SmSmalal ltalkltalk“Instead of wondering where your next vacation is, maybe youshould set a life you don’t need to escape from” said Seth Godin.

I rather like Seth Godin’s musings on life and business as he thoughtfullyprovokes what you believed to be set in concrete to uncover ideas thatsuddenly ring true like church bells in your head.

This quote is one of my favourites and resonates well especially at thistime of the year. I sat watching my facebook feed this morning looking atseveral postings from families doing a countdown to their annual summerholiday. Some were going to Greece, some were going much furtherafield and of course they were all preceded with cries of “yippee, only 4days to go”.

With 2 businesses to run and 4 children to amuse over the next 6 weeks Ihad an initial pang of envy. The thought of a blissful, uninterruptedvacation, somewhere in the sun (remember that?!) seemed alluring andindulgent.

I allowed my thoughts to continue in this vein until I pulled myself back tomy reality with a rather pleasant pop. After all, who has created the lifethat I’m living? Who is responsible for the actions that I take and thechoices that I make each day? Well of course the answer to that liestotally between my ears so if I don’t like what I’m doing then I jolly wellneed to change things. And you know what? I rather love what I have. Ican choose to start work at 6am so that I can leap up every now and thento cut up magazines for the girls to turn into a craft project, or hang outthe next load of washing that keeps magically appearing for me. I canchoose to stop late afternoon to enjoy a cup of tea and colouring with thechildren.

And best of all we’re workinghard towards a lifestyle where Ivery much hope that instead ofuninterrupted weeks, we’ll havesome uninterrupted months offto enjoy the world.

Much love until next monthCoralie and Sean x

The saying ‘It’s not what youknow but who you know’ rings inmy ears as I have been broughtup with it and I can usually find a‘who’ for most enquiries thatcome in to our businesses. Wehave been discussing the fineline between whether the abilityto plan your wedding budgetdown to the last penny with acontingency to boot, or theadrenalin rush / anxietyassociated with scrabbling forthe last few pounds to pay thebalance off for your venue in thelast few weeks is the best courseof action when planning your big

day yourself. We both agreedthat knowing well in advancewhat you needed to spend yourmoney on, what you could havebespoke or off the shelf and theassociated costs of both areessential to not letting your‘bridezilla’ side get way out ofcontrol.

We could never cover a full listhere of every item you wouldneed to add to your weddingplan as we are all vastly differentand want to follow differingtraditions, or in our caseseccentricities, but good planning

and organisation is definitelykey. Come for a consultation, hear what we have to say, buthave your budget and timeframefirmly in mind when you do; thatway if you love a service orproduct you can at least workout what you will need to spendless on, like cutting out knivesand forks!

Charlie suggests:Using a dream board to collateyour ideal wedding day inpictures, what colours, theme orfeelings do you wish to invoke?

Sit down and realistically work outyour budget. Is it a grand figure ordo you need to work out what youcan afford per month for the nextyear or two?

Look at venues that can be suitedto your theme. Our venue decorservice can turn the look of mostvenues, using props, drapes andlighting so do keep an open mindwhen viewing, but be realistic - doyou want somewhere to dance forexample, or is it all about thefood?

Look for an event coordinator (likeus!) or separate suppliers (also likeus!) to organise your venue decor, entertainment, catering, finishingtouches, bridal wear, transport etc.

Please remember that a good priceis not always the cheapest option;ask potential suppliers forrecommendations, pictures of

their work (portfolio) and ensurethey are happy to supply theirinsurance details if you enter into acontract with them. It can be costlyto have to source another supplierat the last minute, or mortifying tonot get the service you expected.

If you have your heart set on thatsomething special, handmade orbespoke, factor this in whenlooking at theming yourcentrepieces and other decoroptions, to enhance and not workagainst your beautiful item.

Lastly, if you are unable to pay foryour services in a lump sumconsider making a paymentarrangement with your suppliersensuring that all of your littledetails are paid for well in advanceof the run up to your big day(when you are supposed to beglowing with anticipation and notwiping sweat from your brow!)

Having regular contact with yoursuppliers keeps you linked in tothem, they can advise on yourplanning and the inevitable listswell in advance, everyone gets tothe week before and wonderswhat they have forgotten a goodcoordinator or group of trustedsuppliers will have already checkedyour list twice!

