Established April 2000 Meets Every Third Thursday at 7:30 p.m. except July and August

As I sit here January is all but over and February is fast approaching. We have five new men who are about to start their journey, as we all have. I hope everyone will make each of them feel welcome. This is very important so please plan on coming out on February 26th to greet our new brothers.

There are a couple things happening around the lodge.

Fellow Craft Club

I would like everyone to help get this off to a good start. Come on out and enjoy some fellowship. Everyone is invited to join in the fun. We are meeting the third Thursday of each month at 7:30pm in the Fellow Craft Room down stairs.

Annual Table Lodge

I have been in touch with the Worshipful Master of Mt Holly lodge about putting together the Annual Table Lodge for this year. We are working on the date at this point, but I will need everyone to help make this a success again this year. I will have more information for our February meeting.

This month we will have two rehearsals for the EA degree. Check your calendar for these dates. Rehearsals are very important. Brother Edward Marren will sit in the East for this degree. The degree will be on February 26, 2004. The lodge will open at 7:00pm. Please note the time change.

Lets keep up the hard work – keeping this lodge the GREAT lodge that it is. If anyone has any new ideas for fundraisers let me know. We are always looking for new ideas.

Brethren, I would like to start by thanking those brothers who had confidence in me by electing me to

Junior Warden. This new position brings bigger and newer responsibilities, which I am looking forward to. I will continue the commitment and dedication as I move through the chairs. Congratulations to our newest officers: John Macy, Larry Rodriguez, and Charles Geoghan. These brothers will make fine officers.

I always felt Lodge was more interesting when you take an active part, plus you get to meet all the new brothers.

To all the brothers that I have not met, please come to Lodge and support our Worshipful Master Bill Ewan. His meetings are guaranteed not to be boring. Your 2004 officers have activities and events planned for this year. There have been many improvements to our building in the last four years. Please bring yourself and your ideas as we plan the future of our Lodge. Fraternally, Edward Marren Junior Warden

The FC Club/BRMA met last month. The topic of discussion was the recent consolidation of the FC Club and the Association. It was decided that we would retain the named of the organization - Beverly-Riverside Masonic Association; Inc. The reason for keeping this name is that most of the Association’s documentation with the State is in the Association’s name. The Fellowcraft Club would be a club run by the Association with its own accounts and activities. The main goal of the FC Club will be to maintain the Fellowcraft Club Room. New By-Laws were discussed. A copy of the By-Laws will be available to all members at the February Meeting. The Clubroom was recently cleaned. Well, straightened is probably a better word as we still have much to do. Some of the items on the agenda for the room are: ∗ Removal of appendant bodies’ closets to new locations. ∗ Painting the walls and stripping and waxing the floors. ∗ Cleaning and refinishing the Shuffleboard. We also decided to run a Beef & Beverage along with the Riverside Chapter OES. This will take place near St. Patrick’s Day in March. We will need help with this fundraiser. For more info see the ad on page 6. Contact a Lodge officer for tickets to this event. Be sure to come out to our February meeting. We will be discussing future fundraising events.

"A Living Mason," author unknown His name is John. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it, jeans

and no shoes

This was literally his wardrobe for his entire four years of college. He was at the top of his class. Kind of esoteric and very, very bright. He became a Mason recently while attending college. After moving to his new town, he finds down the street from his new apartment is a well dressed, very conservative Lodge. One day John decides to go there after work. He walks in with shoes, jeans, his work shirt, and longer hair.

The Lodge has already started and so John starts looking for a seat. The Lodge is completely packed and he can't find a seat. By now the Brethren are really looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says anything. John gets closer and closer and closer to the East and, when he realizes there are no seats, he squats down right on the carpet. (Although perfectly acceptable behavior at a college fellowship, trust me, this had never happened in this Lodge before!) By now the Brethren are really uptight, and the tension in the air is thick.

About this time, the Secretary realizes that from way at the back of the Lodge, a Past Master is slowly making his way toward John. Now the Past Master is in his eighties, has silver-gray hair, and a three-piece suit. A good man, very elegant, very dignified, very courtly. He walks with a cane and, as he starts walking toward this boy, everyone is saying to themselves that you can't blame him for what he's going to do.

How can you expect a man of his age and of his background to understand some college kid in the Lodge? It takes a long time for the man to reach the boy. The Lodge is utterly silent except for the clicking of the man's cane. All eyes are focused on him. You can't even hear anyone breathing. The Secretary can't even continue with the "Minutes" until the Past Master does what he has to do. And now the Lodge watches as this elderly man drops his cane on the floor. With great difficulty, he lowers himself and sits down next to John and welcomes him so he won't be alone.

When the Secretary gains control, he say's, "What I'm about to say, you will never remember. What you have just seen, you will never forget. Be careful how you live. You may be the only Mason some people will ever meet."

Masonic Light William D. Ewan, Worshipful Master

February marks the birthday of our greatest President and Brother George Washington. The following anecdote was found on the Internet which credited THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, INCLUDING ALSO THE BEAUTIES OF AMERICAN HISTORY (1859) as its source:

Washington was never known to injure intentionally the feelings of any person, no

matter whether his friend or his most hostile enemy. In illustration of this trait, an incident may be related, referring to the surrender at Yorktown. While the continental troops were preparing to receive the British who were to march forth from the garrison, and deliver up their arms. Washington was heard to remark to the troops --"My brave fellows let no sensation of satisfaction for the triumph you have gained, induce you to insult your fallen enemy --let no shouting, no clamorous hazzaing increase their mortification. It is sufficient satisfaction to us, that we witness their humiliation. Posterity will huzza for us."
