teacher.
Multi Lit If any parents are able to assist with
reading, please leave a message at the
front counter for Mrs Singh. The reading
support that Mrs Singh organises and
implements is a fantastic support for the
students involved. Thank you to all the
parents who already give up their time to
implement the program. If you have half
an hour, three times a week you can
really assist one student. Mrs Singh
trains the parents and organises the
work. We have recently lost one parent
and we are looking for more parents to
assist.
Stage 3 “Whitireia” - Bowman Hall
On Monday 26th May, Stage 3 walked
down to Bowman to enjoy a free perfor-
mance of the “Whitireia” Performing
Group” the sister school to Blacktown.

Too Sick For School?
As the cold weather hits, so do the winter bugs. It’s often hard to know whether to send your child to school or let them stay home to recover, especially when that means an adult cancelling work. For safety's sake, if your child seems unwell you should always keep them home from school and seek medical advice. School A to Z and the NSW Health have created an at-a-glance chart to help answer your questions about common childhood illness and how long sick kids need to miss school. Find it by typing this link into your web browser www.bit.ly/1hytn2E
Remember to send a letter to school on students’ return to school explaining their absence.
Update of Phone Numbers /Emergency Contacts
Please advise the front office of any changes to either your telephone numbers, address or emergency contacts.

th May, to hold your place
for the Stage 3 camp.
Winter PSSA
Please ensure you sign permission slips for the children
to participate and pay for the bus each week by
Thursday, to Mrs Maruta in the Library.
Overdue Book Pack
Thank you to those families that have promptly paid for
their book packs. However there are still families with
outstanding accounts that require urgent attention.
Students will be unable to go on future excursions/
camp or attend Gala Day if this account it not paid.
National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday 21st May, 200 Blacktown West students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 met in the
BER hall at 11:00 (recess time) to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime. Fifteen students also
brought along their toy elephants to join in the fun.
This year across Australia over 3,100 schools, libraries, childcare centres, preschools and communities
participated, with over 460,000 adults and children (plus one elephant) taking part.
BWPS students (and teachers) joined in singing “One grey elephant”, watched a reading of the story
“Too Many Elephants in this House” on the big screen and enjoyed some poems about elephants. All
students who participated received a book mark or colouring sheet to mark the occasion.
Congratulations to all the students who came along and a big thank you to the teachers who joined in
and helped out.
