PROPOSAL “The Bible is not one “book,” it is a “library” of sixty-six books that were written over a period of more than a 1,500 years by many different authors.”

Dr. Richard J. Krejcir

The Bible is always presented as one body of work, one big book. For new readers navigating the Bible can prove difficult. It is my proposal to take existing genres and design boxsets for each of them to accomidate the relevant texts. For example if one wanted to focus a study on History and the Bible, the History box would include, Judges, Joshua and 1&2 Kings as separate books.

My research has taken me to eight main genres. Within these, there are approximately 19 books. Each boxset and book cover would be individually designed with a running theme to tie them all together as a set. The work that would produced will appeal to a new audience, it will be far removed from the normal plain covers with Time New Roman typography.

It will also not fit into the childrens bracket but more for young professionals. However great care will be taken to not taint or take away from the words or indeed cause offence. However, the Bible holds great power and deserves powerful and impactful design. The work will accommodate illustration and design skills. A challenging project with an interesting subject matter.

“No other book, or indeed any piece of culture, seems to have influenced the English language as much as the King James Bible.

Its turns of phrase have permeated the everyday language of English speakers, whether or not they’ve ever opened a copy.” BBC
