DESIGN AND DRAUGHTING — VOCABULARY

1 Scope

This TechnicalReportis intendedto facilitatecommunicationin computer-aideddesign (CAD)technology. It presentsterms and definitionsof selectedconceptsrelevantto the fieldof data processingand CAD, and identifiesrelationshipsbetweenthe terms.

It deals with the main areasof the CAD techniquefor the representationoftechnicaldrawinginformation,These includethe principalprocessesand typesof equipmentused; the representation, organizationand presentationof data;the programmingand operationof computers;the input-outputdevicesand peri-pheralequipment;the termsdescribingparticularCAD applicationsand tools.

Terms such as CAD, CAE, CAM and CADD have not been definedowing to the fact thatthey have specificmeaningsin the differenttechnicaldisciplines. As a resultthese termsmay be interpretedas meaning“the use of computers”in the design, engineering, manufacturingand draughtingdisciplines, respectively.
