“Motivation is what gets youstarted…

Habit is what keeps you going” said JimRyun, an American Athlete. It got me thinking that many of us whohave set our goals and wishes at the beginning of the year may befinding that now the summer is upon us, and willpower is loweringas we think of slipping into Autumn, that those things we ferventlyset out to achieve in January may be sliding from our grasp.

And perhaps the reason is that we either weren’t committed todoing what we decided all those months ago, or we didn’t get intothe HABIT of making that thing happen. Indeed a decision we madelast year as a couple was to incorporate a fresh juice into our diet, atleast once daily. We enjoyed blending fresh kale from the garden, including thick broccoli stems which would ordinarily end up on thecompost, various fruit and other vegetables and chucking in copiousamounts of ginger which sent Sean's hayfever packing (anunexpected, but very welcome result!).

With the cleaning of the blenders and juicers, and the extra bit oforganisation needed to make these each day it would have beeneasy to stop eventually. But once it became a habit it’s tough tobreak. So even when we have days out we make sure that we getour juice and do you know, if you look out for them there are juicebars popping up everywhere. So we grabbed one recently in HydePark at a festival, in a little street in Ibiza on a holiday and even thekids join in now, despite what can seem avery dubious mix sometimes!

If there’s something you want to do, oryour resolve has slipped, get startedagain and we’ll hear no moreexcuses!

Much love until next monthCoralie and Sean x

Auto biographies

In 1982 Mitsubishi MotorsCorporation launched a brand newbreed of vehicle: a 4x4 which wastough enough to go where othersfeared to tread, yet enjoyed the sortof sophisticated specification morenormally associated with top endsaloons. More than thirty years laterthe Shogun is a living legend.

The 2015 Mitsubishi Shogun has abold new front end, distinguished bya deeper more integrated grille andchic LED daytime running lights. Thedesign changes for this yearrepresent a progressive evolution ofthe hard-hitting Japanese off-roader.

Naturally, the Mitsubishikeeps its go-anywhere, self-assured and powerfully builtpresence. This ischaracterised by its shortfront overhang, uprightwindscreen, strong highflanks, flared wheel-archesand rear-mounted sparewheel. These are all keyShogun styling cues thatunderline its mud-pluggingaptitude.

Indeed, standing next to theShogun makes you feel prettysmall. The vehicle isenormous and looks ratherintimidating to drive. Butonce you haul yourself intothe cabin, turn the key, select‘Drive’ from the automaticgearbox and get rolling, anyunease evaporates.

By no means is the brutealways a delight to drive onthe road though. Sure, it’seasy to point the Shogundown a motorway and staythere, but any cross winds doknock you about a bit. That’sno surprise as it’s a tallvehicle – and because of that

you can also forget tearing aroundbends on country roads, unless youlike lots of lean.

Instead, the new Mitsubishi Shogunis about muscle and ruggedness. Thetop of the range Long Wheel Base(LWB) SG4 model, on test here, pullslike a train with its 3.2-litre,194bhp,four-cylinder diesel engine.0-62mph arrives in 11.1 seconds andtop speed is 112mph. Moreimportantly it has low-ratio gearingand a differential lock to make sureyou’ve got the best chance ofgetting it out of even the mostchallenging of non-tarmacsituations.

The Mitsubishi Shogun is not only agiant of a 4x4, its cabin feels solidlyscrewed together and comescrammed with luxury features. Aswell as improved sound deadening,SG4 trim brings leather seats,Bluetooth, a tyre pressuremonitoring system and a five-speedautomatic gearbox.

Staying inside the cabin of theShogun, its multifunction display hasreams of information available. Thisincludes a barometer and analtitude gauge, indicating that this isa vehicle that has motoring abilitystretching way beyond a farmer’sfield.

The seats are comfortable andsupportive, and the large glass areaprovides first rate views of the roador rugged ground around you. Rearseat space is colossal, and loadcapacity seems immeasurably big.

A third row of seats can be poppedup too, turning the Shogun into aseven-seater. This is convenient ifyou’re taking a group of friends intothe rough or you’ve got a posse ofchildren you need to drop off atschool.

Away from the much commentedluxury soft-roaders, heavy-dutyworkhorses such as the Shogun havecarved out a unique niche in themarket where ability anddependability matter first andforemost.

Since a price decrease in July 2013Shogun sales have gone fromstrength to strength. With its newdesign and improved specification, the Mitsubishi Shogun now offerseven better value for money.

Money can be a key problem ofcommunication in relationships. Itbrings to mind the problem of oil andwater – they simply do not mix. However you can shake them up andthe oil will be held in suspension -which is a way of mixing the twotogether. Equally you can mixrelationships and money – you justneed a particular way to do it.

Six key points to remember:

1. Make decisions ahead of time. This may sound like a no brainer butfor many the opportunity to have‘that’ conversation passes and then

neither want to bring it up so it goesunmentioned until you hit a problem.Better to have the conversationbefore you get to that point.

2. Make the decision – joint orseparate money. This is a keyquestion and one to be discussedopenly and honestly. And openly andhonestly is the magic ingredient here.If one side has a strong opinion anddoes not listen to the other thenfurther down the road you will findresentment creeping in.

I have had both in my currentrelationship – in the beginning we

had joint money but when we startedto have our businesses in differentcountries we split it up. It was onlythen that I realised what a stresshaving joint money was. It wasn’tthat either of us were spendthrifts –we weren’t. But we did havedifferent priorities. By beingindividually responsible for ourmoney it made it easier.