Janet Mist has some great ideas:DIY weddings are massive, broughtabout by Pinterest gorgeousphotographs, Bridal Blogs, weddingmagazines and Bridal Boot Fairspopping up all over the country.

A lot of themes are inspired by allthings mix and match vintage anda stand-up to the modernthrowaway society: to save moneyand recycle.

Here are my tips to pull off a DIYwedding:

Page 16: Big Voice Locks Heath September 2015

16

Decide on a colour or theme topull it all together, like startingfrom a focal piece on an interiordesign scheme.

Put a Pinterest page together, orscrapbook with pictures withideas to base it from. Do yourhomework and be realistic, doyou really want the handmadelook? Are you able to create, afford and make the bits youneed? Is it really going to saveyou money? If the answer is nothen do your homework and seekbits needed within your budget,or adjust accordingly.

Set a budget for everything anddon’t waste money on impulsespends on ebay and car boots ifyou’re not going to use them -you will regret it later. Make listsfor each category and decide

what is the most important andspend accordingly.

Remember, a good weddingplanner can actually save youmoney so it’s always good to seekadvice first before you waste lotsof money thinking you can do itall yourself; trust me...you cant.At the end of the day it’s allabout having the best day withyour new husband and notstressing over the little details.Just be honest and set realisticgoals.

And enjoy every single minute x

Here in Locks Heath we are blessed with a‘shopping village’. It’s more than just a‘shopping centre’ – we are a community. This is reflected in the way our library, post office and other services for youth(Genesis Centre) and the elderly(Lockswood Centre) and other facilitiesand business are on site.

As you see from the photo, the churchesof the Western Wards of Fareham(WWCN) regularly meet to pray andworship here. At Christmas time we singcarols and offer free mince pies andmulled wine. Everybody is invited to joinin. Member churches include St John’s(Church Road), the Free Church(Huntsponds Road), Sonrise (AbshotCommunity Centre), Duncan Rd Church(Park Gate), Jesus is Lord Church (WarsashRoad), St Paul’s (Sarisbury) and StMargaret Mary (Park Gate), another URC

Church, an Evangelical church and 3 otherAnglican churches. See www.wwcn.info .We aim to serve our local communitytogether in several ways. Most importantis praying for our local community. Thiswe do every week in our churches , and inthe community twice monthly – contactthe ministers of the churches for details.

We also support Christian education forour local schools. This autumn Life Expo,a hands-on exhibition of installations, ishosted by St John’s Church from 9 – 14November. It is geared for Primary Year 5children, but all are welcome to come inthe evenings (6.15pm – 9.15pm). It helpsexplain what Jesus came to do and howHe is relevant today.Next time I will be handing over to otherleaders in St John’s to tell you about workamong children and youth locally. In themeantime, you might wonder how it is

that so many different churches co-exist.My answer, ‘Jesus is alive and He showsus how to love one another’.

Number 12 Bistro, located on the edge of the Hamble River, isbringing you a touch of theMediterranean with its new offering

of Turkish/Greek mezes.

Under new management from January this year, Number 12 hasundergone many exciting changes, the main addition being the openingof a new and vibrant bar, offering an extensive range of spirits, wines, beers and freshly made cocktails. The launch of a new evening menu, which offers a delicious selection of Turkish/Greek mezes, makesNumber 12 a great choice for any occasion.

The Bistro is owned and managed by a young couple who gave up theircareers and lives in Torbay to follow the dream. Engin has been acocktail bartender for over 13 years and has always been looking forthe right opportunity to run his own business whilst continuing to dowhat he loves. Sonia’s passion lies with cooking, making them theperfect team, all they needed then was the perfect premises!

After a time of not finding anything they loved closer to home, Soniadecided to follow her heart and not her head, and step away from hercareer as a chartered accountant so that together they could pursuethe dream of owning their own business. Number 12 was a chance findfor the couple as they did not know the area. They stayed in a nearbyhotel by chance and fell in love with the Hamble River and Swanwick,

they never thought thatjust two weeks laterNumber 12 would goon the market – thisdefinitely was one ofthose ‘it was meant tobe’ moments.