This was not about both earningequally – we have and do subsidiseeach other. But once that money isin our individual accounts it is ourresponsibility how it is used.

Relationships and money. Oil and water?

Remarkable Relationships

Page 13: Big Voice Whiteley August 2015

13

3. Have a joint account for jointexpenses. This makes life so mucheasier – especially if you do not agreetotally with each other how money isused. By having a separate accountfor joint expenses that is paid into byboth parties, if both are earning, youboth know that the ‘survival’ level ofmoney is taken care of. The amountsyou pay in may be equal or may bepro rata depending on the level ofearnings. It is an agreement betweenyou both.

4. Always talk about any debt youwant to take on. Ensure that both ofyou are on the same page. Byagreeing all debt up front, and who isresponsible for paying it back, youavoid arguments. This is also true forcredit cards. Talk about how youwant to manage credit cards – do youwant them paid back at the end ofeach month or are you both ok withhaving a certain balance on yourcards? If you are ok with a balance

on your credit cards, how much? Atwhat monetary level does a purchaseneed to be discussed beforehand? This will help you build trust arounddebt.

5. What kind of savings do you wantto have? Firstly decide what savingyou want to be doing. Is it just longterm, as in pension, or do you want afun savings account for those lovelyholidays or new car? How are theseaccounts managed? If you haveseparate accounts are your savingsseparate too? Think about what youwant to do with that money ahead oftime.

6. Acknowledge that you may havedifferent ideas about money. Thatdoes not make either one of youwrong but it is important so that youcan work out the best way to worktogether. I have seen in these kindsof relationships that individualaccounts often work better. Have a

joint account for joint expenses, anagreement how you manage thedebt, the savings etc and then anagreement that with what’s left overit is up to the individual what they dowith it. The saver may want to savethe spender may want to spend –and that’s fine. Neither is right orwrong – it is up to the individual.

We all have different ways of lookingat things and money is a veryemotive issue for many. By talkingabout things up front and honestlyyou stop a lot of grief before it caneven get going. You can mix the oiland water of relationships andmoney and catalyst to do that iscommunication. Follow the keypoints above and you will be going along way to getting rid of one of themost contentious part ofrelationships And – you get to liveeven more happily together.

Does your PC seem slow? Maybe evennoisy? Well these could be a couple ofmany signs that suggest the hard drivecould be at the end of its life. If you’rerunning Windows 7 or higher werecommend changing the hard drive for asolid state drive (SSD).

This is a drive that uses flash memory as ameans of storing and accessing data, much like computer RAM but still behavesin the same way a Hard Drive does. Unlikeother storage devices such as the originalhard drive in your PC, an SSD has nomoving parts, which gives it advantagessuch as; accessing stored informationMUCH faster, produces no noise, oftenmuch more reliable, and consumes muchless power than the traditional hard drive

(HDD) found in computers.

This upgrade will significantly increase thespeed of your PC even from when it wasnew.

Assuming your PC is still working we canclone the original drive onto the SSD sothe computer will be exactly as it is now, just much faster (can deliver speeds of upto 100 times faster than a hard drive) andmore reliable. If you would like moreinformation on SSD drives or would like toupgrade your PC please call us and wearrange this for you.

Windows 10 will be here sooner than firstexpected. Microsoft have said it will beavailable on July 29th as a free upgrade for

Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. If youare running any of these two operatingsystems and haven’t already noticed, takea look in the bottom right and you shouldsee a windows symbol, click on this to‘reserve your free upgrade’.

However not all is good, Microsoft haveannounced that you will say goodbye toWindows 7 gadgets, Windows mediacenter and Hearts (card game). AlsoWindows 10 won’t be able to play DVD’sand so will require a separate softwarepackage, like VLC Player.

How to be Heat Responsible Paws for thought (sorry couldn't help myself) for our furry friends asthe weather (hopefully) starts to heat up and our thoughts turn today trips to the beach, woodland walks and summer prome-nades. What would it be like doing all these fun things in a fur coat;of course our furry friends just keep going, happy to please, theydon't know that heat kills.

Yes HEAT KILLS...I've seen it and it is avoidable. With thought andconsideration overheating can be prevented. I don't just mean 'don'tleave your dog in the car', that is the most obvious one (or is it?Because people still do!), how about walking the dog before the dayheats up, early morning and/or after the heat of the day has subsid-ed. Dogs love paddling pools especially in a shady part of the gar-den; and have you thought of making an iced treat? Simply fill aballoon with water and freeze...et voila, having first removed theballoon, dogs love them.

Of course we mustn't forget rabbits and guinea pigs, they cannotcool down as effectively as dogs so they need plenty of shade andwater to help them; and how about a frozen carrot to munch on?

On a less than flavoursome note whilst we are on the topic of rab-bits...FLY STRIKE! A rather unpleasant summer hazard that can beavoided by twice daily checking of bunny bottys; preventative prod-ucts are available from your vet, however if you find maggots veteri-nary attention is advisable.

Cats and horses with white noses and ear tips are prone to sunburnand yes you've guessed it, a sun block applied to these areas canhelp to minimise the risk of cancerous changes.

So with a little thought we can enjoy summer knowing our furrycompanions are enjoying theirs...any one for a carrot lolly?
